Snoop's real name is Calvin Broadus. He was born on October 20, 1972 in Long Beach, Cali. He hails from Cali. He got his nickname from his dad, who said he had a great resemblance to that "Snoopy" dog in the cartoon PEANUTS. AS a teen, Snoop was arrested for selling cocaine, and had jail time to serve for it. He started rapping with a group called 2-3-1 made up of Snoop, Warren G, and Nate Dogg. Warren G showed Dr.Dre Snoop, and so he signed Snoop to Death Row Records. His first solo CD was called "Doggy Style". He also appeared on a lot of Dre's CDs. Snoop was once up on trial for a murder shoot out, but that charge was dropped. After 2Pac Died, Dr.Dre left Death Row. Not long after, Snoop released "Tha Doggfather" without Dre. He dedicated this to his friend and co-worker 2Pac. The CEO of Death Row, Suge Knight, was in jail and wouldn't let Snoop release his CD "Doggumentary." He even made threats on his life. Snoop made appearances on Silkk's and Mystikal's albums and soon after Master P signed him to No Limit. Snoop's first No Limit CD was released in August and was called "The Game Is To Be Sold, Not To Be Told". It went platinum and hit #1 on the Billboard charts. He is also now a member of 2 groups on No Limit. One is "Tank Doggs" (C-Murder, Snoop, MAC, Fiend), and also the SS BOYZ (Snoop and Silkk). He is workin on his new CD called "Top Dogg" which will be released in 99'. Also, a Snoop greatest hits CD is due out in February. He is also workin with his 2 groups (Tank Dawgs and SS BOYZ)to release CD's in 99' also. Anotha rumor says snoop is starting his own record label Called "The Dogg Foundation" soon. But that is just a rumor. Snoop is now married, and has 2 children. He says that his goal is to make sure that his kids have somewhere to go, so they don't end up like Snoop did as a kid.
