You will need: non-rec skates preferably grind plates and/or grooves between the middle two wheels the pads of your choice wax if grinding a curb(parafin can be bought at your local grocery store in a box of blocks for about $2.00) and a rail or a curb Terms you need to know: grinding - its what you'll be doing stalling - jumping up on the curb/rail and locking into a position without actually moveing down the rail or curb(before trying to grind practice this first) locking in - locking your feet onto the curb/rail with your feet in the correct position and with curb/rail in the right grooves soul/soul foot - sometimes you grind on the outside soul of your boot, so instead of putting the rail/curb between your wheels, you put under your outside soul / when doing a trick in which your'e grinding on the soul of one of your feet that foot is known as your soul foot natural/unatural - some people prefer skating up to a curb or rail thats on their left, and some on their right. The one that you feel best doing is your natural side. And the side that is harder for you is yor unatural side. Doing and unatural grind is also refered to as doing a switched-stance grind. all of the position names - (described and illustrated below) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The positions: Trick(Other Names) - Variations(Other Names) Frontside - Royal/Pharfagneugen(Negative Royal)/Cowboy Backside - same as frontside Soul Slide - Soyal/AWOL/Over's/Alleyoop/Farside Mizou - Meow/Diana(Kind)/Over's/Alleyoop/Farside Acid - Over's/Alleyoop/Farside Pornstar - Over's/Alleyoop/Farside Tabernacle(Bullshit) - Darkslide/Backside Neighborhood - Backside X - Over's/Alleyoop/Farside Fastsoul/Makio - Han Solo(Alleyoop)/Fishbrain(Over)/Training Wheel Fastslide - Suislide/Backside Backslide - Wheelbarrow/Christ/Backside Unity(L.A.Grind) - Backside Farsides/Over's Alleyoops Tricks added by other people. Over Alleyoop Pornstar Getting on and off the rail/curb - NEW! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When grinding, your feet don't fit these pictures exactly, but they give basic idea of the grind. Frontside - Royal/Pharfagneugen(Negative Royal)/Cowboy Picture Description Trick - The first and most basic grind. You aproach the rail/curb and jump up onto it placing it between the two middle wheels of your skates. Try to hit both feet at the same time, and keep your legs apart. Variations: Royal - Like a frontside, except you ride on the outside of the frame on your back foot, preferably on the outside boot as well. Pharfagneugen(Negative Royal) - Opposite of royal, front foot is on outside frame and boot, so your leaning over forward. Cowboy - both feet are grinding on the outside of the frame. Variations: Same as frontside variations, except you do them with your back facing out, not in. Back to index.Back to Key. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Soul Slide - Soyal/AWOL/Over's/Alleyoop/Farside Picture Description Trick - Your back foot is souling, while your front foot is grinding normally. Try to hit both feet at the same time, don't step up your soul foot first. Keep your front foot out a little. Variations: Soyal - A normal soul with the non-souling foot riding on the outside boot, like a royal. Usually down on alleyoop souls because its easier. AWOL - Same as an alleyoop soyal except your souling foot is only resting on the toe of the boot, you do not put the heel down. Over's/Farside/Alleyoop - Possible names: Oversoul/Farside Soul/Alleyoop Soul/Over Alleyoop Soul/Farside Alleyoop Soul/Oversoyal/Farside Soyal/Alleyoop Soyal/Over Alleyoop Soyal/Farside Alleyoop Soyal/Farside AWOL Back to index.Back to Key. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mizou - Meow/Diana(Kind)/Over's/Alleyoop/Farside Picture Description Trick - Like a soul slide, except you pull your front foot to the back and grind normally with it. Lean towards your front foot so you don't fall over backwards. Variations: Meow - Like a regular mizou except your non-souling foot is resting on the outside boot like a royal. Diana(Kind) - Just a name for farside alleyoop mizou. Over's/Farside/Alleyoop - Possible names: Overmizou/Farside Mizou/Alleyoop Mizou/Over Alleyoop Mizou/Farside Alleyoop Mizou(Diana/Kind)/Overmeow/Farside Meow/Alleyoop Meow/Over Alleyoop Meow/Farside Alleyoop Meow Back to index.Back to Key. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Acid - Over's/Alleyoop/Farside Picture Description Trick - Like a soul slide, except your front toe points the opposite direction, so that your grinding on the outside of your frame instead of your inside. Try to keep your front foot out a little. Variations: Over's/Farside/Alleyoop - Possible Names: Overacid/Farside Acid/Alleyoop Acid/Over Alleyoop Acid/Farside Alleyoop Acid Back to index. Back to Key. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pornstar - Over's/Alleyoop/Farside Picture Description Trick - Like a mizou, except you turn your back foot's toe to point inside instead of out. Again keep your wieght forward. Variations: Over's/Farside/Alleyoop - Possible names: Overporn/Farside Porn/Alleyoop Porn/Over Alleyoop Porn/Farside Alleyoop Porn -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tabernacle(Bullshit) - Darkslide/Backside Picture Description Trick - Front foot is backside, while back foot is frontside. Variations: Darkslide - Instead of both feet being in normal backside and frontside position, they are in front and back royal position(resting on the outside boot). Backside - The same trick, except you do it with your back facing outward. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Neighborhood - Backside Picture Description Trick - Like a frontside, except you turn your back foot's toe to point in instead of out.(Front foot in frontside back foot is backside.) Variations: Backside - same trick, just do it with your back facing out. I imagine that you could rest your feet on your outside boots like a negative royal(pharfagneugen), but iv'e never heard of that or seen it attempted. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- X - Over's/Alleyoop/Farside Picture Description Trick - Like a pronstar, except your back foot is souling on the other side of the rail. Variations: Over's/Farside/Alleyoop - Possible names: Over-x/Farside x/Alleyoop x/Over Aleyoop x/Farside Alleyoop x -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fastsoul(Makio) - Han Solo(Alleyoop)/Fishbrain(Over)/Training Wheel Picture Description Trick - Like a soul and mizou, except you don't put your non-souling foot down, instead you grab it with your hand. Make sure your weight is directly above the rail, so that you'll ride longer. Variations: Han solo - name for an alleyoop makio. Fishbrain - name for a overmakio. Training wheel - a fishbrain with your non-grinding foot riding on one wheel on top of the curb instead of being grabbed Other possible names: Farside makio/Farside han solo/Alleyoop fishbrain -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fastslide - Suislide/Backside Picture Description Trick - Like a frontside, except you pull up your back foot and hold it. Very hard. Variations: Suislide - when you rest your foot on the outside boot, like a negative royal. Backside - just turned around doing it with the ohter foot. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Backslide - Wheelbarrow/Christ/Backside Picture Description Trick - Like a fastslide, except you pull up your front foot instead and lay your back foot down so that the boot and the frame rest on the rail. Learn a royal first, then this. Keep your weight forward. Variations: Wheelbarrow - instead of grabbing your non-grinding foot, you ride it on the curb on one wheel. Christ - instead of grabbing the other foot, rest it on the backsliding foot. Backside - just turn around and use the other foot. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unity(L.A.Grind) - Backside Picture Description Trick - Like a frontside except you switch feet. Your back foot becomes your front, and your front becomes your back. Your legs are crossed. Like doing two a backslide and a suislide at the same time. Variations: Backside - just turn around and do it backwards. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Farsides/Over's Picture Description (picture - Farside Soul) When you jump over the rail and then land the trick. Can be done with almost any trick. When done a curb, it s called an 'over' trick. (i.e. Oversoul, Overmizou, etc.) When doing an 'over' trick, you rest the foot that is supposed to be souling on the outside frame. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alleyoops When you spin and lock the trick in backwards. Can be done with most tricks. . -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Over alleyoop porn Picture Description You are doing an alleyoop pornstar which is a alleyoop miszou except your foot is turned in and riding on the outside edge.You are doing this but your frame is on top of the curb. . -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Getting on and off of the rail/curb can be done with style too. You can go from skating fakie and spin to a grind. You can just spin around going forward and hit a trick. If you spin the opposite direction that you spun to get on its called a rewind. Or you can just spin the same direction and land fakie or normal. When jumping far out onto a rail/curb, its called a disaster. And when you crush your balls, you have acomplished nutting yourself. |
