UNDER CONSTRUCTION!
This page is kind of a mess right now so bare with me.

I love listening to music and sometimes one of the songs remind me of a character from Harry Potter. If you find a song that reminds you of a character from J.K. Rowling's world, fill out the form below and I'll put it up on the site.

Sirius Black

Nobody Home
Pink Floyd
I've got a little black book with my poems in.
Got a bag with a toothbrush and a comb in.
When I'm a good dog they sometimes throw me a bone in.
I got elastic bands keeping my shoes on.
Got those swollen hand blues.
I've got thirteen channels of shit on the T.V. to choose from.
I've got electric light.
And I've got second sight.
I've got amazing powers of observation.
And that is how I know
When I try to get through
On the telephone to you
There will be nobody home.
I've got the obligatory Hendrix perm.
And the inevitable pinhole burns
All down the front of my favorite satin shirt.
I've got nicotine stains on my fingers.
I've got a silver spoon on a chain.
I've got a grand piano to prop up my mortal remains.
I've got wild staring eyes.
And I've got a strong urge to fly.
But I've got nowhere to fly to.
Ooooh, Babe when I pick up the phone
There's still nobody home.
I've got a pair of Gohills boots
And I've got fading roots.

This is a very pretty song right in the heart of Pink Floyd's The Wall CD. If you've never bought it yet, buy it now! Anyway, I thought this song basically caught the essence of Sirius. It talks about both Sirius and Pink (who The Wall was about) going through a midlife crisis. The character is very down, but what really caught my eye was the line about the dog. Here's my analysis:
I've got a little black book with my poems in.
Got a bag with a toothbrush and a comb in.
Funny how the first line is the hardest for me to visualize. Hmm... I can't think of anything real great, but it could symbolize his loneliness that he writes poems by himself. It kind of sounds like Sirius also for him to describe a toothbrush and a comb for some reason.
When I'm a good dog they sometimes throw me a bone in.
This line is such a good analysis of Sirius it's scary! Not only does it appear to refer to his animagus form, a dog, but his state as a human. Dumbledore throws him a bone in when he's been a good boy, or dog. Or in other words, not leaving #12 Grimmauld Place.
I got elastic bands keeping my shoes on.
Got those swollen hand blues.
I've got thirteen channels of shit on the T.V. to choose from.
I've got electric light.
Sirius is bored by himself at his yucky mother's house. A wizard doesn't watch t.v. but I think it just catches the essence of Sirius's boredom.
And I've got second sight.
I've got amazing powers of observation.
Sirius usually thinks very highly of himself. This could also symbolize that he thinks he knows best for Harry.
And that is how I know
When I try to get through
On the telephone to you
There will be nobody home.
Sirius just wants someone to talk to. He tries to talk to Harry but probably thinks Harry doesn't want to talk to him.
I've got the obligatory Hendrix perm.
And the inevitable pinhole burns
All down the front of my favorite satin shirt.
I've got nicotine stains on my fingers.
When Harry and the Weasleys arrive at Sirius' at Christmas in book 5, I remember a line that described Sirius with an alcohol smell like Mundungus Fletcher. Sirius is so lonely and bored that he's been drinking and hurting himself.
I've got a silver spoon on a chain.
I've got a grand piano to prop up my mortal remains.
He lives in a mansion yet he wishes he could be anywhere else.
I've got wild staring eyes.
Sirius is desribed as having hollow eyes.
And I've got a strong urge to fly.
But I've got nowhere to fly to.
Like I said before, Sirius wants to leave his mansion cage horrendously. He wants to fly away, but he doesn't have anywhere to go. I feel really sad for Sirius.
Ooooh, Babe when I pick up the phone
There's still nobody home.
Again, I think it capsures the essense of his loneliness. In Pink's case, it referred to his divorced wife. In Sirius' case it could well refer to Harry, except for the nickname 'babe', it fits.
I've got a pair of Gohills boots
And I've got fading roots.
Sirius is going to die. Thus, he's fading.

Sirius' Death

Wish You Were Here
Pink Floyd
So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange
a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl,
year after year,
running over the same old ground. What have we found?
The same old fears,
wish you were here.

This is honestly one of the most heart-wrenching songs I've ever heard. It is the title track of the Wish You Were Here album by Pink Floyd and it's one hell of a song. The whole cd was a dedication to Pink Floyd's founder and old lead, Syd Barrett. Syd went insane and had to leave the band. This was the first cd after The Dark Side of the Moon and God it's good. Anyway, I did not originally think of Sirius' death when I heard it but when I examined the lyrics more closely, I was amazed. With lines like: "they trade your heroes for ghosts", "A smile from a veil", "How I wish, how I wish you were here." God this is one great song. It almost makes the tears flow when I listen to it, it's so good. Unlike most of Pink Floyd's compositions, David Gilmour sung this instead of Roger Waters, and his crusty-like voice is so beautiful for this song, anyway, here is my analysis for this song:
So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
That is one great line my friends. When Harry first saw Sirius get hit he couldn't tell if he was dead. He didn't want to believe. Would you trade your heaven for your hell so quickly?
blue skies from pain.
He can't deny the pain when he realizes the truth. He trades his blue skies for pain. Not that he wasn't suffering before, but man, he suffering way more now.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
The way Sirius died was so cold. He died in his prime.
A smile from a veil?
Sirius died when he fell through the veil. He thought Sirius would stand back up smiling. However it didn't happen. I love this lyric too. Could you tell if someone was smiling at you if they were wearing a veil? Probably not, in less you know the person really, really well and know what they think is funny.
Do you think you can tell?
Harry couldn't.
And did they get you trade your heroes for ghosts?
Harry has traded his heroes for ghosts two times already. Lets hope his surviving heroes do better.
Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange
a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
yes, yes, yes, and yes
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
This is shout of longing for the old ways. Something that when they're gone you can only dream about and they can never return. If only Harry could have his godfather back.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl,
year after year,
Exclude the year after year part and you got yourself a perfect line. Both souls are lost at the moment.
running over the same old ground. What have we found?
Harry has found pain. Like the first lines suggest.
The same old fears,
wish you were here.
The ultimate trial for Harry is coming. Lets hope this tragedy prepared Harry in some weird way.

Neville Longbottum

The Fool On The Hill
The Beatles
Day after day
alone on a hill
the man with the foolish grin
is keeping perfectly still
but nobody wants to know him
they can see that he's just a fool
and he never gives an answer

But the fool on the hill
sees the sun going down
and the eyes in his head
see the world spinning round

Well on the way
head in a cloud
the man of a thousand voices
talking perfectly loud

But nobody ever hears him
or the sounds he appears to make
and he never seems to notice

But the fool on the hill
sees the sun going down
and the eyes in his head
see the world spinning round

And nobody seems to like him
they can tell what he wants to do
and he never shows his feelings

But the fool on the hill
sees the sun going down
and the eyes in his head
see the world spinning round

He never listens to them
he knows that they're the fools
they don't like him

The fool on the hill
sees the sun going down
and the eyes in his head
see the world spinning round

Ohhh

1967 Northern Songs Ltd.

I love this song. It seems to capsure Neville perfectly. Everyone refers to him as the fool, but we all know that Neville isn't the fool, the people who make fun of him are. He's a loner as well, if you will: alone on the hill. Nobody ever really listens to Neville either, not even Neville, calling himself nobody in OotP. Here's my analysis of this song:
Day after day alone on the hill,
Neville's a loner and by himself alot, I've noticed. Poor Neville, he is also picked last for things like in the DA practices.
The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still,
Neville has a round full face that could be considered foolish.
But nobody wants to know him,
Neville is kind of abused in this reguard by the other students.
They can see that he’s just a fool,
And he never gives an answer,
But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning around.
Neville sees things other people don't such as Lord Voldemort returning to power. He is one of the first to believe Harry about the Dark Lord reviving again.
Well on his way his head in a cloud,
The man of a thousand voices talking perfectly loud
But nobody ever hears him,
Or the sound he appears to make,
And he never seems to notice,
But the fool on the hill . . .
Nobody seems to like him
They can tell what he wants to do.
And he never shows his feelings,
But the fool on the hill . . .
He never listens to them
he knows that they're the fools
they don't like him
The fool on the hill
sees the sun going down
and the eyes in his head
see the world spinning round
