| A Redwall television series has been co-produced by Nelvana of Canada 65%) and Alphanim of France (35%). It consists of 13 half hour episodes which recount the original Redwall story and remain faithful to the book. The original artwork used as models for the animators has been painted by Fangorn (aka Chris Baker), the artist who provided most of the book covers for the British editions. European style animation was used, similar to the television shows Rupert and Babar which are shown on CBS and Nickelodeon in the USA. Teletoon, Canada's premier animation station, presented a "teaser preview" of the first four episodes in May. The full Redwall television series will begin airing in Canada Wednesday, September 8th, in both English and French on Teletoon. There will be one episode shown each Wednesday evening. Then the next three episodes will be shown Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings. Double-check your TV schedule for times, because the times posted on the Teletoon Redwall Web Site are Montréal, Toronto, and Vancouver times. The TV series will be shown in France the thirteen days just before Christmas 1999, one episode per day. Though the plan is to show the series in the United States, no firm arrangements have yet been made. Nelvana distributes its shows to 160 countries, so eventually the the Redwall TV series will be distributed worldwide. It will also be available on video. Brian Jacques has begun writing the screenplay for the first Redwall movie, "Martin the Warrior". He will ensure that the integrity of the book is retained, and the values of Redwall are maintained. European-style animation will be used, again with the artwork of Fangorn as models for the animators. |
