Give Yourself A Break Part 2

When I was first diagnosed with MS, it was as if
someone was telling me that I had a cold.
It was my husband who thought ahead to what
could happen.
He kept it to himself, and did not tell me.
I am a worrywart.

We were a newly married couple when I had
to have major surgery. As the bills came in,
I felt terrible.
Buying medical supplies was a necessity.
Both of my parents had Alzeimer's Disease.
That is something that alone, is hard for a
daughter or son to deal with, but my husband
had to deal with it now too, besides my illness.
It took time for me to learn how to deal with MS,
since some pain medications I was taking masked
many of the symptoms.
I did not find this out until I went to
a Pain Management Doctor.
Once I was off these medications Percocet
and Fioricet, MS symptoms bloomed.
It might sound strange, but I game the
Pain Management Doctor a big hug.
It was the first time I knew what I would
have to deal with.
The symptoms that went along with the name.
With the help of family and friends,
I would learn how to cope with it and enjoy
life at the same time.

GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK.
Thats what I needed to do for myself.
Blaming everything on myself was not the answer
to any of the problems. I had to say to myself,
calm down Eileen and stop myself from thinking
it was all my fault.
Give yourself a break and stop blaming everything
on yourself. You did not ask for MS, so just try
to go about your life the best you can.

It was easier than said, to try and live with it.
You had to take such and such medication now,
try another, up or lower the dosage and so on.
We all know that MS makes us very tired, and to
add to that, some of the medications made you
even more tired.
I was so tired all the time, my last name should
have been changed to sleepy. It seemed that I was
always sleeping.
I felt like Sleepy of the seven dwarfs.
I am sure each of you know what I am talking about.

I would get so upset, that I even asked my
husband if he wanted out of the marriage.
I loved him so much, but did not feel that he
should have to put up with so much.
Well, that was the last time I said that to him.
I thought he would shoot me.
Then I said we should sell my engagement ring,
and the roof of the house almost came off.
I really did not want either of these things.
Whether I was feeling sorry for myself or not,
I don't remember. It was, I knew, another time
to GIVE MYSELF A BREAK.

Whether or not it is MS, or something else
that gets us down, try to figure out what it
really is.
Don't blame yourself for things that you had no part in.
Rather try to take the time and figure out what
really is getting to you. Talk to other people who
are in the same boat as you are, but, don't forget
TO GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK.
You will feel better about yourself and life
in general.
A good place to go is the Anything MS Board
on the net. Here everyone is in the same situation
and more than willing to help out if they can.
So hang in there OK? Last but not least, remember
to GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK.
