(MacNamara's Band)
1. When
(D)we were born we got a name, that ve- ry day, I bet, a
(G)first and last and (D)middle too, its (E7)some- thing we all (A7)get. And
(D)when they brought us to the church , we got another too. When
(G)we were baptized, (D)"Child of God," was (E7)placed on (A7)me and (D)you.
C. We have a
(D)name, oh what a (A7)name, no other name is quite the (D)same. We have a
(D)name, oh what a (G)name, (B dim optional) there
(D)is no other name quite like the (A7)ho- ly one we (D)claim.
2. Now
that we carry His great name it's so important we, in
how we live and what we say, bear that name hon'rably. If
we are evil, wicked, bad, and lie, cheat, steal and cuss, the
name of God we carry is dis- hon- ored, then, by us.
Chorus
3. It
is important, we can see, for those who bear His name to
bear it proudly, never doing what would bring it shame. God's
name is holy on its own and that we can't undo, but
in this prayer we ask God's help to treat it holy too.
Chorus
