(The Battle Hymn of the Republic)
1. God has
(G)told us, "Go and preach and baptize in my holy name." And al-
(C)though it's we who do it, we should (G)know it is the same as if
(G)God Himself were acting, for in- deed it's (B7)God who (Em)is, acting
(C)thru the sacra- (G)ment to (D7)make us (G)His.
C. (G)Yes it's God who takes the ac- tion. (C)Yes it's God who takes the (G)ac- tion.
(G)Yes it's God who (B7)takes the (Em)ac- tion, in the
(C)sac- rament to (G)make (D7)us (G)His.
2. This should
nev- er be forgotten, when we bap- tize we are taught it is
not to make of us a king or prince or astronaut. When God
said to go and Baptize, here's the pur- pose that he gave. "Who be-
lieves and who is baptized I will save."
C. Here's the purpose that he gave us. Here's the purpose that he gave us.
Here's the purpose that he gave us. "Who be-
lieves and who is baptized I will save."
3. And just
what is meant by saving, well here's one thing you can bet. It is
not the kind of saving like a goal- ie in a net. When we're
saved we are delivered, freed from Sat- an, sin and grave. This is
just exactly what it means to save.
C. When we're saved we are de-li- vered. When we're saved we are de-li- vered.
When we're saved we are de-li- vered. This is
just exactly what it means to save.
4. When we 're
bap- tized we are given all these great and wond'rous things. Water
is the outward sign to which our heart, then, firmly clings. Word and
wat- er rolled together, in this way His love we see. It's a
gift of love from God to you and me.
C. Word and water rolled to- geth- er. Word and water rolled to- geth- er.
Word and water rolled to- geth- er. It's a
gift of love from God to you and me.
