Alicia and Sylvia were talking on the couch in the living room.
"Did you guys hear?" India asked while walking in with Whitney.
"Hear what?" asked Sylvia (she's so used to be clueless about things).
"There are people moving in next door." Whitney answered.
"Really?!" Sylvia exclaimed. She ran opened the door and ran into someone. She felt a warm hand touch her arm, she saw a guy, brown hair and his blue eyes startled held her.
"Hey watch it." He said to her. She jerked away from his grasp.
"What are you doing outside my door?" she asked him.
"Well, I thought it would be nice and homey if we met the neighbors." He explained.
"Oh, sorry I bumped into you. My name is Sylvia..."
"And I'm JC," he interrupted. He extended his hand. "Nice to meet you Sylvia."
"Nice meeting you," she shook his hand. "Um, I was on my way over there but, I...well, nearly tackled you, I'm sorry about that, because my friends were like, people are moving in. Did I hurt you? and it's just that the people who lived here before you, were the best and threw great parties. And I just wanted to be like cool with everyone but now I almost hurt you and I feel bad because of that, but are you ok?" he laughed, she said all that quick and in one breath.
"Wow, I know no one who can do that." He stated while laughing.
"Thanks, I feel special." She gave him a glare and he laughed again.
"Well, I want to invite you over, I met the man next to us, and well, I guess you could say meet, he could barely hear anything I said."
"Oh, Mr. Carry, yeah, he's so nice, I've known him for a while."
"Well, would you like to come over."
"I was on my way," she walked past him and into their apartment. It was big, it looked like a mirror image of the one she and her friends lived in. It was very simple.
"Sorry about having nothing in here yet, but we just got here," he apologized, she walked around it looking at it.
"Are you living by yourself?" she asked not seeing any other sign of other people.
"No, the guys are out, I stayed in to unpack."
"Oh," she turned and looked at him. "It is nice, I love the balcony view."
"I haven't looked out it yet."
"Wow, it's gorgeous," she informed him. She found her way to the room with the balcony, she stepped out, the smell of ocean filled her lungs, she loved it. She looked to her left, it was her balcony connected to theirs, she remembered sneaking over here through that.
"Your right," she looked at JC, he was staring at the waves pound at the beach.
"I'm always right," she winked and climbed over to her balcony. "Come over later with your friends," she told him and went into her room. She always left her door open. She walked down the hall. She heard a thud and two people laughing coming from Christina's room, she opened the door and found a blond guy on top of her on the ground, they were laughing still. When Christina saw Sylvia she stood up.
"Sylvia, Hi. Um this is Lance he lives next door," he waved.
"Hey Lance," she left. She found Alicia and India talking.
"Hey," she plopped down on the couch.
"Hi Sylvia." Alicia said.
"Guess what?" Sylvia sat up straight.
"What?" India asked.
"I saw one of the guys who lives next door," she enlighten them.
"Was he hot?" Alicia asked.
"He was ok, a bit, I don't know but, I don't like him much."
"Oh, too bad, I mean we could have gotten you out of that no-date hole of yours." Alicia said.
"I'm sorry, I don't go after guys with no brains or looks." Alicia looked offended,
"If that's your attitude, you won't find any guy made for you." India laughed.
"Hehehe," Sylvia stood up. "I will find a guy for me," she got herself a coke.
"Who wants to go to the pool?" India asked.
"I will, who knows I might find him there." Sylvia said. They got on their little skimpy bikinis.
"Last one to the pool is a rotten egg!!" Sylvia screamed. They took off, down the stairs, to the pool. Sylvia made it first.
"I'm first, I'm first." She danced.
"Hi there," said a familiar voice. Sylvia spun around. It was JC and two other guys sitting in the pool.
"Hey JC," she said. Her friends caught up to her.
"These must be your friends," he said.
"And these must be your friends," all of them but JC and Sylvia wore expressions consisting of, who are these guys? And how do they know each other? Alicia nudged Sylvia.
"Who are these guys?" she whispered.
"Okay, I'm Sylvia and this is Alicia and India," she introduced.
"And I'm JC and this is Justin and Chris," that stood around, Sylvia broke the silence
"Do you like my new suit?"
"What that stringy little excuse for a bathing suit?"
"Yes, and it cost a lot."
"What a surprise, since you could use the money to buy more clothing!"
"What are you trying to prove?"
"Nothing, just simply stating that you girls wear almost nothing."
"But you guys look great." Justin added staring at Alicia. Alicia noticed and blushed.
"Men, all the same." India said.
"Not true." Chris piped in.
"Well, while you guys are in the pool, I'll take the advantage of a more practical way of spending my afternoon," Sylvia and India started walking away. "I'm going to the pool." They left, they heard feet follow them, they ran, the guys caught up to them. JC pulled Sylvia down to the sand while Chris grabbed India. Sylvia pulled JC down to her, he landed on her. Their faces got close. She looked away, he breathed hard on her neck.
"What are they doing?" she looked and saw Alicia and Justin talking by the pool.
"That's Justin for you."
"If he hurts her in any way, I'll kill him, I swear I'll kill him," she got out from underneath him.
"That's nice, do you always strike fear in every relationship?"
"Yeah, you better not start one with me," she sat on the beach.
"Then I won't, I promise you that."
"And why is that?"
"Well, sorry to tell you this, your a bit to strange for me."
"Yeah, I thought the same thing," he raised his eyebrow. She ran for the ocean. She looked back, JC was running after her, she saw Chris and India kissing on the beach. He caught up with her.
"You never give up do you?" She asked him.
"I never will," he said. While he was talking, he got sprayed with ocean water. They got into a fight. He grabbed her and she fought out his arms, they called truce.
"And they just met." Sylvia said.
"Well, your friends are active."
"I know, look at them," she pointed to Justin and Alicia.
"Look at them," he pointed to Chris and India making out on the beach.
"Well, I'm going inside, are you still on for tonight?"
"Is Sylvia asking me on a date?" he raised and eyebrow.
"Don't think to highly of yourself," she smiled.
------
Sylvia found Whitney and another guy eating in the kitchen.
"Some diet," she said. Whitney made a look like 'You came at the wrong time'
"Hey I'm Joey," the guy waved.
"Hi, I'm Sylvia and [she looked at Whitney again who was glaring at her] I'm leaving," she said and went into her room. She showered, she stepped out to change. She held her towel and grabbed some clothes.
"Oh sorry," she turned around quick, it was JC. He covered his eyes.
"It's ok, you aren't the first."
"I'll leave."
"No, I'll be done," she went into the bathroom and slipped on her clothes. "There I'm done, it wasn't so bad."
"That's what you think."
"With that attitude it won't get you anywhere."
"That's what I'm looking forward to go."
"You and your crazy ideas."
"Talk about crazy ideas."
"You know I really didn't like you from the start."
"Feeling's mutual."
"Well, JC, I don't like to be rude, but I'm going to watch my movie."
"And I think it isn't rude at all."
------
"I really can't believe this, all my friends are dating the guys next door," she said pacing back and forth.
"Sylvia, it ain't that bad, I'm mean your friends are nice," she looked at him.
"I know, but I just feel so single when we go out," she said.
"You feel single? How bout hearing how great it is to have girlfriends 24/7, it's very troubling."
"My poor JC," she sympathized, she sat in his lap.
"How about we promise each other we will get a date Friday night."
"Promises are good, how bout we pinkie swear," she put up her pinkie.
"Ok," he wrapped his big pinkie around hers. "Now, I say we get food," she jumped off of him.
"You always eat."
"So?"
"Don't you get sick of it?"
"Never."
"How gross."
"Not really."
"I think so."
"You have an opinion about everything do you?"
"Yep, is that wrong?"
"No, but it isn't right either."
"And eating all the time is?"
"Yep."
"You are something JC."
"Something what?"
"Something else." She smirked.
"You're very nice."
"I'd like to think so, but I got to work on getting a hot guy for tonight."
"Well, you got one right here," he pointed at himself.
"You are too...how should I put it, not my type since we discussed this before, remember the beach?"
"Oh, I thought you'd might change your mind, but since you haven't..." she thought about today is her birthday, not one call from dad.
"And I won't, well I got to go. I really need to go to work, you could always stop by tonight."
"Ok, I might if my plan fails."
"Great."
She was wiping tables, she felt tired, the usual evening rush drained her, now the place was empty. She sat down in a chair and sighed. JC walked in and she brighten up a bit. He spotted her quick and made his way up to her.
"Wow, ghost town, eh?"
"Are you kidding? I feel so exhausted, I like it when it gets like this."
"I didn't know you worked in skimpy outfits, I might of came here more often."
"Stop it. That was completely what any guy would say."
"I'm a guy, I have the right?"
"Ugh, that makes me sick." She made a face.
"Is it this hard to get something we both agree on?"
"No, you just haven't tried hard enough." She moved to the next table, he followed her.
"And how about tonight, you and me?"
"Hmm...and next to spending my night watching some ridiculous movie, I'd rather pass."
"Oh, Sylvia, would it kill ya to have fun." She sighed.
"I get off in about two hours, if I don't see you, I go home."
"Great, maybe our promise is getting us somewhere."
"Now go, I don't want you bugging me any longer." She pointed to the door.
------
She stood outside with her coat covering herself, she looked at her watch. 'Late' she thought, she began walking toward the direction of her car. A car drove up to her, it was JC, he rolled down the window to talk to her.
"Sorry, Justin had a minor crisis, but I did get you something to make up," he pulled out a tiny white rose.
"Next time, don't get me a sorry excuse for a rose." He laughed.
"Now get in here girl." She smiled and jumped in.
"So where to?"
"My surprise." He grinned a devilish grin. They pulled into a parking lot.
"Ok, where are we?"
"You'll see." He grabbed her wrists and led her down a hall.
"Oh great, did I mention I hate surprises?" she said, he stopped infront a room, the halls were small and cramped. JC moved behind her, he set one hand one her eyes, opened the door and slipped the other one on her back and led her in. When he led her about the middle of the room, he took his hands off. She looked around and saw a room filled with decorations and one big box.
"What is all this?"
"It just so happens to be something I threw together."
"Why?"
"Cuz its your birthday."
"So?"
"If ya don't like it you could have said so." She hugged him. "Thanks." She whispered.
"I think that it is sweet, but your the only one."
"Only one?" Justin said, he was with Whitney. She carried a gigantic bear and Justin had a small box.
"Happy Birthday girl!!" Whitney hugged her.
"Thanks." Justin walked up to her, gave her a peck on the cheek and handed over the box.
"We couldn't forget our special Sylvia."
"No way." Whitney smiled at Sylvia.
"I don't actually feel up to this guys," she said, "thanks a lot, but I am tired, I really wanna head in, I got to go to work early tomorrow."
"Actually no," Christina walked in, "I'm working for you tomorrow."
"Omigod, really Chrissy? Wow, I kinda thought everyone basically forgot." Joey appeared with Alicia, Lance, and India.
"No way, we knew it was your birthday so, we thought this was good." He explained.
"It was all JC's idea." Alicia mentioned. He blushed.
"JC, thinking of others? I side I never saw," She smiled, "and I like it."
------
"Okay, what's the deal with him?" she asked Alicia.
"With who?" Alicia looked up at the short brunette that angrily walked in.
"JC, I mean he is the biggest jerk I swear."
"What did he do this time."
"He just so happen to take something of mine that he told me he was using as blackmail." Alicia laughed.
"And you have a problem with that?" She asked.
"Yes."
"What did he take?"
"My-my, my Hanson poster that you gave me." Alicia laughed harder.
"That ain't so bad."
"It is worse than bad." Sylvia nodded.
"Are you sure it was him?"
"He is and was the only one that went into my room."
"How did he get in?"
"Through my balcony door. Ugh, that creep, the next time I see him I'll..." The door opened and JC walked in.
"Hey Sylvia, what's up?" he said extra cheerful. She gave him a dirty look.
"I can't believe you, ugh, you make me soo angry." She narrowed her eyes.
"What? Sylvia what's wrong? What happened?" He said half smiling.
"You stole my freaking Hanson Poster!!" She yelled. Christina walked in the room.
"Sylvia, I borrowed your poster, it's back on the wall, choi!!" She ran out the door again. Sylvia's anger subsided and turned into embarrassment.
"Uh, I'm sorry."
"It's ok, now I know for sure you have one." JC took off into her room. Sylvia ran after him. When she caught up to him, he turned around. He stood there, he felt the urge to ask her out on a date, but stood at a loss for words. She watched him to see what he was going to say, they were so close that she could feel his breath on her.
"You have something right there," he brushed something off her shoulder, something imaginary to hide the speechlessness.
"Lovebirds at it again." Whitney said in the hall. Both Sylvia and JC blushed, but Sylvia found out later that Whitney was talking about Chris and India making out in the hall.
------
Sylvia found herself with JC again and they were watching TV. Over a long time they became better friends and watched either a movie or TV on Fridays. Whitney and Joey were still dating. And so was India and Chris, Christina and Lance. Alicia and Justin were on and off. Right now they were on. She looked at JC, she ignored the feelings she had for him. They were just friends. She sighed. JC broke into laughter. He looked at her.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
"Nothing, just a little tired."
"Here lay down," he pushed her head down to his lap. He looked down at her head, her bright eyes were watching the TV. He watched her and his feelings for her were in full thrust. He ran his fingers through her dark brown hair. She closed her eyes of the feeling of JC. She sat up. She put her hand on his cheek, he smiled, he pulled her closer to him. They kissed, he laid down, Sylvia climbed on top of him, he took of her blouse, she pulled of his shirt. He picked her up and carried her to her bed.
------
She woke up, JC was asleep, her hand was on his chest, she watched it go up and down. He smiled, she watched him sleep. He looked so peaceful. She watched him till he woke up. He smiled at her.
"Morning," he held her hand.
"Hey there, sleep good?" she asked.
"Yeah." She sat up, he pulled her on top of him. He kissed her. India walked in.
"Wake up!!" she yelled and saw them in bed. Sylvia got off of JC, they sat up. Sylvia looked down and JC looked away.
"Omigod, you guys were..." she said. Sylvia gathered her hair behind her ears and smiled, she looked at JC, he smiled at her and they kissed on the lips.
"Don't tell anyone yet India." Sylvia said, JC started kissing down Sylvia's bare neck.
"I won't, its just too strange."
"No really." JC said.
"Don't you guys hate each other, we can't get you guys in the same room without arguing."
"Well, we've grown to like each other." Sylvia said and laid down.
"I'm leaving." India left the room. JC pulled himself on Sylvia.
"This isn't strange," he said.
"Not at all."
"I thought so."
"I need to leave," she said, she pulled on a robe, JC pulled his pants on.
"Why do you need to leave?"
"Because, I do."
"Oh." JC pulled on his shirt.
"Listen, come to Joy and hang tonight, get the guys to come and I'm sure the girls will go."
"Ok, I guess, I'll have to wait," he kissed her. "Until then."
"You make it sound like eternity."
"It'll seem that way." He left out the balcony. She left to look for India. She was in her room, she sat on her bed.
"What's that all about?"
"I don't know but," She sighed "I like it a lot." She fell on the bed.
"Sylvia, you are in love."
"You think?"
"I know, he is perfect for you."
"I don't know, I hope we don't turn out like those couples." Sylvia made a face.
"You won't. I'm so excited for you, how was it?"
"Great, he has so much energy, it was great."
"Yeah." They laughed.
"C'mon, let's just go next door for a while."
"Ok." They knocked on the door, Chris answered.
"Hey girls, um, I've got to talk to you."
"Where's JC?" Sylvia asked.
"That's what I need to talk about." They sat on the couch.
"You know, JC is acting kinda strange, I mean, he didn't come home last night and you know how he's mister uptight, I thought it was strange, he didn't even yell at us for spilling beer on the carpet. And Sylvia I know you guys are friends and I thought you might know what's up."
India looked at Sylvia, she was in a dream state.
"I think...I think."
"You think what?" JC said, he walked over to Chris, punched him lightly on the arm.
"Hey buddy," he said. Sylvia started mouthing 'What is wrong with you' but he didn't understand it. She started getting frustrated with him. He sat next to her and looked at Chris in a weird way.
"Wait!!" Chris jumped up. "I know that look, JC you could never hide something, it was always written across your face."
"Sit down before you make a fool of yourself!!" India yelled.
"Too late," Sylvia glared at him.
---- Two weeks later ----
"How did they find out?" Sylvia asked JC. She beat her pencil on the pad.
"I don't know. I guess you can't trust Justin." JC looked down, "Or Joey or Lance."
"Great JC. And I always thought I was bad, I got to go back to work."
"See ya later, we're going out tonight, aiight?"
"Yeah fine," she walked away in a little red mini skirt and a black blouse, the uniform for the restaurant Christina worked at with her. It wasn't pleasant but it was a lot of money coming in. She was at the counter putting in some money and caught a glimpse of JC leaving, she sighed and continued.
