Materials: Fine sandpaper; gold paint; white notepad, leatherette; 1/16" and 1/8" bass wood.
Directions: Books, the elixir of learning are easy to make when you know how.
1. The glued side of a notepad becomes the back binding of the book. With a sharp single edge blade and steel edge ruler, cut thru thickness of pad to desired length and width you want. Cut leatherette to fit around book. Glue binding and first and last pages to leatherette. Other sides of notepad can become binding by applying white glue to side surfaces and allowing to dry well. Repeat with second application of glue.
2. Cut piece of bass wood to size of book for another method. Gently sand back of book into slight curvature and opposite side into a slight indentation. Cover with leatherette. Paint edges white or gold. Covers can be left plain or, using gold paint, lines or other trim can be added.
3. Make bookends using a pair of pennies mounted on a stand. The proper year on the pennies will help date your house.
