Review
Smash Brothers brings together everything that old-school gamers want...a great classic like Link kicking Pikachu like a football! Smash Brothers uses a fighting style unlike those in most games where you simply beat on someone until their life bar empties. In Smash Bros., the objective is to knock your foe into outer space, off a ledge, or down a bottomless pit. Rather simple on controls, only 3 attack buttons are present, A, B and R. Use A to use a standard attack, B will activate a special attack (i.e. Mario's Fireball, Pikachu's Thundershock, etc. and the R button is a throw. Attacks can be modified by holding a specific direction on the analog stick when attacking. A meter displays in percent the amount of damage all the players have received. The higher the percent is, the farther a player will fly when hit hard or thrown, making it easier to remove them from play.
An awesome party game, the 4-player mode must not be ignored. You may run out of player variety quickly, but fortunately the game contains four hidden players, including Captain Falcon of F-Zero fame, Purin, a rather pathetic Pocket Monster, Luigi, Mario's often forgotten brother, and Ness, for all you Earthbound junkies.
The game can be difficult for newer gamers, but adds frustration value for more talented players, making that much sweeter when you pummel that big hand at the end of the game. A must have for ANY gaming library, an import is available now, or you can wait until April of May for a US release. Don't worry, there's virtually no Japanese in the game, so those who choose to import the game won't have any problems.
