U. S. Family Searching for Australian Sister

Hello Readers:

This is a letter from my friend Sandra GRABOSKY who is trying to find a ½ sister that is an Australia girl. She would have been born about July 1942 or 1943 in a town named Townville, Queensland, Australia. Her father was Robert F. GRABOSKY (now deceased) and her mother is Dorothy _______. The child of this union is Dorothy GRABOSKY. She has the same name as her mother. Sandra would very much like to contact her sister that she recently learned about from family she has found while doing genealogical research.

If anyone recognizes people in these pictures or the names, please contact Sandra GRABOSKY at the email address listed below. Sandra is going to send me more photos. They will also be posted along with the ones we have posted here so far.

Subject: Going on a sister hunt

Hi Tina,

Here is what I know: My father, Robert F. GRABOSKY, was a member of the 32nd infantry in the U. S. Army, and served in the Philippines and New Guinea during WWII. He was wounded in the Philippines, and recuperated in Townsville, Queensland, Australia. Dad also mentioned to family in the States having spent time on a sheep station that was owned by Dorothy's family.

There he met and married Dorothy ________. In July of 1942 (or 43, not certain), they had a daughter, also named Dorothy. Both were also called "Dot". In early 1946 Robert returned to the US for what he said was a short time, but instead filed for divorce. As far as I can tell, he never communicated with them again.

He also cut all ties with his birth family. When I started researching genealogy, one of the most precious connections I made was with my cousins, whom I previously had had no contact with. It was they who filled me in on the missing sister, with as much as they knew.

Dad had two sisters (both now deceased, as is my father), Lillian and Irene. I am in possession of a copy of a letter from Dorothy to Lillian, dated 11-30-46. In this letter there is mention of some snapshots, and I think these are the same ones I am sending to you. There is a return address in this letter. It is:

8 Ralston St.
West End,
Townsville

Well, there you have it. Not much to go on, but it should be enough to eventually figure it all out. I'm going to try sending the pictures again, separate from this email. I know you got Baby Dot, so I will concentrate on the pics of dad and his wife. Maybe I'll try embedding one in an email, to see if that makes it through...

Thanks again, Tina.

If anyone knows anything about Dorothy Grabosky, please have her contact her sister Sandy Grabosky. Family rumor has it that Dorothy became an airline hostess, and may have visited her father in the United States. We assume she is now married and has her own family. Sandy only learned of her sister a couple of years ago. She was doing genealogical research, and found a cousin who told her about having a 1/2 sister in Australia. He provided her with these photos.

Photos are now posted at this site: GRABOSKY Photos
