THE CREED
(The Irish Washer Woman)

1. A
(D)state- ment was writ-ten a long time a- go though

(A7)just when, ex- act- ly we real- ly don't know, Its

(D)aim the a- pos- tles in- struc- tion to show, the

(A7)words that are now known to (D)us as (G)the (D)Creed.

2. The-
creed is di- vi- ded up in- to three sec- tions, each
part called an ar- tic- le, mak- ing in- spec- tions o(F)
part of the tri- ni- ty. In these re- flec- tions we
learn how God sa- tis- fies all of our need.

3. Ar- ti- cle one shows God's work in cre- a- tion then
Ar- ti- cle two shows His plan of sal- va- tion. The
work of the Spi- rit in sanc- ti- fi- ca- tion is
what is re- cor- ded in ar- ti- cle three.

4. And-
so in the creed we see God’s loving grace which
no- thing in hea v’n or on earth can dis- place, e-
quip- ping us dai- ly for run- ning the race for our
God who to us gave him- self to- tal- ly.

THE FIRST ARTICLE
(the Camp Granada Song)

1. God cre-

(G)a-ted heav'ns and (D7)earth. Dreamed me

(D7)up and caused my (G)birth. Gave me

(B7)eyes, ears mouth and (Em)nose, limbs and

(D)hands and fin-gers, (A7)feet and (D7)toes.

Gave me

(G)sight and taste and (D7)sound to en-

(D7)joy all thing a- (G)round. Gave a

(B7)mind so I could (Em)see (C)all the

(G)many many (D7)things he's done for (G)me. (C) (G)

2. Gave the
roof a-bove my head, food and
clothes and nice warm bed, fami-
ly and all my friends, I know
These are other things he also sends.

Need to
question, heart to sigh, sense of
wonder, tears to cry, Laughter
that can split my sides, These are
also other things that God pro-vides.

B. (Gm)He pro-(F)vides the things I need each

(Gm)day, pro- (F)tects from danger on life's,

(B flat) way, pre- serves from evils and from

(Cm)harms, enfolding (D7)in his loving arms.

3. If you
asked and you sure could why God
gives us all this good. It's not
merit on our part, but it
comes out of his kind and loving heart.

For these
things I'm bound to pray and to
thanks to him ev'ry day. Praise, serve,
love and obey too, because
all these things most certainly are true.

THE SECOND ARTICLE
(Goober Peas)

1. (G)I believe that Jesus (C)Christ is truly (G)God, be-

(G)got- ten of the Father be- (C)fore the world be-(D7)gan.

(G)I believe he was of the (C)vir- gin Mary born, which

(G)tells me that he's, al-so (D7)truly (G)man.

(G)There is (C)one more (D7)thing I need to (G)say.

(G)It is so im-(C)portant, it (G)can- not (D7)be (G)ignored, for

(G)I believe that Jesus by (C)dy- ing on the cross and

(G)ris- ing from the dead be(D7)-came my (G)Lord.

2. Though I was created by God and by him given the
good things that I needed to live from day to day,
I was lead by Satan to evil, sin and death, de-
serv- ing under heav- en's wrath to lay.
Was there counsel, de- liv- erance or help
was there any comfort that could be found for me?
'Til the Son of God in his nev- er ending love de-
stroyed the devil's pow'r and made me free!

3. Not with things that perish did he my ransom pay, not
pal- try gold or silver, a great- er price he gave. In
blood he made the payment, in suf- fering and death, to
free from sin and Sa- tan and the grave.
This he did that I might be his own,
be part of His kingdom and strive to serve him too, in
right- eousness and blessing as from death he did rise for
all these things most cer- tainly are true.

THE THIRD ARTICLE
(Joshua Fit the Battle of Jerico)

C. (Am)What does the Holy Spi- rit do, (E7)Spi- rit do, (Am)Spi- rit do?

(Am)What does the Holy Spi- rit do? the (E7)Spi- rit sancti- (Am)fies.

(Am)That means 'e makes us ho- ly, (E7)ho- ly, (Am)ho- ly.

(Am)That means 'e makes us ho- ly, just (E7)as the name im- (Am)plies.

1. Con-

(Am)cern- ing our sal- va- tion nothing could we do at (E7) all for

(Am)spir- it will and rea-son were de- (E7)feat- ed in the (Am)fall. And

(Am)so we know if we believe in Je- sus Christ our (E7)Lord it's

(Am)on- ly 'cause the Spi- rit has our (E7)dead- ened hearts re- (Am)stored. (E7)Oh,

Chorus:

2. The
Spi- rit's task of mak- ing holy, where does it be- gin? When the
Spi- rit brings the Gos- pel that can free us from our sin. And
how is this ac- com- plished? thru the preach- ing of the Word! The
Spi- rit works cre- a- ting faith where ev- er it is heard. Oh,

Chorus:

3. Al-
though God's grace is ours in Christ and hol- iness begun we
live as "saintly sin- ners" 'til our life on earth is done. And
so the Spirits task continues in our lives each day, for-
giving sins, re- new- ing faith and show- ing us the way. Oh,

Once again:

4. It's
thru the holy Chris- tian Church the Spi- rit does his chores, though
not the buildings but the people gath- ered thru its doors. For
it is here the Word is heard and sac- raments re- ceived,
bring- ing pardon, grant- ing life to all who have be- lieved. Oh,

You guessed it:

5. It's
thru the Holy Spi- rit, then, our life in Christ be- gins and
all thru life the Spi- rit works to cleanse us from our sins, 'til
we reach heaven where forgiveness we'll no longer need, be-
cause from Satan, sin and death we'll be completely freed. Oh,

One final time: (with feeling)

BAPTISM PART 1 (What is Baptism?)
(Selling Coccles and Mussels -Alive, Alive-O)
(Keep it lively!)

1. (D)Wat- er is some- thing we (A7)use every day, for

(D)drink- ing and cook- ing at (G)work and at (A7)play, for

(D)wash- ing the car and for (A7)grow- ing a lawn, for

(D)throw- ing at oth- ers or (G)ski- ing (A7)up- (D)on. The

(D)rais- ing of cat- tle the (A7)float- ing of goos- es. It

(D)seems that for wat- er we (G)have lots (A7)of (D)uses.

2. And
so we may won- der that God would com- mand that
we would use wat- er the way that He planned, for
bap- tiz- ing peo- ple. It seems kind of odd that
we would re- ceive this com- mand- ment from God. The
stuff is so com- mon, you 'd think that He'd ough- ter use
some- thing that's far more im- pres- sive than wat- er.

3. God
may- be chose wat- er be- cause it is plain, be
cause its as com- mon as riv- ers or rain, so
we wouldn't have the temp- ta- tion to think these
ben- e- fits come from a dunk in the drink.
But that they come from the Word that He gave us. It's
wat- er com- bined with the Word that can save us.

4. That
He has com- mand- ed we don't need to look too
far 'till we see that its right in the book.
"Go , make dis- cip- les, bap- tize every one in the
name of the Fath- er and Spir- it and Son." Can
you think of any more rea- son to do it than
that God has said that we ought to get to it?

5. And so we bap- tize, in God's name we go,
with the as- sur- ance that we surely know, though
wat- er is wat- er , in bap- tism we have
some- thing much more than the wat- er we see.
Some- thing im- por- tant for our un- der- stand- ing, a-
long with the wat- er God's word and com- mand- ing.

BAPTISM PART 2 (What does baptism do?)
(The Battle Hymn of the Republic)

1. God has

(G)told us, "Go and preach and baptize in my holy name." And al-

(C)though it's we who do it, we should (G)know it is the same as if

(G)God Himself were acting, for in- deed it's (B7)God who (Em)is, acting

(C)thru the sacra- (G)ment to (D7)make us (G)His.

C. (G)Yes it's God who takes the ac- tion. (C)Yes it's God who takes the (G)ac- tion.

(G)Yes it's God who (B7)takes the (Em)ac- tion, in the

(C)sac- rament to (G)make (D7)us (G)His.

2. This should
nev- er be forgotten, when we bap- tize we are taught it is
not to make of us a king or prince or astronaut. When God
said to go and Baptize, here's the pur- pose that he gave. "Who be-
lieves and who is baptized I will save."

C. Here's the purpose that he gave us. Here's the purpose that he gave us.
Here's the purpose that he gave us. "Who be-
lieves and who is baptized I will save."

3. And just
what is meant by saving, well here's one thing you can bet. It is
not the kind of saving like a goal- ie in a net. When we're
saved we are delivered, freed from Sat- an, sin and grave. This is
just exactly what it means to save.

C. When we're saved we are de-li- vered. When we're saved we are de-li- vered.
When we're saved we are de-li- vered. This is
just exactly what it means to save.

4. When we 're
bap- tized we are given all these great and wond'rous things. Water
is the outward sign to which our heart, then, firmly clings. Word and
wat- er rolled together, in this way His love we see. It's a
gift of love from God to you and me.

C. Word and water rolled to- geth- er. Word and water rolled to- geth- er.
Word and water rolled to- geth- er. It's a
gift of love from God to you and me.

BAPTISM PART 3
(The Erie Canal)

1. How

(Am)does Baptism (Dm)do what it (E7)does?

(Am)We have seen that it (Dm)is- n't (E7)be- (Am)cause the

(Am)water's special, (Dm)for we (E7)know the

(Am)Word must be with the (Dm)H 2 (E7)and (Am)0.

C. The

(C)word that's there is of the (G)Son. It

(Am)points to the cross and the work he's (E7)done. And

(Am)when I'm baptized then (Dm)I can (E7)see the

(Am)work of Christ was (Dm)giv- en (E7)to (Am)me.

2. This
work of Christ can not be bought
by our works the Bib- le has taught. There's
just one way that it is received,
when by grace, it is simp- ly believed.

Bap- tism's not a work we do,
but God's gift for me and you. By
faith we hold this grace so broad, re-
ceive thru water the prom- ise of God.

BAPTISM PART 4
(Old MacDonald Had a Farm)

1. Be-

(G)cause we're baptized (C)and set (G)free, (A7)e- (D7)i- e- i- (G)o, the

(G)sin- ful nature in (C)us should (G)be, (A7)e- i- (D7)e- i- (G)o,

(G)drowned and put to death each day, and

(G)all the old sins be thrown away. Be-

(G)cause we're baptized (C)and set (G)free (A7)e- i- (D7)e- i- (G) o.

2. This is what we all should do, e- i- e- i- o.
Let our sins make us feel blue, e- i- e- i- o.
From them daily turn aside and
let them no more in us abide. Be-
cause we're baptized and set free e- i- e- i- o.

3. The
old ways then should be erased, e- i- e- i- o. And
all of them should be replaced, e- i- e- i- o,
by a new man, cleansed and free, for-
ev- er to live in God's com- pany. Be-
cause we're baptized and set free e- i- e- i- o.

4. For
just as Christ was made to die, e- i- e- i- o, in
bap- tism too, both you and I, e- i- e- i- o,
died with him that we might be
raised with him e- ter- nally. Be-
cause we're baptized and set free e- i- e- i- o.

5. He
brought us with him thru the strife, e- i- e- i- o, that
we might live a brand new life, e- i- e- i- o.
All of this, we can suppose, is
what Baptizing with water shows. Be-
cause we're baptized and set free e- i- e- i- o.

THE LORD'S SUPPER, PART 1
(Davie Crocket "Born on a mountain top...")

1. (D)On the night he (G)was be- (D)trayed

(D)our Lord Je- sus (E7)Christ took (A7)bread.

(D)He give thanks broke (G)it and (E7)then

(A7)pass- ing it 'round these words he (D) said,

C. (D)"This here (G)bread's my (D)body, (A7)It was give for (D)you.

2. Aft- er they had et* their meal He
took the cup in a like-wise way,
One more time give thanks to God and
to them all these words did say.

C. This here wine's my blood and It was shed for you too.

3. And so when we come and kneel
at the al- tar, we be- lieve,
In the bread and in the wine, his
Blood and bod- y are what we re- ceive.

C. For you, for forgiveness. This is my promise true!

THE LORD'S SUPPER, PART 2
(O, Where Have You Been, Billy Boy, Billy Boy)

1. In

(C)bap- ti- sm we have all been set free. It is

(C)there we are first born a- (G7)new. But,

(G7)thought new within, it (C)seems our old skin (F)still af-

(C)fects lots of (G7)things that we (C)do.

2. The
world and the devil in so many ways, try to
get us to stumble and slip. They
cause us to doubt, or they just wear us out and we
of- ten grow weary and trip.

3. We
have to concede we real- ly do need our
faith both restored and re- newed. We
need this, we know, if faith is to grow. That is
some- thing that should be pur- sued.

4. And
so God has given us "food for our soul," to as-
sure us when fail- ures press in. The
wine and the bread, with the words that are said, tell us
we have forgiveness of sin.

5. This
is what we get. On that you can bet. We are
told in the words Jesus said. "My
bod- y, for you. " "To for- give your sins too." We re-
ceive in the wine and the bread.

6. For
this reason Christ bids us both eat and drink. Of his
grace, its a sure pledge and sign. Our
hearts need not grieve, but firm- ly believe that these
bless- ings are both yours and mine.

THE LORD'S SUPPER, PART 3
(Jingle Bells)

C. (D)Bread is bread. Simply bread. Wine is (G)only (D)wine.

(G)One of them grows (D)in the field, the (E7)oth- er on a (A7)vine. Sal-

(D)va- tion, for- give- ness and life are (G)all con- (D)ferred,

(G)when these are con- (D)nect- ed up with (A7)God's own gracious (D) word.

1. You

(D)take some flour and mix with wat- er, salt and (G)yeast. You

(G)stretch and knead it, (D)then you leave it (A7)rise an hour, at (D)least. You

(D)stick it in the stove. You turn the dial to (G)"on." If

(G)ev- 'ry thing goes (D)right you'll soon have (A7)bread for munching (D)on.

Chorus

2. You
take a bunch of grapes and throw them in a vat, take
off your shoes and socks and stomp them 'til they're squashed all flat. You
store them in the dark. If ev- 'rything goes fine, (as-
sum- ing that your feet were clean) you'll end up with some wine.

Chorus

3. We
know it's not the grapes , we know it's not the grain. That
these things can't forgive our sins is all so very plain. It
was upon the cross, the vic- tory was won
by the death and resurrection of God's only Son.

Chorus

4. But
just how could we know, that all of this is true ex-
cept that God has said to us "poured out and giv'n for you?" For
just as God's great love, is writ- ten in the Word, so
al- so in the sacrament for- give- ness too is heard.

Chorus

THE LORD'S SUPPER, PART 4
(Gonna Lay Down My Burden)

(G)Who receives the sacrament (rest) in a worthy way?

(D7)(rest) Is it only given to (rest) (G)those who never stray,

(G)those who discipline themselves, (rest) fasting day and night to re-

(D7)ceive it, in a (G)way (A7)that's (G)right?

All these things are good to do. (rest) This we can declare,
(rest) but there's a better way (rest) for us to prepare
than by praying, fasting or (rest) standing on our head. Just be-
lieve the words that Jesus said.

Giv- en and poured our for you. (rest) This is what they say.
(rest) If we just believe them we, (rest) have what they portray.
For forgiveness of your sins, (rest) this was also writ in the
Bib- le, so it's what we get.

For forgiveness of your sins. (rest) What a treasure store
(rest) and this wealth is opened and (rest) placed at every door.
what a blessing we all have, (rest) knowing we're reprieved when the
words of Christ are, just be- lieved.

THE LORD'S SUPPER, PART 5
(Yankee Doodle)

1. When

(G)Je- sus gave the sac- ra- (D7)ment, he (G)said that we should do (D7)it! Can

(G)we think of a (C)better reason (D7)for us to get (G)to it? We

(G)know so well he did not (D7)say, "as (G)sel- dom as you drink (D7)it," But

(G)by the way some f(C)olks attend they (D7)sur- e- ly must (G)think it.

C. (C)To communion we should go, (G)of- ten as we're able.

(C)Je- sus wants us all to come quite (G) of- ten (D7)to his (G)table.

2. We
may feel that, because of sin, we don't deserve to take it. We
need to know that this is true and we should not mistake it. God
didn't give the sacrament be- cause of perfect livin'. But
He gave it to us so we might know that we're forgiven.

Chorus

3. But
if, upon the other hand, His sup- per is not taken, be-
cause we think we are so good, then we are sure mistaken. The
scrip- ture say of all of us, the mark we're often missin' and
though we may not feel our sin, we sure- ly need to listen.

Chorus

4. We
should receive the sacrament at an- y time, whenever we
have the chance. That makes more sense than sel- domly or never. For
Je- sus wants us all to know his grace he gives us freely. In
bread and wine he's there for us with full forgiveness, really!

Chorus
