In January, 2002 Elaine paid £200.00 for a complete wreck of a scooter, with no floor - a daunting project for most people. Luckily for Elaine, husband Jem Booth was more than capable of taking on such a task. A week was spent fabricating a new floor, working to a tight schedule to get the scooter ready for it's debut a the Isle of Wight Rally. Following a fair few days and nights work and despite a last minute panic, when the paint sprayer let them down, the scooter was finished with literally just hours to spare before the ferry departure.
The Cento is painted in "Reflex", a colour shifting finish, dependant on the light and the angle it's viewed from. The engine is standard with a megaphone exhaust and the whole thing is topped off with some very nice and undoubtedly very rare embellishers and accessories. |

My scooter and Tony
One day, I was awakened by my husband at 6.00am, he had an idea for a custom Lambretta scooter. This would be based on a Tony Hadley theme but in the post Spandau Ballet days. Great Idea I think maybe I could get him to sign it and then I could actually meet him in person. Husband now regrets opening his mouth, as he would have to build it for me.
I actually owned a Lambretta myself but it was a real wreck and hubby said it would take a major effort to get this done as the model of Lambretta I had was rare and had never been a custom scooter before. Contacted the fan club and got Tonys ok for the project.
Many visits to auto jumbles and part fairs obtained most of the parts required. The bodywork needed a lot of preparation and priming to get it in to shape. The final colour coat was applied by Vince as a labour of love, cheers mate. The seat is a custom one off made between hubby and Duncan at Chopikins leather of Gosport. It is based on the idea of leather trousers and looks real great. Tony actually commented on this on the great day.
As I had never ever driven a scooter before, hubby for my birthday sent me to get a whole days training on a scooter as a surprise present. All I now needed was a date for the signing and low and behold Tony V Peter was coming to the Portsmouth guildhall on 29-2-2004. So I purchased some tickets and contacted his manager.
All arranged ok but the scooter was not really ready even on the night before, as a divorce was in the air !!!. Hubby got his finger out and it was all done 45mins before the meeting with Tony down in Portsmouth. Met Tony and he was smashing such a nice down to earth bloke and he signed the legshields and posed for some photos. I also met Peter and he was also a nice bloke, OH to party with them both. The show was great and very entertaining.
The Scooter is a 1968 Lambretta J125 Starstream and will be doing some custom shows this year.
