**+Chapter+1+**

Melanie rested her head on top the piles of papers on her desk. 'Exams are a bitch.' She complained. Her bedroom door clicked open and she shot up her head from her desk. She looked at her father and smiled. "Hey."

"I have some good news to tell you." He smiled, taking a seat next to her. "You know how the station got a big promotional gig last year?"

"Yeah what about it?" she looked at her father curiously.

"Well ever since then, we have been getting in a lot of celebrities to come and talk on the show." He paused and smiled. "Well I know how much you like *NSYNC..."

"WHAT!" Melanie jumped out of her chair and looked at her father, excited. "Are you telling me that...that...they are going to come on your show?"
"Yes." He nodded with a big grin forming across his face.

"OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD!" Melanie jumped up and down, hugging her father. "I can't believe this is happening."

"Well as I can see you are having trouble with school and all...how about you come into the station with me when they come and you can meet them."

"Oh thank you, daddy." She kissed him on the cheek. "Thank you so much."

"Your welcome, honey." He smiled and left her room. Melanie dashed for her phone to call her best friend, Jessica.

Her heart raced as she thought about the day that she was going to meet her favorite band. She couldn't believe that it was happening. To her...out of all people, it seemed so much like a dream. Nothing ever went right for Melanie. Yeah her family had a lot of money, but she wasn't happy with money. She wanted more than what money could buy, and that was something anyone would crave for. Love. She did have a boyfriend, but he only asked her out after she lost weight and suddenly became beautiful to his eyes. She wondered why she was with him, but ever since she started high school, she had a crush on him. And when he asked her out, she thought all her dreams came true. Her social life became noticeable and she became popular, but that never changed how she felt before she changed.

"Hello?" Jessica's voice answered into the phone.

"Hey Jes, guess what?" Melanie said excitedly into the phone. Jessica was never invited into the 'in' crowd, but that didn't stop Melanie from being friends with her. She was the first person that Melanie met when she moved to New York.

"What?" she asked. "What is so important that you had to wake me up in the middle of the night?"

"Well my dad just gave the most exciting news." Melanie paused. "Nsync is coming into his radio station to do an interview." She said excitedly.

"Oh my god! You're kidding." Jessica shrieked. "You aren't kidding?"

"No, why would I joke about something like this." Melanie smiled. "My dad said that I get to meet them." She said.

"Do you think you can get me an autograph from Lance...you know how much I like him." Jessica asked, innocently.

"Well of course I will." Melanie laughed. "I have to go now. Talk to you later."

"Bye." They both hung up and Melanie looked at the oversized poster hanging on her wall. Five sets of eyes stared back at her with smiles stretched across their faces. 'I can't believe that my dream is finally coming true.' She smiled, and got up to get ready for bed. Tomorrow was going to be a long and exciting day for her and she wanted to be ready for it.
**
Melanie and her father, Jeff walked down the long hallway in the radio station...Q100. Her heart was racing more then it ever has in her life. She was so nervous and excited all at the same time. 'What if they don't like me? What if they think I am some teenybopper?' thoughts ran through her mind as they neared the booth, where the group was sitting in. That day, she made sure she looked her best. Wearing her favorite pair of dirty washed jeans with a baby blue tank top and a pale yellow sweat jacket to go over it. Her auburn hair was naturally curly, resting on her back and flowing with every movement she made. Her turquoise eyes sparkled, accenting her shirt perfectly.

"Okay, honey. Just act like your own loving self and you don't have to worry about anything." Jeff advised. He opened the door, and there sitting on the couch was the group. Melanie's heart skipped a beat as she saw the five sets of eyes lock on her. She smiled shyly and made her way into the room. "Hey this is my daughter, Melanie. She is helping me out in the station today." Jeff greeted them, introducing Melanie to the guys. Her smiled never left her face as she silently greeted them, shaking each of their hands. They each gathered in her beauty. Justin especially observed her more then the others.

"Cat got your tongue?" The older one of the group observed.

Melanie looked at him and smiled. "No, actually I can talk." She spat back with the jokes. She knew he was the joker of the group and she was going to be careful with him.

"So how old are you?" Joey wondered.

"How old do I look?" she placed her hands on her hips and smiled at him.

"18...19, give or take." He answered, observing her. The rest of the group laughed at his answer.

"Sorry to burst your bubble, but I am only the innocent age of 16." She laughed as a shocked expression came over his face.

"Oh that's okay." He said, trying to brush off his embarrassment. Melanie's father entered the room and smiled.

"You hitting on my daughter Joey?" he pressed with a smile.

"No, actually...um..." he trailed off and didn't finish his sentence.

"Okay, you guys ready?" he asked. "Melanie, show them where they need to go." He instructed. He wasn't going to let Melanie just stand around without helping. That wasn't like him at all.

Melanie nodded and told the guys where to go. They did as they were told. Justin was the last to enter the room. He looked at her, smiling and winked in her direction. "Will you stay with us, while we are being interviewed?"

"Um sure." She answered, nervously. Justin definitely knew that he was her favorite out of the group. The way she all of a sudden became nervous when he spoke to her. He smiled and took her hand to join the group in the room. They were instructed to put on their headphones, and so did Melanie.

"Hello and good morning New York. We have some special guests with us today." Jeff started to introduce the group. "NSYNC is in the house, so give them a warm welcome..."

**+Chapter+2+**

The day was everything Melanie wished for. She got along with the group so well; it seemed as if they knew each other for years. She was especially beginning to realize that Justin is everything that she expected him to be. Sweet, charming, funny, and what everyone knew already...good looks.

"You know we are going to be in the city for a while. Did you want to hang out with us?" Justin asked her.

A bright smile registered on her face. "Yes I would love to." She nodded.

"Man, Justin. You asked her out already. I was so looking forward to asking her out." Chris pouted.

"In your dreams, grandpa." She teased, ruffling his hair. "There is this really cool go-kart racing place that just opened."

"All right let's go." Justin smiled and took her hand.

The group and Melanie got into the limo and drove to the new go-kart racetrack. Chris was always finding himself getting stuck or ramming into the haystacks. Melanie was in the lead, but Justin was very close behind. Lance and JC dropped out, because they were poor sports. Joey was busy flirting with some girl he met in the arcade. Melanie beat Justin in the race and they had to help Chris out of the haystack again.

"I'm hungry. Let's get something to eat." Melanie offered and went up to the food stand to order some lunch. Justin followed her while the rest of the group went to the arcade. After ordering their food, they sat down and ate.

"So...do you have a boyfriend?" Justin asked. Melanie almost choked on her burger.

"Um...actually...yes I do." She answered.

"You sure don't seem happy to admit it." he observed.

"Well...god I can't believe I am telling you this." She grunted. "His name is Mitchell and we have been going out for a year now. He is a senior this year and..."

"And?" Justin pressed. "Are you happy with him?"

Melanie looked at him shocked that he was asking her these questions, and they've only known each other a few hours. "Um...yes...I think." She wasn't so sure of herself. "Okay, the only reason I think I am with him is because of the crush that I had on him when I started high school. When I went into the 9th grade, my life was hell sorta speak."

"What do you mean, hell?" he asked, interested to know more about her.

"I was...overweight...fat...and people looked on the outside and didn't care to know the me inside. So I wanted to change that and so I did. I lost the weight and then Mitchell comes around and asks me out." She admitted everything that she has kept bottled up for so long. "You know...I never told anyone this before."

"Then I am thankful that you told me." He smiled. "Why are you with him if he just used you for your looks. That is no way for a guy to treat a girl. He should look on the inside before he judges the outside."

"Tell me about it, but I just didn't think about it I guess." She agreed. "He is very sweet to me, but I don't know what it is anymore. We seem to be getting farther apart from each other."

"Well why don't you do something about it and tell him how you feel. You shouldn't let these feelings stay bottled up." He advised. "Trust me...I know." He sighed.

"Oh really?" Melanie pressed. "Experience?"

"Yeah you could say that." He sighed. "That was in the past...now back to you." He changed the subject.

"Okay, but I want to know about you too. It's not fun to just know the stuff that is put in magazines. I want to know from you...the real you." She looked at him pleadingly. "But I will answer questions before I ask mine." She smiled.

"Okay, do you play sports for school?"

"Yeah, volleyball and soccer." She answered. "I also play basketball for my church. For some reason I have become very athletic since I lost weight." She laughed a little.

"That's great. Maybe we need to play some one on one sometime." He smiled.

"Yeah maybe." She sighed. "Okay ask."

"Okay, do you like to shop?" he wiggled his eyebrows at her. She laughed.

"What do I look like to you, because last time I checked I was a girl." She laughed. "Yes I love shopping. It's practically my life."

"Good, 'cause you can help me shop." He smiled.

"Okay, I got a question for you." She smirked. "I know this might get on your nerves, but I want to know the true story from your own mouth. What is up with you and Britney?"

Justin laughed. "Oh that one huh? I knew it was coming." He sighed, leaning back in the chair. "We dated a long time ago, before Nsync ever started. But now we are just friends...no more no less."

"Okay, good." Melanie sighed in relief. "I was kind of scared there for a minute." She laughed.

"Don't be..." he smiled. There was a moment of silence as they stared at each other.

"Hey J, are you ready to go?" JC yelled from the limo. Justin turned his head to JC and nodded. He turned back to Melanie and took her hand.

"Let's go." He smiled as he led her out of the building to the limo. They climbed in and were met by Chris' screeching voice. "Man, pipe it down some."

"What you don't like my singing?" he pouted his lips together.

"Not when you aren't on stage, Screech." Melanie commented. Chris nudged her and laughed.

"So that's my new nick name? Screech?"

"Yep, it suits you best." She laughed. Chris sneered and folded his arms over his chest. "Aw poor baby. Maybe if you would've hit puberty already I wouldn't call you that." Everyone laughed, including Chris.

"That one was good..." he laughed, ruffling her hair.

The limo stopped in front of Melanie's house. She started to climb out of the car, when a hand rested on her arm. She turned to see Justin smiling at her. "I'll walk you to your door." He said. Melanie nodded and got out, Justin following behind. She stood on her doorstep and looked up at Justin.

"Thanks for the very exciting and fun day." She smiled. "I had a lot of fun."

"Well I'm glad that you liked it." he whispered and leaned in to kiss her. She backed away and fumbled with her keys.

"Well...um...goodnight..." she shuttered, trying to unlock the door. Justin pulled her face to look at him. She did and felt her knees give way at that moment. "Justin...I'm seeing someone." Her voice was shaky.

"Yeah but he treats you like crap." He whispered and captured her lips with his. Melanie didn't know what to do, but let him kiss her. His lips were so soft and perfect. She wanted the kiss to last forever, but her mind got in the way. She pushed him away and opened her door.

"Goodnight, Justin." she said and closed the door. Justin sighed and walked back to the limo. The guys cheered as he climbed into the car.

"You go boy, now all you have to do is get her into bed and get arrested." Chris joked. Justin smacked his head and grunted.

"Leave me alone." He mumbled. "It was just a friend thing...nothing else." He said matter-of-factly.

"Yeah that's what I said when I met Christi." Joey commented. "Look where that got me."

"Another dead end relationship." Justin finished. "Don't worry about me, I know what I am doing."

"Oh? Then what are you doing, Curly?" JC cut in. "Because it sure did seem like you were trying to get under her pants to me." He looked at his fellow band mates for support. Lance nodded in agreement.

"I wasn't. I am trying to get her to break up with her boyfriend...that's all." Justin admitted.

"That sounds like the same thing to me." JC scolded. "Why do you want to do that?"

"Because he treats her like crap and she doesn't deserve it!" Justin snapped. "He only went out with her because she lost weight."

"Oh man, we didn't know." JC said quietly, ashamed that he snapped at Justin. "Sorry."

"Yeah whatever...just stop accusing me until you know all the facts." Justin snapped and looked out the tinted window.
