UPDATE; Being disabled isn't easy for any one.I know those that seem very happy but upon closer examination with them in close conversation, they still have a hidden sadness, but well covered by a happy mode.I get nearly the same comments ." there is no merit in being regretful. You will just run off any friends and make yourself totally miserable and life is way too short."
I'm the only person in my small community who is totally dependent on crutches and braces .But I actually enjoy being a bit special. Funny as it sounds people will know me for something .RET

You have heard the expression ,"You have to play the cards you are given."
that doesn't just apply to us that have serious disabilities , but to everyone
The socalled able bodied people I meet have more problems that we think. I used
to think only those with obvious disabilities had all the problems. Like some
of us on very limited incomes, spouse left you, frustration with getting about
because of strong springs on doors, master fatigue, and we could go on and on with
our MS problems which few outsiders know about.
But did you know the outsiders can make a huge list also.
There are those in the senior status with heart problems, other organs with are
malfuncting, financial problems, family problems, youngster problems, break ins.
And their list goes on and on.
I have often been told how easy I have it, since I have a good and lovable
wife.
more than enough money each month, you get about very good on your scooter chair, you have traveled to many places even in your wheelchair,
Your home fits you nicely, you go to plays, movies, ballgames whenever. And the list
they recite goes on and on.
All this is true, we all have to make the life we get work at top effency for
just us and nobody else.
No matter what your MS condition, you can find an interesting life style, that may
even strike up some envy in some others. In the beginning
of my MS over20 years ago. I had more ambition than I do now.
Friends and doctor say I have brought my life into the boundries
of my disability. Perhaps I have, but I still have my fun.
Recently a woman I know who is disabled.
When I asked her what she was going to do now,I got
this answer." Everyone thinks I can't drive because of these braces on my legs, but
my husband fixed up the car with hand controls and a scooter carrier on the rear.
I'm going to do some traveling. I guess nobody knew I could drive, but I can."
I see many seriously disabled having very good lives. The art world which I'm
in has hundreds. I admire a disabled person doing something with their lives
now more than when I was ablebodied 20 years ago. I guess it is a matter of better
communication between us and our free and open discussions that does this .
In closing I would like to make the following compairson.
If you have an income of $2000 a month and you need a vehicle you stick
to your budget You don't go out and buy as if you are Bill Gates.
like wise you work from where you sit or stand to find a satisfying life, you don't
try to immitate the Olympic runners in activities. If you do it right, you can

The general public preceives all of us obviously disabled differently.
In the first vision of me walking along with my legbraces and crutches the
might believe I can do vary little. But I know I can and I soon prove it.
Going to church one day , the usher asked me if he could carry my program
for me to my seat. It infurated me. The next Sunday I brought a cloth bag
filled with two books.Just to show I was more able than he thought.
In the two organizations I belong to I'm secretary to both.In the one we
are having a board meeting of officiers. The subject comes up about some
one member being able to work in our consession stand at the athletic field.
The comments go something like this. "He is in bad shape, he is even using a
cane now" "He is 67 and has said he is too old to work"
These two comments were about two different persons. The first one with the cane
after they discussed he a bit I just looked over at the wall where my crutches
were proped to the wall. One member caught me eyeing the crutches and said,
"But you are different you can do it" In the case of the second comment,
I
