"Caddyshack"(1980, Harold Ramis)
9 out of 10 stars
Brilliant 80's comedy about the anarchy that happens at the Bushwood Country Club, where caddy O'Keefe is bucking to win the club's college scholarship. Wonderful and memorable (not to mention, quotable) performances by Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, Ted Knight, and Bill Murray. For golf antics on a campier level, see Troma's "Blades".
"Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death"(1989, J.F. Lawton)
8 out of 10 stars
Intelligent parody of your average "macho movie" about a "respected, middle-of-the-road feminist" and ethno historian named Dr. Hunt (played by the wonderful Shannon Tweed, "The Rowdy Girls", "Detroit Rock City"), who treks off into the dangerous Avocado jungle, just east of Los Angeles, to find out what happened to Dr. Kurtz who dissappeared there. Directed by the writer of "Pretty Woman", and "Under Siege", this intelligent bimbo flick that features a hilarious performance by a young Bill Maher still remains a classic in it's genre.
"Cecil B. Demented"(2000, John Waters)
9 out of 10 stars
A cult of filmmakers kidnap a big Hollywood star and force her to star in their underground film. Very well done, a film for people who love films! Multiple references to David Lynch, William Castle, and H.G. Lewis, among others.
"Chasing Amy"(1997, Kevin Smith)
8 out of 10 stars
This breakthrough comedy from the director of "Dogma" is about a young comic book writer who falls head-over-heels for a lesbian. Features a cameo from everyone's favorite productive slackers: Jay and Silent Bob.
"C.H.U.D."(1984, Douglas Cheek)
7 out of 10 stars
When something in the sewer turns innocent homeless people into Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers, all hell breaks loose! The presence of legit actors lifts this classic monster mash up a notch, but only slightly. Anchor Bay re-release transfer is fantastic.
"Clerks"(1993,Kevin Smith)
9 out of 10 stars. A witty lesson about life follows two slackers caught up in their everyday routine. Memorable and enjoyable, this cult hit spawned a short lived, but excellent, cartoon series and several imitations. Shot for $26,000, it also contains a certain scuzzy charm. Reccommended.
"A Clockwork Orange" (1971, Stanley Kubrick)
10 out of 10 stars
A sadistic punk with a taste for "a bit of the old ultraviolence" runs havoc in futuristic Britain. Based on the controversial novel, Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece of true psychological horror and dark humor is not to be missed by anyone who enjoys cinema. If you enjoyed "American Psycho", see this !
"Cry Baby" (1990, John Waters)
8 out of 10 stars
In his most mainstream work, John Waters brings us the classic battle between the squares and drapes in 1950's Baltimore. Johnny Depp and Ricki Lake give the best performances of their lives in this irresistible cult film for the whole family. Fans should check out John Waters's other mainstream piece: "Hairspray". |
