New York State Task Force On Alzheimer's Disease and Other Dementia
The Alzheimer's Disease and Other Dementia Task Force report and recommendations are directed toward those with Alzheimer's disease with the understanding that these recommendations will be applied to improving the care and treatment of all persons with dementia and their family caregivers.


New York State Association of Area Agencies on Aging
Provides general information about the New York State Association of Area Agencies on Aging.


CBVH New York State Department of Family Services' Commission for the Blind and Visually Handicapped (CBVH) Provides rehabilitation services to individuals who are legally blind and reside in New York State. CBVH programs include 1) Training for Employment 2) Business Enterprise Program 3) Programs for Older Adults 4) Programs for Children Services are coordinated by counselors and children consultants located in eight regional offices.


New York State Office of Advocate for Persons with Disabilities (OAPwD Is a systems advocacy agency for people with disabilities who's primary mission is to ensure that people with disabilities have every opportunity to be productive and participating citizens. It provides full access to emerging technology, access to up-to-date, comprehensive information on programs and services available to people with disabilities and their families. Implementation of progressive legislation protecting the equal rights of people with disabilities, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and inclusion in the mainstream of state policy development.


New York State Office of Aging. Provides information for "Older New Yorkers" and their families and those interested in providing services and opportunities in order to enrich the lives of older adults.


New York State Partnership for Long-Term Care Is a unique and innovative program that combines private long-term care insurance and Medicaid to help New Yorkers prepare financially for the possibility of needing nursing home or home care. The program allows New Yorkers to protect their assets while remaining eligible for Medicaid if their long-term care needs exceed the period covered by their private insurance policy.


School Tax Relief (STAR) The STAR plan will phase in school property tax cuts annually, cutting those taxes for most seniors by at least 45 percent, and for non-seniors by at least 27 percent by 2002.


Senior Citizens' Exemption New York State law gives local governments and public school districts the option of granting a reduction on the amount of property taxes paid by qualifying senior citizens. This is accomplished by reducing the assessed value of residential property owned by seniors by 50%.


Senior Citizen Hotlines 1-800-342-9871. This number provides information on programs and services for elderly New Yorkers. It also provides the address to your local Office of the Aging or local Social Service Office.


State Society on Aging On October 7th through the 9th the State Society on Aging (SSA) will hold its annual conference, entitled "Aging Comes Of Age: Building for the Next Generation", at the Desmond in Albany. SSA recently announced its call for papers and presentations. The conference will afford professionals, students, researchers and teachers with an excellent opportunity to share new information and ideas. Health Insurance Information Counseling and Assistance Program (HIICAP) This program provides health insurance counseling, assistance and information on Medicare, Medicaid, Medigap, long-term care insurance and other health insurance related concerns.


The Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage (EPIC) Program This is a state sponsored prescription plan for senior citizens.
