The following is just a conversation between Chris and I (February 10, 2000) about current R&B discs that have just come out, there might be a few more like this coming real soon, but I was thinking anyone might be interested in this, check it out.

chrisjmu2: Who is your favorite artist right now
KStraw81: oh man . . .
KStraw81: I don't know . . I'll say this:
chrisjmu2: My choice is tough too
KStraw81: I love D'Angelo's new thang right now, it's different, I mean he could have gone further with his thing, but it's real good
chrisjmu2: tight
chrisjmu2: I like him too
KStraw81: yeah
chrisjmu2: I like Macy Gray a lot too
KStraw81: really?
chrisjmu2: Her album was very good
chrisjmu2: Have you heard her album
KStraw81: I'll have to listen to her cd again, cuz the first time I heard it, I wasn't feeling it . .
chrisjmu2: yeah
chrisjmu2: It took me like 4 or 5 listens before I actually started to get into it
chrisjmu2: But I tell you who I'm really feelin' ore than anyone
chrisjmu2: Is Kevon Edmonds
chrisjmu2: His album is very good
KStraw81: I'm sure it is
KStraw81: I'll have to check that out
KStraw81: he was the man in After 7
chrisjmu2: yeah man
chrisjmu2: Yep
KStraw81: they were a good group
chrisjmu2: Babyface's brother, one of them anyways
KStraw81: yeah
chrisjmu2: Yeah they were a good group
chrisjmu2: I remember Milestone
KStraw81: also Chico DeBarge's new one is real good
chrisjmu2: They should put on an album
chrisjmu2: I got to listen to Chico's
chrisjmu2: Have you heard Brian McKnight's
chrisjmu2: I haven't listened to it
KStraw81: I haven't heard it either
KStraw81: but I'll say this about Brian McKnight's thing
chrisjmu2: The singer that really reaches out and grabs my heart is Aaron Hall, I like him a lot
KStraw81: It's better and more confident than "Anytime", really . . . he uses more live instrumentation . . like "Back At One" the single was all him on the instruments, so I think that his is pretty good
KStraw81: Aaron Hall just busts his throat man, but he's got emotion
chrisjmu2: Yeah, he does have much emotion
chrisjmu2: Do you like him
chrisjmu2: He does busts his throat too :-)
chrisjmu2: His sound is unique
KStraw81: yeah it is
KStraw81: he models his voice after Charlie Wilson of the GAP Band
chrisjmu2: Yeah I definitely agree with that
chrisjmu2: the GAP band was great in their day
KStraw81: heard the boomerang soundtrack?
KStraw81: yeah they were
chrisjmu2: the Boomerang soundtrack, naaa, I haven't
chrisjmu2: Is it good
KStraw81: check it out, it's old but real good
chrisjmu2: cool
KStraw81: there's a song with Aaron Hall AND Charlie Wilson, it's smokin' man
chrisjmu2: I'll have too
chrisjmu2: For real
chrisjmu2: Yeah I'm definitely going to check that out
KStraw81: yeah, it's so cool, sometimes you can't tell the difference between the two of them
chrisjmu2: I just think Aaron doesn't do enough stuff
chrisjmu2: Your mother agreed with me
chrisjmu2: Cause she likes him a lot too
chrisjmu2: I remember Charlie Wilson was in the Snoop Dogg song a few years ago '96 I think
KStraw81: yeah Charlie toured with him too
KStraw81: during the Doggfather tour
chrisjmu2: yeah
KStraw81: have you heard the new Guy album?
chrisjmu2: Yeah, I really didn't like it that much
chrisjmu2: Its alright
chrisjmu2: Nothing like their first two albums
chrisjmu2: I think waiting a decade hurt them
KStraw81: not only that, it's just a new era I guess
chrisjmu2: Yeah
KStraw81: New Jack Swing is dead
chrisjmu2: Yep
KStraw81: Keith Sweat, gone!
chrisjmu2: lol :-)
KStraw81: Wrecks n Effect, gone
chrisjmu2: yeah
KStraw81: Heavy D, gone
chrisjmu2: Blackstreet too
KStraw81: Blackstreet gone
chrisjmu2: There last album I didn't like it at all
KStraw81: yeah, I didn't like it that much either
chrisjmu2: Personally I think Teddy is losing his touch
KStraw81: yeah he is
chrisjmu2: Its time for new person to emerge
KStraw81: Teddy Riley just needs to step back
chrisjmu2: Yeah he's been doing for about 13-15 yrs.
chrisjmu2: Let someone else carry the torch
chrisjmu2: Although Quincy Jones still has his touch after all this time
chrisjmu2: There's only one Q though :-)
KStraw81: yeah, that's the truth
KStraw81: although his record label, Qwest, man, they are terrible
chrisjmu2: You think, the both of us could help Teddy out lyrically
chrisjmu2: Yeah his record label is terrible
KStraw81: yeah right, if he LET us
chrisjmu2: He NEEDS US
chrisjmu2: :-)
KStraw81: yeah, Qwest is terrible with promotion, Tevin Campbell's cd could have done way better than it did if they just promoted it
chrisjmu2: I saw all the lyrics on the album, man they were awful just a fiasco
chrisjmu2: Yeah
chrisjmu2: You would think, between Teddy, Aaron and Damian
chrisjmu2: the lyrics would have been better
KStraw81: well the thing is
KStraw81: Teddy didn't really produce the cd, really
chrisjmu2: really
chrisjmu2: Who did
KStraw81: supposedly it's like producers under the care of Teddy Riley
chrisjmu2: Whoever did, they did a terrible job to me anyways
KStraw81: or he was the last producer listed for some of the songs
chrisjmu2: oh ok
KStraw81: like "Dancin'"
chrisjmu2: He needs to fire all those producers
chrisjmu2: Yeah
KStraw81: that was produced by like 4 producers
chrisjmu2: To tell the truth I wasn't feelin' that song either
KStraw81: last one listed was Teddy
chrisjmu2: Yeah
KStraw81: yeah it took me a while to like it
chrisjmu2: Dancin' may be the only semi-hit from the album
chrisjmu2: The rest of those songs are just downright pathetic
chrisjmu2: I'm just call it like I see it
KStraw81: ahh, we'll see, I'm sure there's a R&B hit ballad on there for sure
KStraw81: yeah, I heard "Love Online" was just dumb
chrisjmu2: Yes it was
chrisjmu2: The Future and the other album will never be topped
KStraw81: oh there's no way
KStraw81: have you heard Sisqo's new joint?
KStraw81: I like some of his songs surprisingly
chrisjmu2: Yeah, that's pretty hot
chrisjmu2: Yeah, someone has done a good job promoting him
KStraw81: not only that, but The Thong Song is being played everywhere
chrisjmu2: dru Hill is one of the best R&B acts out there
chrisjmu2: I know
chrisjmu2: I Got To Get It
KStraw81: yeah, modeled right after Jodeci too
chrisjmu2: yep
chrisjmu2: And you know what else I think
chrisjmu2: You know that group Imajin
chrisjmu2: They look just like Immature (ImX) now
KStraw81: yeah
chrisjmu2: Sing just like them and look like them
chrisjmu2: Everything
KStraw81: ImX should just call it quits
chrisjmu2: Yeah
chrisjmu2: Romeo wrote a couple of the songs on that album
chrisjmu2: That was a true fiasco
chrisjmu2: Stay the Night, I didn't like that
KStraw81: actually Romeo wrote like half or more of the songs
KStraw81: he could become a good producer seriously
KStraw81: let me ask you this
KStraw81: don't you think that Donell Jones' "U Know What's Up" is kind of 80's retro, like 80's R&B because whenever I hear it, it makes me think of that
chrisjmu2: Yeah, it has a good hint of the 80's in that song, it also took me a little time to like that song too
chrisjmu2: But yeah the rhythm is nice
chrisjmu2: 80's could comeback
KStraw81: I hope not
chrisjmu2: With the right beat mixing
chrisjmu2: Babyface still has his touch
KStraw81: there were so many 80's R&B songs that didn't crossover
chrisjmu2: Yeah that's very true
KStraw81: because the sound was so different from 80's Pop
chrisjmu2: Now, what I don't understand is all these boys group coming out (white boy) groups, I don't like any of them except N'Sync
KStraw81: really?
chrisjmu2: None of them can sing
chrisjmu2: to me anyway
chrisjmu2: The Backstreet Boys
KStraw81: I don't know, I like the Backstreet Boys . . . they can play instruments
KStraw81: all of them
chrisjmu2: I think are terrible, I only like 2 of their songs
chrisjmu2: Ok I like maybe 5 or 6 of their songs
chrisjmu2: Their ok
KStraw81: hehe
chrisjmu2: And N'Sync
KStraw81: yeah, All I Have To Give is a good one
chrisjmu2: I'll Never Break your Heart
chrisjmu2: I feel that one
chrisjmu2: Quit Playin' Games with My Heart
chrisjmu2: I really like N'Sync though for some reason, they're cool to me
KStraw81: really?
chrisjmu2: The rest of them can go to hell as far as I'm concerned
chrisjmu2: L.F.O
chrisjmu2: Five
chrisjmu2: Who else
chrisjmu2: 98 Degrees
KStraw81: Bye Bye Bye by N Sync isn't bad
chrisjmu2: Yeah
KStraw81: yeah, all the rest of them
chrisjmu2: I like that song
KStraw81: LFO is just terrible
chrisjmu2: Oh I know
KStraw81: LFO is produced by that guy TQ, remember him?
chrisjmu2: They're just debacles period
chrisjmu2: TQ the guy that did that song called "WestSide"
KStraw81: yupyup
chrisjmu2: Oh that song was terrible, I never liked that song
KStraw81: I hated it too
chrisjmu2: I really think me and you need to break into the music industry soon
