| MS and the Blood Brain Barrier |
 |
| If we could know more about the ,"WHY" it wouldbe a cure. |
MS and the Blood Brain Barrier
There is wide spread theory that the weaken
blood brain barrier could cause an attack of
the T cells (lymphocytes) to turn on the nerve
cells in the brain or spinal chord and strip
the myelin sheath, the so called insolation
for the nerve cells. When this happens the
nerve message goes slower or not at all.
At the beginning the attack is in the
form of an inflammation, then afterwards if
untreated , there is a scar or plaque at that
point of nerve inflammation. THe use of steroids
is used to stop the inflammation before the
damage is done. but this doesn't always do the
trick.
We have as we all know various speeds that
MS tears through the body. With some it is at
a steady progression, with most of us fortunately
the damage is uneven and spotty and also takes
a much longer time for MS to pull some of us down.
But with this long pull down we have time
to intercede with other things that can slow
the progression or may be stop it. With drugs
like betaseron, avonex, copaxion we can greatly
slow the progression research has shown.
Also remissions are a time of rebuilding of
demyelated nerves. But before you believe that
the new drugs and remissions rates isn't the total
answer, and that you are are on the road to total
and perminent remission, STOP and concider
the rather new findings from research at the
Cleveland Clinic.
These findings say that nerve cells shrink and
die frequently after they have been repeatly attack.
While MS is still thought to be a disease caused
by a virus, it may be the virus or viruses that
cause the T cells to go bonkers.Even some MS people
with begnine MS will have progression over a
long period of time. This is due to nerve cells
slowly dying in their case.
In autopsies of the general population that
have examined the nerves and brain, large numbers
of people autopsied have shown some evidence of
demyelination, yet they never had any MS symptoms.
MS might be a blood barrier problem rather
than an autoimmmune disease.
In our childhood diseases such as measles, etc.
may have caused a weakening of the blood brain
barrier.
Why does a person "mend" in between attack
and have fewer ms disibalities than others that
go down fast?
Don't ask me I only work here. Actually nobody
really knows.
There could be a shortage of the right building
materials.A shortage of the right amount of
Fatty acids might be one of the keys. So the follow
the route to wellness is not to be ignored.
THE FOOD AND SUPPLIMENT ROLE in Wellness
Among the best thing you can eat if you are
an MS person, we find the following.
Fish, dark blue or purple fruit, such as
grapes, dark wine, blueberries, currents,and
fruits and veggies in general. select those
also rich in vitamin C as it is good as a
builder of tissue and blood vessel strength.
Some go as far as suggesting the taking of
grape seed extract pills. The advoiding of
red meat maybe desirable, but if you balance
it off with pleanty of fruits and veggies,
it maynot make a difference about eating
red meat in the total out come. Much research
has gone into the use of garlic and ginseng
as promoters of a good circulation system
aid.The garlic is also a known fender off
of virus attacks. Also lets not forget that
onions have a similar reputation as their
ability to fend off invaders.
Actually we need more reasearch on
all the foods and suppliments as fighters
of disease. Fortunately there seem to be
a start in this area of reasearch.
Just remember one last thing, that is
while good foods maybe our MS answer for
some it is not the answer for all.
MS is a very complicated disease. It has
been a riddle for over a century. It is
just now that real progress is being made
to stop the progression of the disease. As
I have said before if you are not taking
one of the interferons such as betaseron or
avonex, get with it if you can tolerate the
drugs and your insurance company will foot
the bill,These are the best things we MSer
have going at this point in time.

| Does MS fall toi ts victomes by chance? |
I have long acceped the idea that MS forcing its way into your body is a matter of chance. I take my own case and many others who were great athletic or were like myself loved the outdoors, went camping and hiking frequently,
Did a lot of hard physical work and had little to none of the poisons or pesticides near my body.I lived in a pristine community with a westerly wind coming my direction
with almost nil industral polutians in it.
I got in the summer a good sun tan as nearly all summer I did work outdoors Pleanty of vitamin D my way in the sun.
Although MS was in my extended family nothing closer than a first cousin on my Mom's side
had MS.
I also caught MS late in my middle years about age 45,and unfortuanatly the worst kind ,Primary progressive MS. What was the cause to me getting it has to this day remained a great mystery.
I must be a bit appreciately that I didn't have much of my teaching career inturrupted
and still finished my career with a very good pension and rather good life time medical benifits.
Fut the ironic thing is even today three of my doctors say my interior organs such as heart and lungs and the othe rlesser organs and glands are functing real good considering my PPMS in my body.
I'm still a driver of my own car and told i can travel to any or almost any part of teh world if I have the time and money to do it.So say my doctors. All you really need is a wheelchair under you to do any thing possible you take on.
