(Selling Cockles and Mussels -Alive, Alive-O)
(Keep it lively!)
1. (D)Wat- er is some- thing we (A7)use every day, for
(D)drink- ing and cook- ing at (G)work and at (A7)play, for
(D)wash- ing the car and for (A7)grow- ing a lawn, for
(D)throw- ing at oth- ers or (G)ski- ing (A7)up- (D)on. The
(D)rais- ing of cat- tle the (A7)float- ing of goos- es. It
(D)seems that for wat- er we (G)have lots (A7)of (D)uses.
2. And
so we may won- der that God would com- mand that
we would use wat- er the way that He planned, for
bap- tiz- ing peo- ple. It seems kind of odd that
we would re- ceive this com- mand- ment from God. The
stuff is so com- mon, you 'd think that He'd ough- ter use
some- thing that's far more im- pres- sive than wat- er.
3. God
may- be chose wat- er be- cause it is plain, be
cause its as com- mon as riv- ers or rain, so
we wouldn't have the temp- ta- tion to think these
ben- e- fits come from a dunk in the drink.
But that they come from the Word that He gave us. It's
wat- er com- bined with the Word that can save us.
4. That
He has com- mand- ed we don't need to look too
far 'till we see that its right in the book.
"Go , make dis- cip- les, bap- tize every one in the
name of the Fath- er and Spir- it and Son." Can
you think of any more rea- son to do it than
that God has said that we ought to get to it?
5. And so we bap- tize, in God's name we go,
with the as- sur- ance that we surely know, though
wat- er is wat- er , in bap- tism we have
some- thing much more than the wat- er we see.
Some- thing im- por- tant for our un- der- stand- ing, a-
long with the wat- er God's word and com- mand- ing.
