My Great Grandfather was Jacob Abraham Simmers. He was nineteen years old when he went into the war in 1861 in Harrisonburg, Va.. He was captured by the Union army at Spotsilvania Court House May 12, 1864 taken prisoner of war. He was released on June 15, 1865 at Fort Delaware upon taking the Oath of Allegiance to the United States. He was from Linville, Va. I do have a copy of his military record that I got from the Archives in Washinton D.C. years ago. Abraham Simmers is the father of Jacob Abraham Simmers. I just don't know Abraham's middle name of where he was born. I do know that he was probably born about 1800 or 1803? His wife's name was Elizabeth Plumley. Jacob Abraham had brothers, named Harvey and Issac and I think John and about four or five sisters. He was the youngest of the family. If you need anymore Information just let me know.
