Week 1
pick the sixth (fat) string four times
pick down toward the floor at a right angle to the string
your pick should come to rest gently against the string below (fifth string)
don't slam your pick into the fifth string, contact in only enough to feel it
(do the same w/ the 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, and 1st strings)
Week 2
play last week's exercise w/ your EYES CLOSED
Week 3
play w/ alternate picking (down-up, down-up)
w/ your EYES OPEN looking at your pick
Week 4
play w/ alternate picking w/ your EYES CLOSED
Week 5
play picking (down-up, down-up)
w/ your EYES OPEN looking at your pick
SOME THINGS TO REMEMBER WHILE PRACTICING PICK CONTROL
-play slowly at the beginning
-play w/ a steady, even beat like the ticking of a clock
-increase teh speed only if you can maintain an even beat
-pay constant attention to how you hold the pick....check yourself often
-pick downward, gently coming to rest against the next string
