"Preacherman"(1971, Albert T. Viola)
7 out of 10 stars
Pretty good film. About a money making rule breaking fast walking smooth talking pastor of disastor ! Contrary to what Lloyd say, this film has the women with the biggest endowments (NOT Sizzle Beach). Just something I noticed. Some slow parts but overall a pretty good film with good camera work for the time.
"Rabid Grannies"(1988, Emmanuel Kervyn)
8 out of 10 stars
Evil old ladies who remind me of an old lady who lives across the street from me attack their house guests after their satanic nephew sends them a strange package that turns them into ......... RABID GRANNIES ! Beware the crappy rated R version, only accept the unrated directors cut ! Produced by the same guy who produced the far less enjoyable "Maniac Nurses Find Ecstasy".
"Redneck Zombies"(1987, Pericles Lewnes)
9 out of 10 stars
The special effects man for Toxie 2 and 3 made this classic. Shot on tape(not film, TAPE) this backwords tale of backwood rednecks is backed by a strong cast of wonderful actors and actresses. Pericles is an inspiration to all low budget filmmakers. The haliusination scene is a little slow, but the gore and humor is awesome ! A MUST SEE ! Also has a pretty good song in the opening credits.
"The Rowdy Girls"(1999, India Allen)
8 out of 10 stars.
Gene Simmon's girlfriend and Playboy Playmate Shannon Tweed co-stars with Beautiful and lovely cult movie heroin Julie Strain in this almost-true story explaining why the wild wild west was so wild. But listen up kiddies, this is no Will Smith cowboy film for kids. This is a tale of loose women with tight clothing. Although the speed slows down in the last 45 minutes, this is a rip-roaring good time. Unrated Director's Cut included an introduction from India Allen and Julie Strain as well as Julie's Troma Rap. Yeeeeeeee Haw !
"Scoring"(1977, Michael de Gaetano)
9 out of 10 stars
The single most underrated film in the Troma library. Out of print for years, this crowning jewel of the out-of-print collection. "Pistol" Pete Marovich stars in the story of a women's basketball team trying to make it big. If you see it, look for the scene with the venus fly trap.
"Scream Baby Scream" (1969, Joseph Adler)
3 out of 10 stars
Sucks, sucks, sucks. This poorly filmed crapfest has an intriging idea: a artist has been kidnaping art student and surgically reshapeing their face to make Picass-looking paintings of the macabre. The zoo halucination is just plain stupid and despite good acting and someone-decent low budget special effects, pass on this crap. Not even the unrated director's cut (which I viewed) could reshape this poor ink-blotch on the Troma display. This film had me only screaming to watch Nymphoid Barbarian in Dinosaur Hell.
"Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D."(1993, Lloyd Kaufman, Michael Herz)
10 out of 10 stars
Lethal sushi, heatseeking chopsticks, and as American as violence. When Harry Griswald(Rick Gianski) is giving the ancient power of Kabuki, he needs to stop the evil one from taking over the world. Kabukiman is aided by his trainer, the beautiful Lotus. Alot of good sight jokes and one-liners. Rumors of a Kabukiman 2 are surfacing so you better pick this up. Some of Troma's best acting. Plus the villan looks like the head of the MPAA so its fun to watch him die. Only get the director's cut.
"Splatter University" (1984, Richard W. Haines)
5 out of 10 stars
Average film where you discover the killer in the first 10 minutes. Written and directed by the former editor of Troma, and now technically not a Troma film (due to the fact that Richie split from Troma and bought back the rights) Troma used to distribute this. Basically the plot is that a killer is loose on a college campus. Thats it. Some unintentionaly humorous moments make this somewhat watchable. 79 minute version (to which I saw) was not at all gory, and yet there is a 78 minute R version. Skip this.
"Sizzle Beach U.S.A."(1986, Richard Brander)
1 out of 10 stars
A boring bore-fest which is a porno in disguise. The only noticable feature is that this is Kevin Costnor's first of many bad movies. Seriously, this sucks. The only upside is the preview for "Buttcrack" on the re-release.
"Squeeze Play"(1979, Lloyd Kaufman)
8 out of 10 stars
A rolling comedy about a women's softball team. Lots of great jokes including the final hilarious game. A suprise ending is also a treat. Most websites that review this give away one of the funniest parts, but I wont. Just look for the part where I player moons a woman. Not as good as Stuck On You.
Still worth seeing.
"Strangest Dreams: Invasion Of The Space Preachers"(1990, Daniel Boyd)
6 out of 10 stars
A romantic comedy. You hear that ? A friggen romantic comedy. Not at all as it seems. Its ok, but nothing worth buying. Worth seeing if everything else is checked out.
"The Stendahl Syndrome"(1999, Dario Argento)
7 out of 10 stars
The most amazing special effects in Troma's 25 year history. When a young women (Asia Argento) starts to feel extream pain and a faint weekness when she glances at artwork, she asks a perfessional for help. He tells her that she is victim to a sickness called the Stendahl Syndrome. What could make her position worse ? A rapist is following her from painting to painting. This film has some really dull and boring parts, but some very intense parts. Only setle for the uncut version. This IS (from what I've heard) Dario Argento's best work.
"Stuck On You!"(1982, Michael Herz, Lloyd Kaufman)
10 out of 10 stars
Professor Irwin Corey stars in this sexy comedy about palimony and the problems couples face since the beggining of time. Although this film was the least money-making of all Troma sexy-comedies, its by considered by many to be the funniest. Seriously, a must see. I highly reccomend this ! Not much gore, but lots of sex jokes and puns. Look for the most entertaining rabbi's since 2 Live Jews.
"Stuff Stephanie In The Incinerator"(1987, Don Nardo, Peter Jones)
2 out of 10 stars
Very little violence, very little enjoyabity. Skip this now. Really lame ending too.
Of course, i've only seen the PG-13 version, maybe the unrated one is better.
"The Suburbanators"(1995, Gary Burns)
8 out of 10 stars
I think the Bloodhound Gang said it best when they said "If you ain't from the suburbs, don't ever come to the suburbs because you wouldn't understand the suburbs!". This tale of a typical day in suburban life for three people showcases how difficult suburban life really is. Some parts are really dull , and its not a good film to watch with someone else because if they're talking you might miss some jokes. Worth renting.
"Surf Nazis Must Die!"(1987, Peter George)
8 out of 10 stars
The most popular Troma film that wasn't an in-house production. It takes place in the near future, where a major earthquake has destroyed the California coastline. An african American is killed by some surf nazis, and his big, bad, pistol packing Mama starts a war along the California beaches, taking revenge on every Nazi piece of trash she can find ! Totally tubular, dude ! This film offically put the sentence "Gimmie A Gun That Can Blow Up A Hokey's Head At Twenty Paces" in my vocabulary.
"Terror Firmer"(1999, Lloyd Kaufman)
9 out of 10 stars
This film is really REALLY screwed up ! How screwed up you say ? Mix Pink Flamingoes and Bloodsucking Freaks times 10 ! If you can stomach it, you'll love it. Lloyd Kaufman stars as Larry Benjamin, a blind director, who is struggling to make the next Troma movie. The only this standing in the way is a killer on the set. The entire cast are great. Featuring returning greats like Joe Fleishaker and Will Keenan as well as great new actresses including the lovly Reverend Jen (who I've met and let me tell you, she is really nice(as is Lloyd) and she signed my personal bootlegged copy of Terror Firmer) as well as Lloyd's real life daughter Charlotte (who, by the way, is truly a great actress. MUCH better than the brats in Beware: Children At Play) who I am looking forward to seeing in Toxic Avenger Part 4. Again , if you can stomach it, you'll love it. Also has cameoes by Flipp, The Lunachicks,Ron Jeremy, and Da Penis Monster (the last two not to be confused).Soundtrack includes Entombed, Flipp, The Lunachicks, and more.
"The Toxic Avenger"(1984, Michael Herz, Lloyd Kaufman)
10 out of 10 stars
My all time favorite Troma film. The absoulute best Troma film there is ! The most well known and for good reason. Melvin Junko was 98 lbs. of solid nerd until a practical joke left him wallowing in a barrel of toxic waste , transforming him into a hideously deformed creature of superhuman size and strength. Seriously , you need to see this.
"The Toxic Avenger Part II"(1989, Michael Herz, Lloyd Kaufman)
9 out of 10 stars
Toxie traveled to Japan to find his father, only to find that his father is an evil drug smuggling crime lord. More gore than the first, but not as enjoyable, however this is still one of my favorites ! Its hard to make a film as wonderful as Toxic Avenger, but this one comes pretty close. A must own !
"The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation Of Toxie"(1989 Michael Herz, Lloyd Kaufman)
7 out of 10 stars
Not as good as its precedors, but has some great parts ! The opening fight scene at a video store is one of my favorite Troma scenes ! The rest of it lasts a little bit long, but its kind of an epic as opposed to the other two which seemed more like tales. I wish there were only 4 levels of doom instead of six. Soon this will be re-released in a director's cut format which will rule! Only for hardcore Tromites. Shot simultaneously with Toxic Avenger Part 2. Also, Pat Kaufman (Lloyd's lovely wife) thought of the title.
"Toxic Crusaders: The Movie"(1996)
8 out of 10 stars
The best in Saturday morning cartoons, these well thought charectors wern't an advirtisment for toys, but intricate people in our lives. This (like Monster In The Closet) is one thats ok to watch with the kids. Although they changed the name of Toxie's girl AGAIN (From Sara, to Claire, to Yvonne)she is still enjoyable !
"Troma's War"(1988, Michael Herz, Lloyd Kaufman)
10 out of 10 stars
Lloyd calls this THE Troma Masterpiece. Don't accept the chopped up R-Rated version, get the uncut one ! When an airplane full of very diverse people crash on an island of elitist terrorist corps and The AIDS brigade (lead by Senior Sida) all conflict breaks loose. An action/horror/comedy from Troma delivers hundreds of enjoyable moments ! This film will either leave you with a different perspective of war, or screaming "AHH! I'VE GOT AIDS !" Director's cut contains an interesting interview with the stars of the film.
AKA: "1000 Ways To Die", "War".
"Tromeo & Juliet"(1996, Lloyd Kaufman)
10 out of 10 stars
Great script + great cast + great soundtrack = Masterpiece ! I absoulutly loved this film ! This beats the crap out of the Baz Luhrman version. Basically, its Romeo and Juliet retold in a non-sucky way ! Buy the soundtrack too ! Second best soundtrack (next to Decampitated) featuring Motorhead, The Icons, Unsane, Sublime, Ass Ponys, Supernova, and more ! Soundtrack highlighted by "Gizzards, Scrapple, and Tripe" by the New Duncan Imperials. NOTE: The screen writer and co-author of "All I Ever Needed To Know About Film Making I Learned From The Toxic Avenger" James Gunn's band The Icons have a pretty cool song on here (the one you hear during the nipple-piercing scene).
"Vegas In Space"(1991, Phillip R. Ford)
5 out of 10 stars
A group of astronauts take a pill and transform into women inorder to safe the planet Clitirus from total distruction. The whole cast are transvestites. And the spaceship looks like a dangleing cup. Very very bad film. I give them credit for catchy songs and originality though. The John Waters-esqe plot makes you hope he someday redoes this film into some non-crap. Pretty cool box art with Toxie in drag on the side.
"Waitress!"(1981, Lloyd Kaufman)
7 out of 10 stars
I was lucky enough to find a very old video store that carried the uncut version of this film back from its original release in 1981 ! It is much better than the chopped down R-Rated version. Basically, it tells a tale that shows when you get a waitress at a restaurant, you aren't just getting a waitress, you could be getting a columnist, or an actress, or God only knows ! Probably the least of the sexy comedies, still a great film. Look for an early appearance from Larry "Bud" Melman.
Zombie Island Massacre (1984, John N. Carter)
6 out of 10 stars
You know that clip from Julie Strain's "Troma Rap" where a stick hits the back of some guy's head and breaks ? That clip was from this movie. Basically, a group of passengers on vacation take this tour where, when their bus breaks down, they are all killed violently one-by-one. This film gets the IYH award for WORST EDITING OF ALL TIME ! A spear is thrown at a person, clearly misses, then in the next shot, it is magically in her chest and bleeding. Other than the poor editing, some good gore and 1 or 2 funny moments. Worth seeing because it is so hard to find. If you read Lloyd's book, he gives away the ending, but I wont incase you want to see this movie. Part of the "It's so bad its funny" series (Bugged, Curse Of The Cannibal Confederates etc.). If you want to see a real good violent zombie film, see Dead Alive.
These aren't all that I've seen , I'll add the rest soon. Feed the toxic beast !
