UPDATE: 9/14/02
Last month, I had the oppurtunity to have breakfast with Charles Kaufman while I was in San Diego at his bakery and cafe, the Bread & Cie. While I had some delicious cinnemon rolls and lemonade, we discussed his entire career, and had a great time!
Things I learned from spending an hour with Charles Kaufman:
- Independent filmmakers can make wonderful bakery goods.
- More work went into "Mother's Day"'s script than any other aspect of the film. This is why you find something new every time you watch it.
- Yes, it's true, he DID write the legendary "Princess Rainbow Bright at the San Diego Zoo"
- He did make an appearence in "Squeeze Play," while also writing the script and working the boom mic.
- Although he contacted Willie Mays to appear in "When Nature Calls," 'Classy' Freddy Blassie contacted HIM to appear in "W.N.C." after being such a huge fan of "Mother's Day."
- He really is one of the nicest people in the film/bakery business!
If any of you ever get to the San Diego area, I strongly urge you to check out the Bread & Cie at:
