Comments:
Joseph served from Oct. 12 1862 to June 16 1865 or 2 years, 8 months and 4 days. He apparently spent from Feb 22 1863 thru June 1863 as a body guard to Gen. Stoneman. In July 30 1863 he was sent to the Hospital and was in and out until Feb 2, 1864 or 6 months later. He served as an orderly to the Quarter Master at Winchester VA from Dec 30 1864 thru April 1865. He was in the same Company and Regiment as his brother Charles. Based on his ages at enlistment and muster out, Joseph was born in between June 17 and Oct 11 1838. The "History of the Seventeenth Cavalry" shows the Muster Out date as August 7, 1865 from Co. H, 2nd Reg. Pro. Cav.
