FAQ

Nihon Goshin Ryu Ju Jutsu Kai
Ju Ji Gatame A Goshin Jutsu Technique

1. The aims of Nihon Goshin Ryu Ju Jutsu Kai are the study and practice of both traditional and modern Japanese Ju Jutsu for the purposes of self defence, self protection and the promotion of health and cultural awareness. Our practice will be in the true spirit (Shin) of Nihon Gendai Goshin Budo.

2. Japanese modern Ju Jutsu is defined as those styles of Japanese martial arts that emphasise empty handed grappling techniques and some weaponry in their curriculum and which have emerged since the Meiji restoration. Such styles may be based on parts of the curriculum of much earlier Japanese combative forms which included some empty handed techniques as part of their curriculum. Styles, such as these, which are practised in a traditional Japanese manner will be classified as Nihon Gendai Goshin Budo.

Note:
Aikido, Judo, Daito Ryu, Hakko Ryu and Danzan Ryu are all examples of traditional and Modern Japanese Ju Jutsu that make up what is known as Nihon Gendai Goshin Budo.

3. The study and practice of Nihon Goshin Ryu Ju Jutsu Kai will be in accordance with the spirit of Nihon Gendai Goshin Budo.

The spirit of Nihon Gendai Goshin Budo refers to the usage of Japanese terminology and etiquette during practise and a respect for Japanese martial culture as well as an emphasis on martial arts techniques originally developed in Japan.
