The History of Incision
The birth of the band

Our band started off when Jezza and Azza decided to start their own band. Jezza had the pre-conceived the name for the band of "Antarctican Mafia" (nuff said!). Jezza and Azza then started to look for a bass player. They talked to Ram about it and he expressed interest in playing the bass (even though he had never played it before).

They then asked other people to play guitar for them so they could play a bigger variety of songs. They then found out that Haynzy played the guitar. At first he was reluctant to join but we coaxed him to join the band. For the first few practices we were lucky to have all four people turn up at Azza's house on the same day. The first few months were wasted stuffing around thinking: 'how cool is it to be in a band'. We also tried to do some improvisation but that didn't sound very good because Ram was bad (he's better now, we think!).

Thinking the band was complete, we started to try and think of names. Most of the names suggested were names of things in Azza's garage eg. York Toyota, DMX Percussion and stuff written on boxes. Eventually we came up with the name "Stoned Fruit" but then out of the blue someone said 'hey, how about incision?' and we completely forgot about "Stoned Fruit" and stuck with "Incision".

Now that we had the name, we started to get serious and try to write a song. We started with a lot of songs but we realised they were all really bad so we scrapped them. Then we had a good one and called it "Walrus". Ram thought that no one could sing to the music so to prove Ram wrong, Jezza started playing his bit and yelled "Walrus, walrus, walrus". We then wrote some real lyrics to it and then realised that we didn't want Jezza as our singer (if you hear him sing, you'll know why!).

Earlier we had asked people to sing for us but they had all said no. So we made a list of people that could possibly sing for us, but our expectations were low. Surprisingly, the first person we asked said yes. So from then on, Josh Brown was (and still is) the lead singer of "Incision". Josh thought that Walrus was a pretty stupid name for a song so he started working on it. We then think of a better name for it, so we stuck with "Untitled (Walrus)".

Then the scary moment came for Josh when they played and sang together. But to Josh's surprise, we actually sounded pretty mad. (Of course this is a very biased view from Josh). After we got Josh on board we started rearranging the Walrus song. He wrote a few more verses and a chorus and then we set him up. The microphone we originally set up for him went into Haynzys Fx pedal, so it would sound weird. We then perfected the Walrus song and went out to play cricket.

The next few practises we had were attempting to write a new song. I (Jezza) had been working on some songs of my own in my spare time and i played one of these starting riffs for Azza in music one day. He liked it and told me to show the others. They liked it sort of and so we worked on it for a bit. After changing it lots (especially one guitarist) writing lyrics and arranging it a few times we got it together. The new song was named "The Flight of the Sparrow". Hey! We DO NOT have a fetish for animals!
We had perfected two songs (and our bowling and batting!)

Then a few times at this stage we did the teenage male thing and went and got drunk a few times. During these times Ram talked like a rasta, Azza acted as Tallis with a stollie instead of a ball, Josh discovered that he has an iron stomach and takes more drinks than usual people to get drunk and Jezza (thats me) got baptised and attempted not to get drunk which was fun but not fun. But its all God's idea so it's all good.

At one of these parties (Josh's birthday), Josh got a microphone and amp so we were a close to being an absolute complete band. That band practice (12 march), we went and recorded some things onto a really cheap recorder and listened to it. It was shocking but its our first do it was ok.
