WHAT IS THE CATECHISM FOR?
(This Is the Way We Wash Our Clothes)
1. (D)What is the Ca-te-chi-sm for, to
(A7)take up time and make us sore, to
(D)give us sor-row toil and tears and
(A7)make us work for (D)(two)(A7) long (D)years?
(insert the correct number)
2. No that is not the rea-son why it was
writ-ten by that Luth-er guy. But
it was done so he could show to
Christ-ians things that they should know.
3. A
Ca-te-chi-sm is a set of
ques-tions that some stud-ents get with
ans-wers giv-en, one for each, the
Christ-ian faith and life to teach.
4. This is the way we learn to see the
love of God for you and me and
learn in what we do and say to
live for Him from day to day.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
(May be sung to the tune of "The Man on the Flying Trapeze")
1. (G)What does this mean? (C)What does this (A7)mean?
(D7)Ov-er and ov-er this (G)ques-tion (C)is (G)seen.
(G)Why does he ask it a-(C) gain and a-(A7)gain, us-ing
(D7)up all the ink in his (G)pen?
2. What does this mean? What does this mean?
When we find out, the true pur-pose is seen. We
can't always tell by just reading through what it's
say-ing to me and to you.
B. It -
(Em)is-n't just the (B7)print-ed word we-
(Em)try so hard to (B7)learn. The -
(Em)un-der-ly-ing (B7)spi-rit is our
(Em)num-ber one con-(D7)cern. Oh,
3. What does this mean? Tell me what does this mean?
He keeps on ask-ing just like a ma-chine.
But if we want to get the whole scene we
have to ask,"What does this mean?"

THE LORD'S PRAYER
(When Johnny Comes Marching Home)
1. How
(Em)of- ten have we heard it said that (G)we're to pray? It's
(Em)some- thing that we should be doing (G)ev- 'ry (B7)day. But
(Em)what if we are (B7)not too sure the (Em)way that it is (B7)done? We are
)
(Em) stopped (D)be-(C)fore (B7)we (Em)ev- en (D)have (Em)begun.
2. There
are some Bible verses that can teach us how and
if we do not know them we should learn them now. Not
on- ly do they help us our by teach- ing us the way, they
ev- en show the words that we can say.
3. That
prayer, a real familiar one, is from our Lord. He
taught it to His followers when they implored. (A)
prayer that touches all of life with just the perfect mix. Verses
nine thru thirteen, Mat- thew, chapter six.
4. We
use it as a model showing what to ask and
when we do our praying it can guide task, or
else we use it word for word right off the printed page, To
geth- er with the saints of every age.
5. Of
course we must remember when we say this prayer the
mean- ing goes much deeper than the word- ing there and
con- centrate on what we say in each and every part, so we
say it from the bot- tom of our heart.
6. And
so we pray with confidence that we'll be heard al-
though we might not pray with fancy flow- ing word. When
we approach the throne of grace we have no need to fear, 'cause
Je- sus taught us we know that God will hear.

THE INTRODUCTION (Our Father)
(She'll be coming round the Mountain)
1. Well some-
(D)times we might get nervous when we pray. And we
(D)think that God won't hear our prayer. No (A7)way! But He
(D)don't think we're a bother, Cause, re-
(G)member, he's our Father. And He'll
(D)listen to each (A7)word we have to (D)say.
2. So when-
ever we may go to say a prayer, like a
kind and loving father, God is there. There's no
prayer so big, you bet,
That he'd have to break a sweat. And there's
nothing that's so small he doesn't care.
3. He will
hear our prayers and answer every one Like a
Father for a daughter or a son And with-
in that at answer He Will do
more abundantly Than we
either ask or think he might have done.

THE FIRST PETITION
(MacNamara's Band)
1. When
(D)we were born we got a name, that ve- ry day, I bet, a
(G)first and last and (D)middle too, its (E7)some- thing we all (A7)get. And
(D)when they brought us to the church , we got another too. When
(G)we were baptized, (D)"Child of God," was (E7)placed on (A7)me and (D)you.
C. We have a
(D)name, oh what a (A7)name, no other name is quite the (D)same. We have a
(D)name, oh what a (G)name, (B dim optional) there
(D)is no other name quite like the (A7)ho- ly one we (D)claim.
2. Now
that we carry His great name it's so important we, in
how we live and what we say, bear that name hon'rably. If
we are evil, wicked, bad, and lie, cheat, steal and cuss, the
name of God we carry is dis- hon- ored, then, by us.
Chorus
3. It
is important, we can see, for those who bear His name to
bear it proudly, never doing what would bring it shame. God's
name is holy on its own and that we can't undo, but
in this prayer we ask God's help to treat it holy too.
Chorus

THE SECOND PETITION
(My Grandfathers Clock, verse)
1. A
(D)king- dom's a (A7)place where a (D)king's on the (G)throne, that is
(D)some -thing which (A7)clearly is (D)seen, though we
(D)might wonder (A7)why that is (D)still how it's (G)known when the
(D)one on the (A7)throne is a (D)queen. Even
(D)stran- ger than that is the (G)fact that we don't (D)need to in-
(D)clude, forest, mountain or (A7)plains. 'Cause it's
(D)not, (A7)dirt, (D)that he is going to (G)lead. Over
(D)peo- (A7)ple he (D)reigns.
2. With the
rule of our Lord that is just what we find. It is
not based on geogra- phy. But his
king- dom is found in the hearts and minds of the
ones he has bought and made free. For the
king- dom is found in the peo- ple where the Word has been
sown and is heard and o- beyed. When we
grow, in, all of the things we've heard, we have
what we prayed.
3. And
so when we pray that the king- dom would come, though it
comes whether we pray or not, then we
ask "Through Your Spirit, would you give us some, help to
keep your commands as we ought." And not
just for ourselves but we al- so wish to pray for the
king- dom to claim every- one. 'Til the
day our Lord comes again and then heaven
is be- gun.

THE THIRD PETITION
(My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean)
1. We
(G)pray that your (C)name would be (G)hal- lowed. (one, two) We
(G)pray that your (A7)king- dom would (D7)come. (one, two) And
(G)then we add (C)one more pe- (G)ti- tion. (one, two) We
(A7)pray that your (D7)will would be (G)done. (one, two, three)
C. (G)Your will (C)be (A7)done. Lord (D7)help us to do it to- (G)day, (D7)to- (G)day.
(G)Your will (C)be (A7)done. This (D7)is the pe- ti- tion we (G)pray. (one, two)
2. This
prayer is op- posed by the dev- il. (one, two) He
wants us to fall on our face. (one, two) He'll
use any trick or temp- ta- tion (one, two) to
knock us right out of the race. (one, two, three)
Chorus
3. So
if we be- lieve in our Sav- ior, (one, two) and
treat Him like He is our boss, (one, two) there's
one thing we fig- ure for cer- tain. (one, two) We
will have to car- ry a cross. (one, two, three)
Chorus
4. And
so we ask Je- sus to help us (one, two) that
on- ly his will would be done, (one, two) that
though we may stum- ble and slip we (one, two)will
fin- ish the course that we run. (one, two, three)
Chorus
5. So
we pray your name would be hal- lowed (one, two) and
we pray your king- dom would come, (one, two) for
if these two things are ac- comp- lished (one, two) then
God's will will tru- ly be done.
Chorus

THE FOURTH PETITION
(for He's A Jolly Good Fellow or The Bear Went Over the Mountain)
1. God pro-
(C)vides the daily (F)bread-(C)- for (G7)ev- 'ryone on (D)earth, for
(C)evil and for (F)good alike re- (C)gard- less (G7)of our (D)worth. Re-
(C)gard- less (F)of our (C)worth, re- gard- less (F)of our (G7)worth.
He gives
(C)if we pray or (F)not-(C)- but (G7)still we pray, that (D)we might
(C)know it comes from (F)God and so re- (C)ceive it (G7)thankful-(D)ly.
2. What is
meant by daily bread? I think that we should know. It
means a whole lot more than just those things made out of dough. Those
things made out of dough, those things made out of dough.
It in-
cludes our daily food but more than this I think. It's
every- thing required to en- joy our food and drink.
3. For
in- stance, if we were to sit down to a meal and
ev- 'ryone was mad at us, I won- der how we'd feel? I
won- der how we'd feel? I won- der how we'd feel?
I
think we'd rather eat with har- mony instead, And
so we say that this is too a part of daily bread.
4. A-
noth- er thing we ask for in dai- ly bread is peace for
if there's conflict how could we en- joy our fatted geese? En-
joy our fatted geese, en- joy our fatted geese?
So we
pray that God would guide our rul- ers in His ways in
or- der that we might enjoy His peace throughout our days.
5. But
most of all we pray and ask God to restrain the
Dev- il from his purpose which we know is very plain. We
know is very plain, we know is very plain,
To
try to take away the good things that we need. But,
since we prayed, we know his purpose simp- ly can't succeed.

THE FIFTH PETITION
(I've Been Workin on the Railroad)
1. (D)We believe the word God gave us,
(G)and we do to His (D)will,
(D)but we often don't be- have us. His com-
(E7)mands we don't ful- (A7)fil.
(A7)Sa- tan tempts us and we (D)lis- ten.
(G)When provoked we often (F#7)bite.
(G)And though sin cannot en- (D)slave us, we
(D)some times don't (A7)do (D)right.
2. (D)So we need to ask, (G)"Fath- er, please forgive
(A7)all the many debts we (D)owe, (A7)owe (D)owe,
(D)So for all the sins (G)that make us ashamed
(A7)Your forgiveness we can (D)know."
3. (D)Now we know in Christ we are for- giv- en.
(D)You forgive before we even (A7)pray.
(D)But, so that we know we are for- (G)giv- en,
(D)we should ask You (A7)any- (D)way.
4. (D)And we heart- ily forgive
(D)those who happen to wrong (A7)me and you.
(D)When we (G)heart- ily forgive
(D)we know God for-(A7)gives us (D)too.

THE SIXTH PETITION
(La Cucaracha)
1. Lord do not
(D)lead us into temp- ta- tion. (rest) What is this for which we (A7)pray? Because we
(A7)know that the Lord would nev- er (rest) cause someone to go a- (D)stray. We are a-
(D)ware too as long as we live (rest) that temptations will not (A7)quit. And so there
(A7)must be a deeper mean- ing (rest) if we'll only look for (D)it.
2. In this pe-
ti- tion, what we are ask- ing (rest) is that God would give us aid that when temp-
ta- tions we have to face our (rest) will to triumph doesn't fade, That we would
not be misled or tempt- ed (rest) to despair and unbe- lief but in the
strength that the Savior gives us (rest) from temptation find re- lief.
3. What are the
sour- ces of our temp- ta- tion? (rest) Usually we think of three. First is the
dev- il. And he as- sults us (rest) conscience-wise and spirit'al- ly. And then the
world tempts thru pride & en- vy (rest) & desire for pow'r & fame. We're finally
tempt- ed through evil lusts, Our (rest) sinful flesh it's called by name.
4. So these make
up all the deadly per- ils (rest) and temptations which we bear. We surely
know that this side of heav- en, (rest) they will constantly be there. Although temp-
ta- tions will always come we (rest) do not need to let them stay. But rather,
"Lead not in to temp- ta- tion," (rest) is the pray'r we ought to pray.

THE FINAL PETITION
(Polly Wolly Doodle)
1. In the
(C)prayer that Jesus taught us God has brief- ly let us (G7)know all the
(G7)troubl- es that be- set us as our way on earth we (D)go,
C. So that
(C)we wouldn't, think, or con- sid- er boast or (G7)say that, as
(G7)we our lives are liv- ing, do not have an awful vital need to (D)pray.
2. So that
we might be re- mind- ed in this last petition we have a
fin- al statement giv- en, summing up entire- ly
all the
C. things that we pray God would grant us by His grace. "Father
help us to be rid of all the prob- lems, troubles, dangers that we face."
3. This pe-
ti- tion sees the dev- il as the sum of all our ills. He ob-
structs the things we pray for: kingdom, bread or what God wills.
C. These he
tries to re- move, doing all within his pow'r. Surely,
if God did not hear this prayer, we would- n't last a single little hour.
4. Final-
ly our prayer is fin- ished and we close it with a word which we
pray because we know with certain- ty that God has heard.
C. For the
Lord taught us all this is how our prayers should go, so we
hap- pily can close our prayers with, "Amen! Amen! Yes! It shall be so!"
