Welcome to the Grays Athletic match reports page
v Bromley league home 5-0
A startling display by the Blues which didn't
materialise until the second half, to brush away
Bromley with ease.Cox was the hero of the night
as he helped himself to a hatrick, assisted by
Vinney John and Risley.
v Basildon Utd FAC home 7-1
Grays attack with 12 goals in two matches proved
yet again what a force they are, John netted 4,
whilsy Hayzleden,Nesling, and Risley rowed in
with a goal appeice.
v Maidenhead league away 1-3
Pressing forward looking for the equaliser, is
how United on the break completed this match in the
last few minutes with the third goal.
Grays Athletic outplayed Maidenhead for long periods
and looked destined to leave with at least a point
v Whyteleafe league away 5-0
A terrific display but in the first 20 minutes the
Blues were under the cosh,John scored the opener
from the spot after Risleys shot was handled on
the line, and 2 minutes later Hazle took the ball
in the Grays penalty area passed 40 yds to Walker
who burst down the right crossing to John who
put it away,Walker,Cox, and Hayzleden completed
the rout
v Barking FAC away 1-0
Only one winner in this game as Grays were well
ahead of Barking, on a very uneven surface.
The winning goal came from Hazle rising above the
defence to score.
v Slough Town ILC away 0-1
Despite outplaying the Premier League side a goal
in the dying minutes gave Town a next round tie.
v Hendon FAC away 0-2
Blues outplayed Hendon in the first 30 minutes,
but a goal in the top corner split the Grays Ath
spirit, and as the home side gained control a
second goal was conceeded.
v Romford league home 2-1
A bruising Essex battle in which Grays were never
really troubled by Romford.
The opening goal came from Risley on 8 minutes,
a beautiful pin point header edged it way into
the top right corner of the net, past a flapping
Butterfill in the Romford goal.
On 16 minutes, John was put through to score his
10th of the season.
Although Romford picked up the pace a little in the
second half, and scored midway, you never felt they
would get a second chance.
This win pushes Grays Athletic into the top 5.

action tackle from Blues v Ronford
v Bishops' Stortford away 1-0
A hard earned but deserved win as Grays controlled
most of the match, a Vinney John goal seperating
the two sides.
v Leatherhead home 2-2
On a warm sunny afternoon Grays Athletic once again
started well with a beautifully taken goal on 13
minutes by wallace, but then again set back allowing
Leatherhead to come back-equalising on 52 minutes,
then going ahead on 70.
Athletic however forced forward, and grabbed the draw
with barely a couple of minutes to go, when John
headed in a pin point cross.

(last minute equaliser Vinny John)
v Barking ETT home 1-2
A much depleted squad fell to a lively Barking side
looking for revenge for their FA Cup defeat.
v Uxbridge away 1-0
How it was only 1-0 at half time is amazing, as the
Blues dominated so much. The second period saw a
come back from Uxbridge and an equaliser against
the flow of play.
v Barton Rovers FMC away 3-0
Again a much changed side, but this time a little
more determination and Blues won well at 3-0.
Scorers John 2, and Wilson 1.
v Bedford Town home 3-0
This was supposed to be a close encounter, well
in the first half it was with the only chances
from Grays as Hazle, and Wallace went close. The
second half was all Athletic as Grays opened the
scoring on 56 minutes a Hazle effort, then again
John got into a box position and this time head
a superb second goal on 61 minutes. Wilson ended
the contest on 75 minutes with a screaming 25yd
shot that suprised everyone.

action Grays Athletic v Bedford T
v Worthing home 3-1
A confident and classy win from Athletic who with
this 3-1 win rise to third place in the Isthmian
League.
v Croydon away 0-0
This was never going to be an easy match for the blues
against second placed Croydon, but Grays Athletic
cheered on by their loud, and enthusiastic support
played a good containing game, and came away with a
well deserved point to keep the promotion challange
on.
v Hendon FA Trophy away 0-1
How to out play a Premier side who last week out
played Blackpool in the FA Cup part 1.
Yes the blues with their ferocious band of fans
loud in cheering on their hero's, so totally out
did Hendon.
Hendons goal a move involving some 6 players was
well taken on 27 minutes, and that was it from them
apart from a couple of chances saved, Grays moved
sweetly, but just lacked the final touch, and
ended loosing this so unjustly.

attempt on Goal v Hendon FA Trophy
v Yeading home 1-1

A slow start by Blues lead to an opening goal by Ding
on 13 minutes, but Grays Athletic soon gained control
of the game and equalised after a move on the left saw
an unmarked Wallace in the middle, recieve the ball
control and hammer the goal for a 1-1 scoreline.
The second half was more even but neither side were
able to break the deadlock.
v Braintree Town away 1-0
One Riley goal after some 55 minutes was all it took to
take all three points in this gigantic local Essex derby
which sustains blues challange for promotion.
v Harlow Town home 2-2
A 2 goal start from Wallace looked to be setting Grays
on to another win but Harlow dug in and scored two to take
a share of the points, two players were also sent off as this
match developed into a scrappy affair later on.
v Wealdstone away 2-0
Goals by Risley 2 minutes, and Wallace 15 minutes sewed up
the points early for Grays as Wealdstone never looked like
salvaging anything in this game.
Grays move up to 5th.
v Purfleet home FMC 3-4 aet
A hard graft match between two well matched sides,it was
Grays that had the first shot as Reilly hit the opener on
the stroke of half time.
Purfleet came back early in part two to bring it back to
1-1,then blues struck again as Hazle hammered in 2-1.
Purfleet unfinished however came back again to level and
send the game into extra time.
Grays Athletic went 3-2 up as Wilson forced home a goal,
but once again Purfleet went all out for attack, as goals
8 and 3 minutes from the end won it 4-3 for the Premier
side.
v Maidenhead Utd home 2-2

action v Maidenhead Utd
An explosive start by Blues, and an early goal from a Wallace
header directed perfectly past a flaying Ormshaw in the United
goal on 12 minutes. The lead was short lived as Maidenhead
began to pick up and equalised from a header scored by
Channell. The game was end to end from then with both sides
looking for the way through. It took an individual spark from
Wallace again to put Blues 2-1 up on 45 minutes.
The second half was as even as the first and on 51 minutes
Creighton was put through and levelled ,and thats how it stayed.
v Barton Rovers away 2-0
Three matches, three wins, and nine goals oh how Rovers have
the blues, this match a two goal victory despite having Wilson
sent off for loosing his rag 13 minutes from the end,and then
Wallace sent off on 82 minutes both costly sendings off in the
run in.Nevertheless a competent win in which keeper Brooks
had nothing to do in the Blues goal. The first goal a 33 minute
penalty by Hazelden the second on 52 minutes another
superb run by full debutant Wright and a cross to Wallace for
the goal.
v Staines Town home 1-0
The Blues in 3rd verses Town jiont first proved to be a sticky
but deserved Grays Athletic win which with Thames defeat against
Chertsey 2-0 sees the Blues top tonight.
The first 45 minutes an almost total control show by Blues but no
score, the second half more even and a 70th minute effort made
by Wilson,,a ball to Wallace who fell in the area, with Risley
onto the loose ball to ram in the winner.,to send Grays Athletic
top of the First Division.
v Worthing away 1-1
Two points dropped rather than a point won according to Chris
the blues boss.
It was Grays that started the brighter and chances came and went
especially to Hazel with a header and shot against the bar,the
suprise was that it took until 55 minutes for blues to open the scoring
Rielly opening the defence with a penetrating run and cross for
Nesling to head home.
That woke Worthing up and within 10 minutes they had two chances
one at an open goal after Brookes was caught out of position, then
on 77 minutes,Brooks was adjudged to have pulled down Carrington
after a miskick against Rice rebounded to a lurking Carrington.
Despite it being well away from the goal, and outside the area, the
referee sent off Brooks, and pointed to the spot.
Moseley superb on the field took over in goal, saving the Rice penalty
which Funnell was first to to put the ball accross the face of the goal
for James to bang in.
despite that Grays pressed on looking for another goal but to no
avail.
v Oxford City home 1-0
A battling performance by both sides in this even match on a near
perfect surface saw Grays take the points curtosy of a fine Nesling
effort on 46 minutes.
Grays could of added late in the match missing 2 goal opportunities
and the Oxford keeper saving a penalty.
However this win keeps blues at the head of the table.
v Leyton Pennant away 3-0
very much a one sided match in which Blues outplayed their
hosts in every department, allthough it took until the
late first half for Wright to open his Grays account after
a Snowshill shot was parried by the Pennant keeper, a few
minutes before that a thundering 35 yd shot from Mosely
was only just scrambled away.
In the second period after 50 minutes a 30 yd free kick
from Mosely bobbled infront of the Pennant keeper and
in to put Blues 2-0 up, the third came on the hour when
a Nesling corner came to Dickinson and he hammered the
third to secure the top position.
v Leatherhead away 3-1
Grays continued their excellent away form with an easy
win at Leatherhead.
Nesling opened up with a penalty and allthough The Greens
pulled it back to 1-1 the win never looked in doubt.
Nesling provided the cross for Wright to score after 55
minutes, and the third came when Leatherhead had pushed
up, the ball broke yo Wallace and he faced with only the
keeper slotted in his 10th of the season, keeping Blues
top of the league.
v Bognor Regis Town home 0-0
A hard battling match in which neither side looked like
gaining a win, Regis came closest when a shot hit the
underside of the bar and bounced out, but 0-0 was a fair
score, and Blues remain top.
v Bishops' Stortford home 1-3

Vinny John ex Grays being watched in this shot.
Blues leading scorer still,he ran us ragged.
With Tucker Kimble, and John all ex players in the Yellows
lone up, it was no suprise that the Bishops confidence
was high, they were the more determined, and were faster
to the ball, and it was of no shock when Paul rammed in the
opener on 9 minutes.Blues fought back but keeper Tucker was
superb in goal, and on 42 minutes a John cross saw ex Arsenal
player Hayes ram in past Brooks.
The second half saw Tucker save on a number of occassions,
and Hayes get in on another John cross to put Bishops 3-0
up. Still Grays fought on and finally Mosely managed to
beat Tucker from close range on 80 minutes.
v Romford away 1-0
Romford playing back at Sungate were hoping to impress
their fans, but it rather backfired as travelling Blues
once again rampaged to a win,the only suprise being how
it was only 1-0,a Hazle effort on 35 minutes.
If domination counted surely 5 or 6 would of been a
fairer result.
This win which Grays can say ensures they remain
undefeated in the league since September 11th ensures
they remain second.
v Bedford Town away 1-1
The long away run continues as Blues grabbed a last minute
equaliser with a Mosley free kick to carry on the promotion
push.Bedford opened the scoring on 48 minutes when a corner
was headed on by Williams for Jaggard to tap in, but Blues
came on to battle well and deserve the point.
v Uxbridge home 1-0
The home match saw a tight game in which midfielders were
the stars, Brroks in the Blues goal having allmost an
action free afternoon, and his opposite number only
making half a dozen saves.
It took a Snowshill shot to shock the Uxbridge defence
into life and then allmost on half time Hayzelden did
a superb control act in the box, and hammered a left
into the Uxbridge net for three points and a clear run
for promotion.
v Yeading away 1-1
Another point gathered in the final promotion push.
A match in which both sides played to win sat Yeading
go in 1-0 up at the interval, however Blues pushed up
in the second half and the equaliser come from Wilson
after 72 minutes.
v Leyton Pennant home 4-0
Rearranged from Saturday, this was a Blues walkabout.
As early as the first minute efforts came in from Wright
and Wallace sharpeness was the by-word here and on 10
minutes a pinpoint cross was headed over by Hazle, but
shortly later another exact cross this time from Wright
after pulling the ball back from the touchline, left
Hazle free to put blues 1-0 up.
Wallace and Wright continued to terrorise the Leyton
rear guard, and this allowed Dickinson to open up
the second half account with a pinpoint header 2-0.
Shortly after a 20 yard Wright run saw him round the
keeper for number 3.
Substitutions were made Nesling,Lee Snowshill, and
Reilly replacing Hazle,Dickinson, and Wallace but the
pattern never altered and the final goal came from the
superb Mosely from a Hayzelden corner and ensure a
further three points. (report taken from Stuart
Marshall.
v Thame United away 1-2
The chance to clinch promotion came and went at Thame
as Blues went down to a late goal.
Both sides started tentatively, but on 42 minutes a Mitchell
cross after beating two defenders was not held by Hart and
Mitchell then closed in to hit in the rebound.
It took until 78 minutes for Hayzleden recieved the ball
then crossed to Wright who scored with a header from close
in.
Thame however were still battling for the three points,
and on 84 minutes,a Cort shot was stopped by hart in the
Grays goal, three minutes later it was Mitchell scored
his second goal to give Thame the points, and put the
Blues promotion party on hold.
v Braintree Town home 4-0
Two goals in each half gave Blues a competent 4-0 win
against Braintree Town and continued to push them
toward the promotion place, goals from Donavon,Hazle,
Wallace,and Wright completing the rout.
v Chertsey Town away 1-2
relegated Town completed a win double against Grays,
it took only 5 minutes for Town to open the scoring
when Canoville scored.from then it was a Grays side
in control Wright, Wallace and Hazelden all going
close before Wallace headed the equaliser.
Blues retained control in the second half, but the
Town winner came when Conoville was upended and
Murmagh put away the penalty on 52 minutes.
Blues continued to press forward, and toward the
closing stages Benstead in the Chertsey goal saved
well from Wallace,by pushing the ball against the
crossbar.
v Bromley away 2-1
The celebrations began as Blues ensured promotion with
an excellent 2-1 win at Bromley completing a double
over them.
Grays went into an early lead from Mosely, and in the
second half increased the lead with a Snowshill effort.
Despite a late Bromley penalty Grays fully deserved the
win, and promotion ensured, spare a thought for Keeper
Hart sent of for retaliation after the referee missed
the initial stamping by a Bromley player.
v Croydon home 3-4
The match between second placed Blues and champions
Croydon lived up to its expectations in the blistering
heat.Croydon went into an early lead in the first five
minutes, Blues Mosely equalised with a tremendous free
kick just outside the box,on 30 minutes but within five
minutes McDonnell put the Reds 2-1 up.
Shortly before the break McDonnell struck again after
another defensive error by Grays Athletic, and just
after the break struck to complete his trio, and put
Croydon 4-1 to the good.
Blues however came out battling and on 64 minutes
Snowshill pulled a goal back, and shortly later on 82
minutes a Wallace effort after clearing the reds rear
guard made it 3-4.
The equaliser was not to be, as the Blues brimming with
those players not given many chances couldn't over
turn the Croydon defence again.
