"Lance, we went over this, you are getting a dance instructor. We've hired the best, you'll be doing all our moves with style." Lance pouted a little still, he hated the idea of the guys not thinking he was good enough so they hired a dancer to teach him.

"You know I don't like it." His deep voice cracked through the air.

"I know it, but it'll be good. Um, Joe will be here tomorrow, be there." Lance plopped down on the couch, the thought of a male instructing him made him shudder. Justin entered the room reading a piece of paper. He noticed Lance laying on the couch.

"You know what this is Lance?" Lance sighed.

"What is it?" Annoyed still, he had less time than the guys now.

"This is a letter from Sandy, she's falling from me, listen to this. 'And I can't wait for you to call me, I love hearing your voice,' that has I love you written all over it." Lance rolled his eyes.

"Justin, you know better. I think you're falling for her, I bet you've read this letter a thousand times." Justin sighed, he knew what Lance said was right.

"No, only twenty, I'll be there soon though." Justin headed out the door. "Thanks man." Lance laid his head on the couch arm thinking about tomorrow.

"Lance, thank God I found you!" Joey jumped in the room. "I saw this hot girl here and I think she's working here, I didn't know what for but before I could talk to her, she left."

"Did she even exist?"

"Yes, I saw her here."

"Joey, remember you saw big bird on stage? You probably imagined her there, it's ok, you haven't been sleeping good lately and the stress is making you see things."

"You're probably right, thanks a lot." Joey left as quickly as he came. JC walked in not too long after him.

"Hey can I have your advice?" He asked.

"Man I got to start charging." He muttered under his breath. "Sure."

"Does this sound good; I know that we can't go back, let's face the fact, we're not the same, you know we've changed, and for years we'll remember, that love isn't forever?"

"It's ok, what's this for?"

"A song I'm writing and producing for a group. They're cool but I'm not sure..."

"They are meant for this song? JC just write another, this is a really good song and if you don't think it's them, just wait till the right group comes along."

"That's just what I was thinking, thank you, now I have to get ready to write the song now." JC walked off smoothly. Chris entered soon after him.

"Do they ever stop?" He thought out loud.

"Hey if you want me to leave." Chris backed up.

"No, go ahead." Chris smiled and sat near Lance.

"I wanted your advice on clothes, I'm not sure about the girls shirt here." Chris pulled out a few pictures, Lance looked over it.

"I think you should make it coed, have a guys shirt and a matching girls shirt. You should drop that shirt, it looks like my grandmother made it."

"Cool, that's a great idea. I got to get to work, thanks."

"No problem." Chris left soon. Lance sighed and went to the apartment to sleep and get ready for tomorrow.

Lance woke up, ten till seven. His mind raced, he's expected there in ten minutes. He pulled on some clothes and quickly drove over there. He opened the door to the room and sighed. A short woman stretched on the floor.

"Oh, um, Joe?" She stood up on her feet and walked slowly over to him.

"Lance? I'm Joey, I guess the forgot the 'y'."

"Oh, so, I'm sorry I'm a little late."

"No problem, I came a little late myself, I needed to stretch. Well, let's get started."

After a few lessons, Lance could feel them rubbing off on him. He enjoyed coming there now, he liked Joey a lot and she seemed nice and flexible about his schedule.

"That's it. Lance you got that one down good, see what I told you about practice."

"You can't get enough of it. I know, I guess your lessons did wear down on me."

"I'm glad, you're not a bad student. I really liked having you for one." Joey could sense them connecting.

"I'm not a bad one, just a horrible one." She chuckled.

"No, I've seen worse, you are good. Just need a little teaching about a few things." She smiled, Lance felt so drawn to her. Her beauty and mind, a truly beautiful person.

"Great, that boosted my self esteem." Joey laughed again.

"Listen, let's hit the showers early. You did good, now practice, practice..."

"Practice. I know." Joey stood up, and grabbed her side. "What's wrong."

"Nothing, one of the girls elbowed me, I didn't think it would hurt like this."

"Lemme see it." She pulled up her shirt and revealed a red and purple bruise, no dancer could do this.

"Are you sure it was her?"

"Yeah, maybe I hit it a couple times after. It'll be ok, I heal quick." Joey grabbed her stuff and headed to the bathroom. Lance grabbed his duffel bag and headed for his car. Joey looked at the bruise from the mirror. I'll leave him, soon, she thought. She opened the door and sounds of a piano filled her ears. She followed it, it rang clearly and beautiful. It was her favorite piece. It took her breath away. She went into what seemed like a recording room, a guy sat playing smoothly. She listened and watched his fingers move across the piano, making beautiful sounds. When he finished, she clapped for him. He turned around quick and smiled.

"I didn't know I had an audience." She smiled at him.

"It was beautiful."

"Thanks, I've been working on this piece forever."

"I like it a lot."

"Listen, maybe we could go for some coffee later. I need to break a little."

"No, I can't I really need to go home."

"Oh, well, I know rejection when I hear it, it's ok. Maybe some other time." He stood up and walked up to her. He stared deep in her almond eyes. He shook her hand, she felt dreamy as she stared in his light blue eyes.

"Right, some other time." She smiled and left, JC only thought that she is the most beautiful creature on this earth.

"JC, you're so silly at times." Joey rolled her eyes, JC escorted her to the dance room. They moved slowly, her arm and his, until they came to a stop.

"Well, this is my stop. I'll see you after class, sweaty and all." JC smiled and left Joey at the door. She dreamily opened it to a cross Lance.

"You're late."

"Sorry, I got tied up." She felt like she floated across the room, Lance noticed her acting strange.

"Let's start." Lance broke into the routine. She stared blankly at the wall thinking sweet thoughts until Lance interrupted.

"Sorry Lance, I'm just out of it today. I think I met someone." She smiled. Lance's heart dropped a mile down.

"Who?"

"Oh, no one, just some guy..." She wandered away again into that dream world.

"Listen, let's end class early, I have a meeting."

"Ok, see you tomorrow, this time I'll be punctual." Lance waved before he left. His mind raced about her meeting someone. He stood out the door and sadly thought his slim chance with her was becoming slimmer. He loved her gently and became disturbed by the thought of her loving someone else when he loved her more than possibly imaginable. He even stole her perfume bottle to smell her everyday, true it was wrong, but in love, it didn't matter. He decided to retire to the couch in the next room. He fell asleep and woke up to two people talking.

"JC, you're a little early." He recognized that sweet voice any where, it was Joey.

"Well, you know me, early bird catches the worm. So, let's head out."

"Ok, I have something important to ask you."

"Ok, ask me when you get there." Lance became full of rage, he knew he talked about her 24/7 and the guys all know he likes her. JC made the move on his girl and he became angry about that, but it clearly seemed she didn't like him. He sighed and drove home.

"JC, I was wondering if you knew about anything."

"No, he talks about you like crazy, I don't understand why he was harsh."

"That's sweet," She blushed. "I do like him a lot."

"Yeah, you guys only talk about each other, it's sad that you don't realize this."

"I was thinking about asking him out, but..."

"But you're afraid of something. What?"

"I'm not sure." She closed her eyes, JC watched her silently. He noticed she didn't touch her coffee, he knew something was up.

"I think you should talk to him, it's only right." He left some money on the table and went over to the studio. JC felt tense, when he turned on the lights, Lance stood there angrily.

"Lance, thank God, I have to tell you something." Lance was raged by JC.

"I can't believe you, you know I like her."

"That's what I need to talk about."

"No, it really bugs me that you are my friend, you know better."

"Lance, what are you talking about?"

"I know all about it."

"About what?"

"Don't play dumb with me."

"What if I'm not playing? Lance tell me."

"You little prick, you want me to tell you so you can rub it in my face."

"Again, what are you talking about?"

"There you go again, I can't believe you're making a move on Joey, you know I like her."

"Chill man, that's what I wanted to talk about. See I like her a lot and there's this problem..." Lance couldn't stand any longer, he jumped up and punched JC. JC felt his lip, it was gushing blood, he muttered a curse under his breath.

"Why the hell did you do that? Dammit Lance, you're all she talks about, I wanted you to know that. Did you think we were dating?" JC sunk back in the couch cradling his swelling wound.

"What, I'm all she talks about? You mean, you two aren't dating?"

"No, we're not dating, I wanted to tell you this because she's a little angry about you being rude today."

"Really? Dude, I'm sorry. Are you ok?"

"No, man, I'm bleeding from my lip, is that ok?"

"Sorry."

"Listen, go find her, talk. She's been having problems."

"Problems?"

"Go."

"Right." Lance got up and went straight to the car, he drove quickly to her apartment. He took a few minutes to knock, he needed to think about how he'd greet her.

"Hello?" A man opened the door.

"Is Joey there?" The man got angry.

"No, there's no Joey here. Go away." He slammed the door. Lance left quietly, something was wrong about all of it.

Lance waited for her to show up, she was supposed to be there an hour ago. Lance's cell phone made him jump.

"Hello?"

"Lance, it's Joey, I can't come today."
Her voice was very low.

"Why? What's wrong?"

"I can't. Bye."
She hung up. Lance let out a curse and left to his apartment. Joey didn't show up for the next three days, he knew something was wrong. Joey finally came but she was late.

"Hey Lance!" Her voice was hoarse. Lance saw the black eye and busted lip. "Oh about this, they never tell you dancing is a hazard to your health." She tried to make light of the situation.

"No, dancing didn't do this to you. Tell me." She stared deep in those green eyes. He was opening her up slowly. She broke down in tears.

"Kenny, he, he..." She just cried, Lance gathered her in his arms.

"Shh...Just cry, tell me later."

"He used to hit me and beg for my forgiveness, this was before I met you. He'd say I'm sorry and that he loved me, he just doesn't think when he does it. Then he started drinking more, he started hitting harder. Then the threats came, after he finished beating me, he'd threaten to kill me if I told anyone. When he saw me with JC talking, he went crazy. He just kept hitting, he kept hitting me. I stopped going to dance class because someone saw one of the bruises. I, I..." She started to cry again.

"We have to call the police."

"No, we can't, he'll get out and go after me. He'll kill me."

"Then we'll hire protection. You have to, he's a monster, you can't let this go on."

"But, but..." She pleaded, Lance shook his head.

"We'll go to the station, they'll believe you, it's going to be ok, I promise." He kissed her head and held her.

"Lance!!" Joey called from their room.

"I'm in the kitchen." She smelled him cooking the turkey.

"Merry Christmas sweetie." She pulled out a small box.

"Oh, here you go." He pulled out a small box too. Lance quickly removed the paper.

"Wow, a collar, is this supposed to mean..." Joey shook her head.

"Here boy." She called, a small Labrador puppy came bounding in.

"A dog, it's so cute. Open yours." She opened the box.

"A key chain, wow." She looked at it again.

"It goes to these." He pulled out some keys from his pocket. Her eyes got big.

"Lance..." He grabbed her hand and pulled her to the front door, he opened it. A red, new mustang convertible with a bow over the hood sat in the driveway.

"You devil."

"Tasmanian?" Joey smiled. "You better look in it." Joey gave him a suspicious look and opened the door. A small box laid inside. She opened it, it was a ring, an engagement ring.

"Would you marry a devil?" He said behind her.

"After this bribe, I would marry any guy who paid me up this well." He laughed. She pushed Lance into the car, he pulled her on his lap.

"Lance there's no room for both of us."

"We'll make room." He kissed her lips.

"I wish I got you something really nice."

"You're the best gift anyone could give me." Her eyes watered. To think I was afraid of this, she thought.
