Good-morning, class and welcome to History of Magic. I am Professor Beauxbatons, and will be educating you for the next year. As a student, I enjoyed History of Magic, however, I know that in today's day and age, most students dislike this class, with the exception of Hermione Granger. Therefore, I will try my hardest to make this class more enjoyable for every one of you.
Before we start, I'd like to tell you about any supplies you may need this year. Above all, you need the textbook, History of Magic by Carla Luna. You will also need parchment paper and quills. Wands are not needed in this class, therefore you may leave them in your dormitories.
We will begin this class by learning the history of Azkaban. Ah, now you smile. Azkaban was constructed nearly a century ago. It was to be used for torture and imprisonment of Dark wizards. Azkaban, the magic world's best guarded prison, is not guarded by simple wizards in robes and hats, but guarded by the cold and mysterious Dementors.
Dementors did not torture Dark wizards with the simple spells we still use in dueling today, but with something even worse. The Dementors forced them to see the prisoners horrible deeds, murder, the Dark Arts, and even worse...The Unforgivable spells - which we will get to later on in this year. They forced them to see their victim's pain, and even worse, to feel it.
Dementors can be easily spotted. They dress in black, hooded robes, which hide their face from view. Their hands are pail and thin. Dementors do not speak, nor do they walk. To move about, the Dementors glide an inch or two above the ground. |
