Daisy Arujo "Mystic Pizza" (1988)
Julia is Daisy Arujo, Pizza Waitress in Mystic, Connecticut. Daisy is a wild, easy going character and is looking for Mr.Right, who has style, money and can allow her to enjoy the "good life". In her first leading role, Julia made her character dominate the film and it was clearly a sign that a bright future was to follow.
Shelby "Steel Magnolias" (1989)
Julia plays Shelby Eatenton Latcherie, a young married woman who has diabetes, who has been adviced by her doctor not to have children, but Shelby decides to have a child anyway. Shelby is a strong character, and it´s brought to life on the screen so well by Julia in a superb performance. This powerful earned Julia her first Golden Globe Award and also a Oscar nomination.
Vivian Ward "Pretty Woman" (1990)
Julia Roberts lights up the screen at this most irresistible character. Vivian Ward is a street hooker who falls in love with Edward, a successful businessman. Julia plays this character very well and her performences soon elevates her to international stardom. She won a Golden Globe Award and received an Oscar nomination in 1991 for this most delightful romantic comedy.
Rachel Manus "Flatliners" (1990)
Rachel Manus is one of several medical students who takes part in a reckless experiment to see if there is a life after death. She is obsessed by the death of her father, and wants to learn more about his life after death. This was one of Julia's most controversial characters.
Laura/Sarah "Sleeping with the Enemy" (1991)
Laura is a young housewife who fakes her drowning in a boating accident in order to escape from her abusive and wife-beating husband. Laura assumes a new life and changes her name to Sarah and manages to find her own happiness. This character allows Julia to express her real and emotional acting abilities from the beginning through the last scene of the movie.
Hilary O'Neil "Dying Young" (1991)
Hilary O'Neil is hired to take care of a young man who has cancer and is condemned to death. She dares to love him even knowing he is going to die. Hilary becomes one of Julia's most romantic and memorable character.
Tinkerbell "Hook" (1991)
Tinkerbell is a friend of Peter Banning alias Peter Pan, who takes Peter to "Neverland" to help him remember how to be Peter Pan and to rescue his children from Captain Hook. This is one of the most dreamy, tiny and funny character that ever played by Julia.
Julia Roberts "The Player" (1992)
Julia plays herself in this satire about the movie business of Hollywood. She appears at the end of the movie in a cameo role.
Darby Shaw "The Pelican Brief" (1993)
Julia is Darby Shaw, a law student who turns her suspicions about the deaths of two U.S. Supreme Court Justices into a speculative brief that sends shock waves through the highest levels of government. Based on the character created by John Grisham, Julia once again shows her best acting achievement.
Sabrina Peterson "I love Trouble" (1994)
Julia sets the screen on fire in this fast-paced, romantic thriller. She is Sabrina Peterson, a newspaper reporter who competes with a senior reporter with a passion for news and penchant for trouble over a mysterious train derailment.
Grace Bichon "Something to Talk About" (1995)
Grace Bichon is a contemporary Southern wife and mother, who works on her family's horse-breeding farm. But when she finds that her husband Eddie has been unfaithful to her, she suddenly steps back and examines her hustle-bustle life from a new perspective. Even surrounded by veteran actors, Julia shows her acting ability and her charm in this sweet character.
Kitty Kiernan "Michael Collins" (1996)
Julia plays a real character - Kitty Kiernan, Michael Collins' girlfriend. Michael Collins was one of the leaders of the IRA revolution against British rule and founded the free republic of Ireland in 1921.
Mary Reilly "Mary Reilly" (1996)
Mary Reilly is one of Dr.Jekyll's servants who is loved by him. The doctor has a strange life and Mary begins to spy on her boss and learns the darkside of his alter-personality. Mary Reilly is the strangest character Julia has played to date. With a different style and look, Julia changes her perfomance into serious high-level acting.
Julianne Potter "My Best Friend Wedding" (1997)
Julia sparkles as commitment-shy Jules Potter who reluctantly realizes she is in love with her best friend Michael, just a few days before his wedding ceremony. Julia returns to a romantic role, and lights up the screen with her comic acting and fabulous smile. For this excellent role, she earned a Golden Globe nomination again.
Alice Sutton "Conspiracy Theory" (1997)
Julia is Alice Sutton, a U.S. attorney who is obsessed by Jerry Fletcher, a paranoid cab driver. Jerry keeps coming up with his conspiracy theories. Simply good character and very stylish Alice.
Isabel Kelly "Stepmom" (1998)
Isabel Kelly is a career minded woman (professional photographer), who tries to become a good stepmother for her boyfriend´s children, who´s real mother is dying. Isabel is Julia's remarkable character, she proves again her ability to perform in dramatic movies.
Anna Scott "Notting Hill" (1999)
Julia plays the most famous movie star in the world, and she walks into William Thacker´s small travel book store and just falls in love with him. Julia shows her real life profession in this most excellent romantic comedy. She gives her best perfomance, as usual.
Maggie Carpenter "Runaway Bride" (1999)
Maggie is a young woman who lives in a small town. She falls repeatedly in love, but always runs from the wedding ceremony before saying "I do". She just has a problem with the commitment of marriage. This box-office hit reunites Julia with Richard Gere and just like in "Pretty Woman", she shows her funny, romantic and lovely acting ability.
