I have seen some of the people in this area
where I live start to accept the Rocker shoe.
Some are hesitent at first because they consider
the cost too high.Do you want to walk much
easier, or would you like to continue to struggle?
I have been a believer of them from the
first time I wore them in 1990.Being a
Floridian and also trying to keep myself
as cool as possible, I have three pairs of
the toeless variety.
The physics of why the Rocker shoes work
1. The heel is two inches high,this corrects
the usual MS bad posture and lines up the
spine better.
2.The sole is solid wood,which allows the
foot to move as a single unit. With MS and
other foot problems, you have a loss of
control of all the complex movements the
normal ankle has to make in taking a step.
3. There is the pivitial point on the
bottom of the wooden sole, that helps
your foot to roll foreward and save you
energy in the motion.
4. The lacing over the front of the shoe
allows the shoe to fit loose or tight to
your fit.
5. The back strap around your heel is not
closed so that your foot does have some
limit to the movement in the roll .
6. Carolyn Clawson has spent a lifetime
refining the shoes. She had at one time
some physical therapist and other physics
of the foot motion,study the gait of MS
patients with and without the rocker shoe.
I have seen the film of those motion
studies. There are people in that film
that they can hardly move even with
AFOs and Canadian Crutches. I know the
feeling.My legs have gotten to the place
where regular shoes can be tolerated
for only very limited distances, usually
from the back of our house to the front
and then back, by that time my gait has
gotten worse and I'm tiring fast.
