This page shares a new item each week from Corrie's writings.

I never met Corrie ten Boom, but have been moved and blessed by her life and writings, and that's why they're being shared with you. She was a precious saint and it will be wonderful to meet her in heaven and thank her in person. ---E.W.

Set Free

On the day which I thought was my last day, the Dutch girl who stood beside me asked, "How do you know all this that you have told me about Jesus?"

"I know it from the Bible," I answered.

The girl accepted the Lord Jesus as we stood together than morning. I thought she was the last one I would bring to the Lord, but that morning I was set free, not killed.

"...and, lo, I am with you always; even unto the end of the world. Amen." (Matt. 28:20)

Lord, we do not know what this life has in store for us, but be it good or bad, we are willing to be used by You. Use us until that moment comes when we go from service good to service bestwhen You begin to use us in glory.

Only Eighteen Inches

Today is the day of salvation. Some people miss heaven by only eighteen inches the distance between their heads and their hearts. One of the devil's most successful wiles is "Wait awhile." But we need to listen to God.

"For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." (Romans 10:10)

Lord, if You are not yet in my heart, but only in my head, please come down to my heart. fill it with Your life, through Your grace. Thank You, Lord Jesus.

To Prisoners

"In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us." (Romans 8:37)

In the concentration camp where I was imprisoned many years ago, sometimes bitterness and hatred tried to enter my heart when people were so cruel to my sister and me. Then I learned this prayer, a "thank you" for Romans 5:5.

"Thank You, Lord Jesus, that You have brought into my heart the love of God through the Holy Spirit, who is given to me. Thank You, Father, that Your love in me is victorious over the bitterness in me and cruelty around me."

After I prayed it, I experienced the miracle that there was no room for bitterness in my heart any more. Will you learn to pray that prayer too?

If you are a child of God, you have a great task in your prison. You are a representative of the Lord Jesus, the King of kings (2 Cor. 5:20). He will use you to win others for Christ. You can't? I can't either, but Jesus can.

The Bible says, "„mbe filled with the Spirit" (Eph. 5:18). If you give room in your life to the Holy Spirit, the He can work through you, making you the salt of the earth and a shining light in your prison.

Heaven

Think of stepping on shore and finding it heaven; taking hold of a hand and finding it God's; breathing new air and finding it celestial; feeling invigorated and finding it immortality; of passing through a tempest to a new and unknown ground; of waking up well and happy and finding it Home.

"But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him." (1 Cor. 2:9)

Lord, thank You that You have given us, Your children, eternal life here and now, and that we know that unspeakable joy is awaiting us.

God's Word Never Returns Void

In heaven you will see how the Lord has used that testimony, that word of comfort you gave today. God's Word never returns void.

When you enter the beautiful city,
And the saved all around you appear,
What joy when someone will tell you,
"It was you who invited me here."

"A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompense of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him." (Prov. 12:14)

Lord, we like to see results from our labor, but it is not necessary that we do. We trust You to complete the work You are dong in and through us.

What Death is Like to a Christian

A man and his son went over a long, narrow bridge. It was over a broad river, and the boy said, "Daddy, I am afraid. Do you see all that water down there?"

"Give me your hand, boy," the father said. The moment the boy felt his father's hand, he was not scared. In the evening they had to go back again, and this time it was pitch dark.

"Now I am more afraid than this morning!" the boy cried. The father took the little fellow in his arms. Immediately the boy fell asleep, to awaken the next day in his own bed. That is what death is like for the Christiam. He falls asleep and wakes up at Home.

Afraid of what?
To feel the Spirit's glad release.
To pass from pain to perfect peace,
The strife and strain of life to cease,
Afraid of that?

Afraid of what?
Afraid to see the Saviour's face,
To hear His welcom and to trace,
The glory gleams of wounds of grace,
Afraid of that?

"O DEATH, WHERE IS THY STING? O GRAVE, WHERE IS THY VICTORY?" (1 Cor. 15:55)

Humility

All of us have sinned and come short of the glory of God. No one can say, "I am good." The basis of trust is Jesus' finished work not what I have done but what He has done.

Nothing sets a person so far out of the devil's reach as humility.

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways: then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." (2 Chron. 7:14)

Lord, I am willing to humble myself.

We Are One

When Holland surrendered to Germany, Father and I walked in the street. We felt a great oneness with everybody around us. We were all together in the great suffering, humiliation, and defeat of our nation. Everybody talked with everybody else. I have never before or since experienced such oneness in that nation. It was a great blessing.

We will be that way in the millennium, but the oneness will not be in misery but in our communication with the Lord.

"Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God." (Rev. 21:3)

Lord Jesus, when we experience great closeness with our fellow men, that warmth and communication is only a foresite of what we have waiting in store for us. What a blessing to anticipate. Hallelujah!

God Has a Room for Me

I was at the end of my first week in America and practically at the end of my money. The clerk at the YMCA had told me I could not stay there another week. Where should she forward my mail?

"I don't know yet. God has a room for me but He has not told me where yet."

I could see by the look on her face that she was concerned about me. Then she handed me a piece of mail which she had overlooked. The letter was from a woman who heard me speak in New York. She was offering me the use of her son's room.

I gave the amazed clerk my new address after thanking God for His care.

"But my God shall supply all your need..." (Phil. 4:19)

Thank You, Lord, that we may know that our need is never greater than the Helper.

No Neutrality

There is no neutrality on the front lines of the battle between light and darkness. Walk only in the light. When a Christian shuns fellowship with other christians, the devil smiles. When he stops reading the Bible, the devil laughs. When he stops praying, the devil shouts for joy.

If thou but suffer God to guide thee,
And hope in Him through all thy ways,
He'll give thee strength, whate'er betide thee,
And bear thee thro' the evil days.
Who trusts in God's unchanging love
Builds on the rock that naught can move.
George Neumark

"...We ought to obey God rather than men." (Acts 5:29)

Forgive me, Lord, that I tried the detour of a compromise. Have Your own way, Lord. Hold over my being absolute sway.

No Excepts

If you lose yourself for Jesus' sake, you cannot hold out on anything. No "excepts," are accepted!

I said, "Let me walk in the fields."
He said, "No, walk in the town."
I said, "There are no flowers there."
He said, "No flowers, but a crown."
George MacDonald

"For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." (Matt. 6:21)

Lord Jesus, forgive my "excepts." I surrender anew and now totally. My mind and body may say I cannot, but with the help of the Holy Spirit, I can.

Our Mistakes

I once visited a weaver's school, where the students were making beautiful patterns. I asked, "When you make a mistake, must you cut it out and start from the beginning?"

A student said, "No. Our teacher is such a great artist that when me make a mistake, he uses it to improve the beauty of the pattern."

That is what the Lord does with our mistakes. He is the greatest artist but we must surrender. Surrender your blunders to the Lord. He can use them to make the pattern of your life more beautiful.

Faith came singing into my room,
And another guest took flight.
Grief, anxiety, fear and gloom,
Sped out into the night.
I wondered that such peace could be,
But Faith said gently, "Dont you see,
That they can never live with me?"
Elizabeth Cheney

"...thy faith has made thee whole." (Matt. 9:22)

Lord, we can be so depressed when we blunder. It is wonderful to know that our mistakes can be useful to You, because You are our Master Artist.

From Head to Foot

A prisoner told me, "I decided to follow Jesus, but politics, my car, power, and position came between me and God. This is judgement from God, that I am here."

The shelf behind the door,
Tear it down, throw it out,
Don't use it anymore.
For Jesus wants your dwelling,
From the ceiling to the floor.
He even wants that little shelf
You keep behind the door.

"And he left all, rose, and followed him." (Luke 5:28)

Lord, in Your love You want me 100 percent. I humble myself. Take me, Lord, from head to foot.

My Neighbor's Bible

The greatest place to bring the Gospel is to your own family. But until the family sees what you are talking about, they will never hear your words.

I am my neighbor's Bible,
He reads me when we meet,
Today he reads me in the house,
Tomorrow on the street.

He may be relative or friend,
Or slight acquaintance be,
He may not even know my name,

Yet he is reading me.

"...and you shall be witnesses unto me..." (Acts 1:8)

Lord, make me a testimony to my family and my neighbors. Take my life as Your channel. Help me to live a life that glorifies You in everything.

The Bible

The Bible is a book which has been written in order that God's people may see God's way through life. It is an extremely practical book.

Elijah had an attack of spiritual depression after his heroic effort on Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18, 19). He felt sorry for himself. What he really needed was sleep and food. God gave him both.

"And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not." (Ga. 6:9)

Lord, You know how tired I am. Will You give me a good night's rest and help me to discipline my diet? Show me if I have done my work in my own strendgth instead of working in the power of the Holy Spirit.

The Name of Jesus

Do you feel insecure when you talk to learned people about Jesus? They can ask such difficult questions! It is not your job to be wise. God has all the anwers, not man. Be content to be an open channel for the Spirit of God. Be obedient and He will give you what you need to be victorious.

God's children have power over Satan through the name of Jesus. As one lone policeman has the power to stop hundreds of vehicles, so one lone believer has the authority to stop Satan and his demons.

"Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name! (Luke 10:17RSV)

Lord, thank You that You gave us the Gospel, that the Gospel is for everyone, and that it has the answers for their questions and an abundance for their salvation. Lord, use us to share our riches with them; give us the fullness of Your Holy Spirit.

Death

I often looked death in the eye when I was a prisoner. When I saw the smoke go up from the crematorium I asked myself, "When will it be my turn to be killed?" I did not know that one week before they killed all the women my age I would be set free through a miracle of God and a blunder in the administration. When you look at death you see everything in such an uncomplicated way. I saw that the devil was strong, much stronger than I, but then I looked at Jesus. He was strong, much stronger than the devil. Together with Him, I was much stronger than the devil.

"But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." (1 Cor. 15:57)

Lord Jesus, thank You that when we are yokefellows with You, we stand on victoryo ground. Hallelujah!

Our Greatest Joy

We are children of God. We are set in the midst of the most glorious campaign into which man could ever enter. We are on the noblest road that the world has ever known. This life is a preparatory school, an antechamber of heaven. Our greatest joys are but the first fruits and the foretaste of the eternal joy that is coming.

"Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God." (Heb. 12:2)

Lord, keep me close to Your heart so that Your joy becomes my strength.

Great Faith?

Some people think that I have great faith, but that is not true. I do not have great faith I have faith in a great God! Jesus said that if we have faith no bigger than a mustard seed, it is sufficient to remove mountains. We understand that to mean that not quantity but quality is important. The joy is that the Holy Spirit is willing to bring faith into our hearts. His faith in us has power, just as a mustard seed is small but has power to bring forth fruit.

"The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed..." (Matt. 13:31)

Holy Spirit, may the faith You bring us blossom and be fruitful.

IS JESUS ABLE?

Do you ask, "Is Jesus Able?"

I can say, "Yes, and you have the victory through Him." Don't believe what your emotions tell you. Believe what God's Word tells you. Your emotions must be redeemed by Jesus.

Coward and wayward and weak,
I change with the changing sky.
Today so eager and brave,
Tomorrow not willing to try.
But He never gives in,
And we two will win,
Jesus and I.

"...the victory belongs to the Lord." (Prov. 21:31 RSV)

Lord, it is sometimes hard for us to see our victories, but we know that they are there. Thank You that Your Word tells us so clearly that together with You we stand on victory ground.
