| William Martin Simmers, born 14 August 1847, Butler County PA. married 9 October 1847 in Butler Cty, PA.. AGAW-0201 Pittsburg. PA Discharged 10 October l862. Served 1st Maryland /Cavalry Company G. Listed in Maryland Soldirs of Civil War. Vol. I. died Clarksburg, Moniteau County, MO. My grandfather's name was Elmer 'Ellsworth Simmers. I always wondered where his name came from and somehow I found out (don't know where) that Elmer Ellsworth was the first soldier killed in the Cival War. Enlisted in the Cival War 25 August 1861, serving for the Union in Maryland. Mustered out October 10, 1862. And is listed in Maryland Soldiers of the Cival War. Vol.1. My notes tell me he was married to Mary A. (Gipson, Gibson, Potts ???). He had 4 sons: James, George Watson, Elmer Ellsworth born 29 March 1870, William Jonathan born 18 September 1868. I have is widow remarrying 23 October 1879, hence William Martin was deceased prior to that date. I do not know how William Martin came to be in Missouri. He settled in the area of Cooper County, near towns known as Clarksburg, Pisgah (no longer exists),Booneville. MO. I have a lists of the children and wives of James, George Watson, Elmer Ellsworth, William Jonathan also. I do not know the birth order of James, George etc. only Elmer and William.
