**+Chapter+4+**
Justin and Melanie exited the restaurant, laughing. "I can't believe JC did that!" she laughed, disbelieving. "So what did he do through the whole concert?"
"He just kept performing with the fly down, revealing everything to the audience. I told him about it when the show was over and he almost died from embarrassment." Justin laughed.
"I feel so sorry for him." Melanie laughed. "So where are we going now?" she asked, getting into his classy BMW Z-3 roadster.
"It's a surprise." He whispered and put his index finger to his lips. He drove down an old highway, one that hasn't been used in years. He told Melanie to close her eyes as he came closer to the surprise. He stopped the car and helped her out of the car. Immediately Melanie could hear where they were. The sounds of the rushing waves and the smell of salt water in the air gave it away. He led her down the beach until he stopped and set her down on the soft sand. "Now open your eyes." he whispered.
She did and gasped at the breathtaking site in front of her. The moon cascaded a pool of light on top of the waves. The ocean always captivated her. It was a place for her to go and get away from it all. Whether it was school, friends, family, or just the daily life of being a teenager. This was the place to let it all go. Justin wrapped his arms around her slender waist and rested his chin on top of her hair. She cuddled into his chest and looked out at the waves as they rolled onto the beach with calming rhythm.
"Melanie?" Justin's voice whispered into the wind.
"Hmm?"
"Why do you like Mitchell so much if he is only using you?" he asked out of nowhere.
Melanie lifted her head up and looked at him strangely. "Why are you asking that question?"
"Because I want to know what makes you like him after what he is doing to you." He pressed. He wasn't going to let this subject go and that annoyed Melanie the most.
"Justin
" she sighed and got up. Her slender figure towered over him, standing in front of the moon. "I thought I told you that I didn't want to talk about this."
"Yes, but I want to know if you are telling me the truth. Do you really like him or are you just with him because he gives you some type of closure that I don't understand to see." He stood up towering over her. She looked up at him and sighed.
"I
I
oh please don't do this to me. I don't have to explain it to you." She snapped and started walking towards the car. Justin followed her. She stopped in her tracks and turned around. "I think we shouldn't do this anymore
when I'm around you, I get
all weird and I lose control of myself and I can't do that, I am seeing someone and you are trying to make me forget him, and you are doing such a damn good job of it, but I can't forget him because he is my boyfriend and I have an obligation to him." she began to ramble, silent tears rolling down her face. Justin approached her slowly, lifting his hand to wipe her tears away. She leaned toward his touch and smiled.
"I wish you would forget about him and realize that I can give you so much more than he could ever imagine giving you." He said softly. So soft that Melanie became weak in her knees and fell to the ground. Justin kneeled down beside her sobbing body and pulled her into a hug. "I see the hurt in your eyes. You can't hide it." he whispered.
Melanie shook her head and pushed him away. "I don't need advice from you or anyone. I can take care of myself. I got myself this far and I can get myself farther." She snapped and climbed into the car. Justin sighed and got in himself. There was no use in trying to convince her so he drove in silence to her house. He stopped in front of her house and looked at her.
"I'm sorry, Mel." He said apologetically. "I really am."
She didn't say anything and got out of the car, slamming the door behind her. She stormed into her house and closed the door without looking back. Justin blinked a couple of times and drove off. 'Just give her some time
that's all she needs.' He told himself.
Melanie ran up to her room in tears. She didn't know why she was crying, but it wouldn't stop. Was it because of Justin? Was it because she is with Mitchell? Confusion and regrets ran through her head all night. She wanted it to stop so that she could try and figure this all out on a clear mind. She tried to question her reasons for being with Mitchell, but they only led to one answer. Because she had a crush on him for so long and then he finally asks her out. Was it because of insecurity that she was with him? Or is it because he truly does like her? "Just get some sleep and figure this out in the morning." She told herself and got ready for bed.

Melanie sleepily made her way to her locker at school. The entire night, she was awake thinking of her mistakes and regrets to everything that has happened to her in the past few days. It was like being on an extremely fast ride with no stopping it. As she was gathering her books out of her locker, someone tapped her on the shoulder. Dreading that it was Mitchell, she turned around to see Jessica standing there looking at her strangely.
"You know
you are in so much shit with Mitchell?" she asked.
"What do you mean? I didn't do anything." She defended. Or did she do something.
Jessica handed her the magazine article and she read over it. 'Teen pop star, Justin Timberlake has found a new mysterious girl to sweep him off his feet. Who this girl is
no one knows.' The article read with a picture of her and Justin cuddling on the beach together. "Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god
what am I going to do?" she looked up at her friend. Her eyes frantically searching for an answer. "What am I going to tell Mitchell? I can't go out anymore, they know who I am."
"Just calm down and think about this rationally." Jessica assured her. "Break up with Mitchell and go out with Justin. You guys look cuter together anyway." She pointed out.
"I can't!" Melanie screamed. "Has he seen this yet?" she whispered.
"No, not that I know of. But he probably did from one of his friends or something." Jessica shrugged. "Oh yeah and there is something in the office for you. Someone dropped something off
a gift." She whispered, wiggling her eyebrows. "I'm going to class. Good luck." She waved and went down the hall to her class. Melanie looked down the halls for any sign of Mitchell. He was not in the halls, but that didn't mean he hasn't seen the article. She stuffed the magazine in her pocket and rushed to the office.
"Oh hi, Melanie. These are for you." Mrs. Marlin, the secretary said. Handing over a bundle of white daisies. Her mouth dropped to the floor at the site of the beautiful flowers. They were her favorite. She gathered the flowers in her arms and took in the scent of them. She looked at Mrs. Marlin and creased her brow in thought.
"Who sent these to me?" she asked. Mrs. Marlin smiled and pointed behind Melanie.
"I think that young man over there did." As she said that, Melanie spun around to come face to face with the towering figure she grown to like. Again, his hair was hidden under a ball cap and blue tinted sunglasses over his eyes.
"What are you doing?" she asked through clenched teeth. She dragged him out of the office and out of the school. "Did you see this?" she handed him the article. His eyes widened in shock.
"Oh
Melanie." He looked up from the article. "I had nothing to do with this
I promise."
"I know you didn't, but do you know what this means for my relationship with Mitchell? It's over!" she shouted. "I hope you are happy now, because you won."
"What do you mean this is my fault? We just went out on a "friendly" date and you are going to blame this on me?" he snapped back.
"I know you didn't have anything to do with the article, but you kept pushing me to break up with Mitchell. You kept telling me that he was no good when you absolutely know nothing about him! He is my boyfriend and I like him a lot!" she screamed, not so sure of herself. Seeing the hurt in his eyes, she regretted yelling at him like that.
"Okay
I guess this is it." he said sadly. "Goodbye, Melanie." He turned to leave, walking away from her. She stood in shock over his exit, but there was nothing she could do about it. She wanted to scream for him to come back, but something inside her told her not to go. She hated that side of her, keeping her from going after the one that could truly care for her. She dropped the flowers to the side, dangling them and walked back into the building as Justin sped off out of the parking lot. That was probably the last time she would ever get to see him and she regretted it.
"Hey Mel!" Mitchell's voice echoed in the halls. She turned around to face him, and realized he must have not seen the article yet from the smile on his face.
"Hey Mitch." She sighed. "I have a class to get to so what's up?"
"I saw the article, but I just want to know from you if this is true or not. If it is
I understand, but if it isn't I am going to be a happy guy." He looked into her turquoise eyes for answers. "Are you dating Justin Timberlake?"
"No, I'm not. The group came into my dad's station for an interview and since then we have been friends. I am not dating him, because I am with you." She smiled and kissed him lightly on the lips.
"Okay, just making sure. I trust you." He kissed her back and wrapped his arms around her waist. "Who are those from?" he gestured to the flowers. She forgot she still was holding them.
"Um, they were sent from my father." She lied. "My birthday is coming up you know." She laughed a little, giving him a hint.
"Yeah and I got you the best present." He smiled. "But you have to wait until your birthday to see it. I have to get to class, but remember that rain check we took last night." He waved and ran down the hall to his class. Melanie went back to her locker and stuffed the flowers in it. She slammed the locker shut and went to class; her mind full of confusion and regrets.
Mitchell caught up with Jessica after school to talk to her. "Hey Jessica, can we talk?"
"I suppose." She sighed. She never liked Mitchell and probably never will, because of the way he treats Melanie. He truly does use her in Jessica's eyes. "I have to get home, so this better be important." She crossed her arms over her chest.
"I am planning a surprise party for Melanie, and I want you to help me out. Will you?"
Jessica looked at him strangely. Realizing that maybe somewhere in that conceited head of his, there were true feelings for Melanie. She nodded and smiled. "I guess. What do you want me to do?"
"I want you to get her to go to that teen club
the Rave. I am reserving the entire club for her party and I want it to be special." He smiled. "Can you do that?"
"Piece of cake." She winked and walked out to her car. Mitchell smiled and walked to his car, getting his cell phone out and dialing a number.
"Hello?"
"Hey babe. I have it all planned and I am going to tell her Saturday night at her party." He grinned evilly. "Are you still coming?"
"Yeah of course. Why would I let up the best opportunity to see her face when you tell her." the voice laughed.
"Yeah see you then, later." He said and turned his phone off, and climbed into his car. He sped out of the parking lot to go home. |
