FRESHWATER HOT SPOTS
STRIPED BASS: Good bites everywhere. The Colorado River has been good from Havaus upstream through Mead. Mostly fish from 2-0 to 4-0, but a couple of quality fish were landed at Willow Beach this week. The California Aqueduct in the Taft and Lost Hills area has been good with fish in the 2-0 to 5-0 range. Skinner and Pyramid are also pretty good, mostly on anchovies, mostly for smaller fish.
TROUT: Big Bear Lake, Lake Gregory, Casitas and Cachuma are the best bets. Trolling is the ticket. Most waters in the Sierra good for stocked fish. Fly action good at Crowley and Hot Creek. The high elevation and backcountry lakes are also getting better and access is good most everywhere now.
PANFISH: Just fair redear bites at Casitas and Cachuma, but the fish showing are often over a pound. Perris, Vicente, Murray, Lopez and Santa Margarita are good to excellent for bluegill.
LARGEMOUTH BASS: Still generally good bass action throughout the region. Top bets would be Casitas, Castaic, Perris, Silverwood, Skinner, Cachuma, Oso, San Vicente, and Sutherland for solid fishing. Most fish are up chasing reaction baits and surface bites are possible just about everywhere. If you can dip live shad, that is a hot ticket everywhere and anywhere those baitfish occur.
CATFISH: Top bets include the Colorado River for flatheads to 30 pounds or more, Lake Isabella, most San Diego area lakes, and just about all the San Joaquin Valley and Central Coast waters. Silverwood, Pyramid, and Piru are also starting to crank out some cats.
