-Pallet Town-
You start out in your room. Nab the Potion out of your PC in your room and head downstairs. Go north in the grass and Prof. Oak will stop you and take you to his lab. In yellow he catches in Pikachu and then takes you to his lab. In his lab, he gives you this big long speech and you get to get your first Pokemon. Finally! Your rival always chooses the one you are weak against. You battle him and then head north to route one.
-Route One-
Here you can grab a free potion from the first guy you see. Then go north to Viridian city. You can fight(but not catch yet) Pidgey and Rattata. You then arrive in Viridian City.
-Viridian City-
First head towards the PokeCenter to heal and then go to the mart. Take the professor his package back in pallot town where you get your PokeDex. Then go back to Viridean and nab some PokeBalls. I suggest going east to fight your rival. (Note:Yellow players if you lost to him the first time don't go against him again because he can have an easy-to-fry Vaporeon later in the game. 1 win=Flareon and 2 wins=Jolteon.) The gym here isn't open yet so don't bother and just head towards your rival described above.
-Route 22-
Here you should catch a rattata, a spearow, mankey(yellow only), and both nidorans. You can also fight your rival. In Red/Blue he has L9 Pidgey and L8 whatever he started out with. In yellow he has L9 Spearow and L8 Eevee. Then head back to Viridian City and North to route two.
-Route 2-
Route 2 is really small. Red players should pick up Weedle and Pidgey, Blue Pidgey and Caterpie, and Yellow Pidgey. Go into that little house and exit out the other side. You are now in Viridian Forest.
-Viridian Forest-
There are several trainers to fight here and I suggest you fight them all. They give you cash and easy experiance. Red players should get the rare Caterpie and Pikachu, Blue players should pick up the rare Weedle and Pikachu, and Yellow should get Caterpie and the optional Pidgeotto(don't try too hard, they only appear 2% of the time). When you expit, you find yourself in a little route. Go north and you are in Pewter City!!
-Pewter City-
Here you can get your first gym badge, against Brock, the rock-type gym leader. He is harder to beat in yellow, but if your Butterfree(from Caterpie)is L10, you shouldn't have a prob beating him (Butterfree learns confusion @ L12 in Red/Blue). Just but a bunch of potions and make sure your Pokemon are at least L11 before you go against him. He has in Yellow: L10 Geodude and a L12 Onix & in Red/Blue he has: L12 Geodude and L14 Onix. Only after you beat him can you head east out of the city to Route 3.
-Route 3-
In route 3 there are 8 PKMN trainers to beat, so I suggest you beat them for the experieance 'cause you'll be needing it in Mt.Moon, your next challenge. Here all three versions can pick up a $500 Magikarp in the PokeCenter, even though once you get the old rod (Vermillion City) you'll be able to pick one up anywhere. Red/Blue should get Jigglypuff and Yellow should get Sandshrew. Head east then north to heal at the PokeCenter before you enter your first cave, Mt. Moon.
-Mt. Moon-
Here is a good place to get Pokemon and exp. You will need it for Misty. All players should catch very easy-to-find Zubat, a Geodude, a Paras, and (U can't get one anywhere else!!) Clefairy. In the end, after the guy you have to fight, U get a fossil. Dome is Kabuto and Helix is Omanyte. Yellow players should save before going against their extra challeng(??), Jessie and James of TR. As soon as you leave the cave, U can't come back, but you end up in Route 4.
-Route 4-
In this tiny little route you should head west. Here you should also get: Red-Ekans, Blue-Sandshrew, and Yellow-Nothing. Go west and you are in Cerulean City!!
-Cerulean City-
You have to beat Misty for the CascadeBadge and your rival for the sake of continuing the game. I suggest going against your rival first and Route 24 & 25 for exp for your PKMN. Your PKMN should be at least L18 if you want to beat her on your first try. She has a L18 Staryu and L21 Starmie that are hard to get. Also, in Red/Blue you can trade your easy to fish up (in Celadon City with the Super Rod) Poliwhirl for Jynx. In yellow if you can prove to the girl in the same house (next to the PokeCenter, only without Mr. Poliwhirl) that you have taken good care of your Pikachu, you can get Bulbasaur. This may take a while. After your PKMN are L16, go and fry your rival north at the beginning of route 24.
-Routes 24 & 25-
Here you beat your rival, who's Pokemon are Blue/Red- L18 Pidgeotto, L15 Abra, L15 Rattata, and L17 whatever he started out with. In yellow he has: L18 Spearow, L15 Sandshrew, L15 Rattata, and L17 Eevee. After you beat him, you have to beat 6 trainers in order to get to the grass where you should catch Yellow: Oddish, Bellsprout, Venonat, and talk to a little guy by TM19 and he will give you his Charmander. Blue: Bellsprout, Abra. Red: Oddish, Abra. When you get them, head east, but DO NOT leave the route. Instead, when you are as far west as you can go, enter the house and help out Bill and thehe will give you a ticket for the S.S. Anne (after you talk to him after he comes out of the machine). Then go back to Cerulean City and head through that house that was blocked off before by the little person. Beat the rocket and head south and you will be on route 5.
-Route 5-
Here you head south and if you want you can dump one of your PKMN off in the daycare center here. Red players should get Mankey, Blue Meowth, and Yellow Jigglypuff and Abra. Go in the LITTLE house near the big one and go down the ladder. Take the underground tunnel south and you will end up in another house. Go out of the house and you will be in Route 6.
-Route 6-
In this little route you have to go south and beat the two trainers that are standing there to gain addmitance to Vermillion city. Nothing to get here, so just go on to Vermillion City.
-Vermillion City-
Lots to do here. Go to the PokeCenter, and then go to the house that is to the left of the PokeCenter. Here you can get the Old Rod (a.k.a the Magikarp Stick) that only catches Magikarp in every single body of water. You also can (and should) get the Bike Voucher from the dude in the house with a sign next to it. He is at the front of the room. Red/Blue players can also trade their very common Spearows for a very rare Farfetch'd in the house to the right of Mr. BikeVoucher. You can't get into the gym here, but you can if you do the S.S. Anne first (Yellow players can't get their Squrtles yet, either until they beat Lt. Surge). So head east to the dock and enter the S.S. Anne. When you do get into his gym, though, to get to him you have to walk up to the garbage cans and push "A". When you find one switch, save and look up, down, left or right to open the first lock. In yellow, he has a L28 Raichu and in R/B he has a L21 Voltorb, a L18 Pikachu, and a L24 Raichu. In yellow, your PKMN should be at least L23 or higher before him, and in R/B, they should be L21 or higher before you fight him. See why you might want to fight everyone on the S.S. Anne BEFORE you go against him??
