"Call him now, it's like what? Um 8 or 7." Sylvia sighed. JC and Justin left to go to a store.
"I will." She picked up the phone, dialed his number.
"Hey is Travis there?" She asked.
"Hold on." Said a lady's voice.
"This is Travis."
"Oh good. Hi, um this is Sylvia."
"Oh Sylvia."
"What's wrong?"
"Wait, aren't you at all sad?"
"About?"
"You haven't got the call or the papers?"
"What are you talking about?'
"Oh god, Sylvia, they told me you did."
"Tell me. What happened?" She got worried.
"There was a terrible storm here and Joan, my girlfriend was driving home from my parents', the roads were bad..."
"Travis tell me what happened." Christina gave her concerned looks.
"Teddy was in the car, it was terrible, the doctors told me...there was no chance he would survive, he died Sylvia, the same night."
"Oh god Travis, why didn't you call me??" all the words were shaky. She blinked tears.
"I thought it would be better from someone else."
"This can't happened, he's supposed to fly in the 17th."
"I'm so sorry Sylvia, I feel so terrible." She hung up on him. She breathed hard.
"What happened?"
"Travis told me Teddy died in a car accident." She cried, Christina held her.
"Omigod, sweetheart."
"Oh, my Teddy, how could this happen?"
"Shhh...." She comforted her.
"No, I can't think about this, I got more important stuff now." She stood up, dried her eyes, they still were irritated and red.
"If you need someone to talk to." Christina said before she left.
"Hey guys were back." Justin popped in. Christina sighed deeply. "What's wrong?"
"Oh nothing, we're going to the beach tomorrow."
"Great, that sounds like soo much fun." JC said.
------
JC and Justin were having a great time. JC noticed Sylvia being sad and out of touch. Christina too, was protective of her, sympathetic, but to us, she was slightly harsh. After JC and Justin finished their game, they hung out with Christina and Sylvia. Sylvia gave out signals to Christina to beat it.
"I think we could swim around Justin." Christina said.
"Hey J, wanna come?" Sylvia looked at Christina.
"Oh, no, just me and you." Christina said quickly, she grabbed his hand and started walking away.
"That was weird." JC smiled, but it vanished when he saw the look on Sylvia's face.
"Do you wanna go on a walk?" Sylvia asked, JC nodded, he could tell she just got hit by something, big and hard. The beach was setting and the sun bleached the clouds with brilliant shades of red and orange. She stop and leaned up against the railing, watching the sunset. JC stood next to her, watched her patiently.
"Ok JC, this is very important, and I really need to tell you this." She turned to him and then looked back at the sun.
"Go on." JC moved to watch her and the sun.
"A while back, before I met you, I had a boyfriend. He was great, well we decided to take a step forward in our relationship." She stopped and a breeze swept through them. She continued.
"The truth was, he got me pregnant. I didn't like the idea of an abortion, or when we decided to keep it. Keep it not as a burden either. We found out that we were totally different people, we came to an agreement before we went separate. He would have the baby in his first few years of his life, and I would the rest." Her eyes began to water.
"And yesterday, I found out my son died." She blinked the tears out. JC moved to hold her, but she pushed him away.
"JC, I don't want us to end like that." she looked at him.
"We won't, Sylvia you know I love you like crazy, I wanna help you so much..."
"You know that day I was visiting a friend."
"Yeah." JC got suspicious.
"I was really going to the doctor, the news is I'm pregnant again." he thought for a minute, when she saw he wasn't responding she cried even more. 'I don't want it to end like Travis and I did' she thought. JC realized that this baby is almost what he wanted, sure he wanted after they got married, but Sylvia was to important to him. He looked at her, she was looking away now, crying. He saw the pain, it was so immense and terrible. JC placed his hand on her shoulder.
"This is so great." he whispered. She jerked around fast. His smile clearly showed it, he hugged her.
"Thank you so much JC." she whispered back.
------
"What should I name it?" Sylvia asked, Justin and Christina were visiting JC and Sylvia. Christina and Justin were getting married and Lance and Alicia are dating.
"Go with a cutesy name, like Isabelle or Jackie." Christina suggested, Sylvia was appalled.
"That's all you can think of? Ugh. How bout Angela?"
"Oh, I love that name, you better take that one, it soo pretty."
"JC!! I got one."
"Yeah? You did?" he said, he over to Sylvia, rubbed her stomach, then kissed it.
"Angela, very pretty, classic and Christina likes it."
"Very nice, I like it too, but what if it's a boy?"
"Mitchell." she said quickly.
"Mitch, I could live with that too." he rubbed her arms and kissed her.
"Oh. Oh." she put JC hand on her stomach.
"It kicked!!" JC said. Sylvia smiled at JC.
"Go get me some melon." Sylvia pointed to the door.
"Ok, I'm out. Don't do anything strenuous. Not good for the baby." he pointed at her and left. Justin walked in.
"Hey sweetie." Justin said to Christina.
"Hey babe, we have the baby name." he walked in the kitchen and grabbed a coke.
"Oh what?" Justin put his arm around his new girlfriend, Christina. Sylvia obsereved them closely, she came to the conclusion they were in love. Christina found out that Lance's girlfriend was Alicia. When she told Justin it was about the same night they kissed for the first time.
"Angela or Mitchell." Sylvia declared proudly.
"Nice, nice, where'd JC go?"
"Get me some melon, he'll be back soon." Sylvia looked out the window.
------
JC was driving down the interstate, it was rainy, the cars were blurs and nothing could be made out. He was heading towards the hospital. Sylvia was giving birth, when he rubbed the window to get a good look, he saw the car heading straight towards him. 'Too late' he thought, but something strange happened and he missed the car.
------
Everything happened so soon. JC could barely comprehend, Angela was delivered healthy and was beautiful, if only Sylvia was there to watch her cry along with all the other babies. She was laying in the bed, pale and sick. It made him feel defenseless, sadden knowing he had to watch his love deteriorate in the hospital bed. He watched her, the doctors told him there was no hope and no using staying, but understand he would be with her. Even though they never exchanged vows, they were in love and this was unreal. The only comfort he had was she was sleeping and without the pain. He watched her, his little sleeping beauty, he found himself wondering what she was dreaming. About him, about her past life, or her future. Or was she having a nightmare or having a pleasant wonder-like world dream. He watched her, her pale skin. So white, like the night moon.
He found himself on the beach. Where he used to live. It was the night, beautiful. The waves were crashing against the beach, he noticed a girl, with dark hair. He didn't see her face, she was walking away from him. Her white dress flowed in the wind, it had to be a dream. He ran up to her, when he pulled her around it was Sylvia.
"Oh Sylvia, thank god I found you, let's go back." he pulled her toward the place he appeared from. She was happy, she pulled out his grasp, she gave him a look of confusion.
"Why won't you go?" JC asked.
"JC, I'm so happy to see you." she made out her mouth, a tear formed around the rim of her eyes. JC hugged her.
"You scared me. Let's go home Sylvia." he tried to pull her again.
"No!!" she yelled. A clap of water hit the beach. She calmed. "I can't."
"Why can't you?" JC didn't understand. "Sylvia, I love you and I want you to come back."
"JC, it would be the same as before."
"What?"
"Everyone I love, gone, till I gave up." she let two tears trickle down her cheek.
"Sylvia, please don't do this to me."
"JC, I know that you love me. I know it. But when you drove to the hospital, you felt it." she grabbed his hand and they walked down the beach.
"I had to give up. If I live, that means, all my children, my family, will die. They told me Angela was going to die in a car accident. And you, but I gave up. I don't want to lose anymore, I don't want to lose you." she continued.
"Now, I can be here watching you two, and I'm happy. Happy, me and you have a beautiful girl. Happy, that I won't lose anymore."
"Sylvia, I don't care, I want you with me. Don't do this."
"I have to. JC, you know that. And taking me back, will hurt me more than watching you. I can't deal with losing you, now I'll be with you."
"Sylvia, I can't, I won't. This is not how I want it. I want to raise Angela with you."
"JC, you have to. I just want you to live a better life. I don't want you to suffer." she quieted. "Don't want you to forget." JC nodded, there was no way out. He kissed her, their last kiss. The most emotional kiss.
"You never give up do you? Now go." she whispered after it. Sylvia slowly vanished. JC walked back.
------
JC was laying in bed, his life was pleasant. He never married, Angela reminded him too much of her mother and he wanted Sylvia. He was old now, Angela a woman. She took care of him, now he was in bed asleep. He woke up, he saw a light in the door crack. it was bright, the door opened slowly. When he felt the light on his face, it tightened. He knew the sensation, he was becoming younger. When he saw the figure, he was his age when Angela was five. Sylvia walked to the bed. she smiled at him, touched his face and now he was the age of when he met Sylvia. They started walking away. He looked back, his body lay on the bed with a smile on his face. He looked at her.
"I'm glad you never gave up, JC." She said to him.
