| This letter was found in an old family Bible. I will attempt to retype it as best I can. The only thing I will add is puncuation as there is almost none in the letter itself. I will not correct anything else. I will write you a few Lines. I Expect you will be surprised to hear from unknown kinfolks In Missouri. My Father's name is William Godbey his father's name was John. Father is 81-yrs old Still Living. Grandpa has been Dead over 20 yrs. now. 76 yrs. ago Grandpa Left Casey co., KY and moved to missouri pa was 5 yrs. old then and Grew up In Crawford co Mo and Lived here ever since. Grandpa Left 2 Brothers In Casey co KY one by the name of David and another by the name of Timothy 2 Sisters-Ann & Roda. Ann married-Rigney and Roda-an Edwards. I have often thought of writing and Longed to See the Land of my Fathers Birth but don't know that I Ever will but would e glad to and would Love to See all the kinfolks there. I suppose the old Generation Spoken of is gone Long ago but children and Grand children may still be Living So I may be writing now to one who is near Relation. as I have given names you probly can Deside Better as you are acquainted there. Well Cousin how is Land there can any one get Land and is times prosperous. We had an awful Drough her Last Summer No rain all summer and Raised nothing. I own a Little Farm 51 acres in Crawford co MO-well-I have been trying to plant all kinds of Fruit trees this is a great Fruit Country. My father Said there were plenty of Sweet Chestnuts there they Don't grow here only as planted So I thought I would get some of my kinfolks there to Send me a few chestnuts also-1 or 2 Beech nut trees. they could be mailed 1-to 2 1/2 ft trees by parcal post 6-or 8- Little Chestnut or would be Glad to have a few of the nuts to that would germinate. I could plant them as what nuts we buy here won't come up as they have been roasted however this should be Done before Sap start up. Well I will be glad to hear very soon and maby you can give Some Information as to Relatives(?) out there. Hope this will find all well. I will Close. Will write more next time. Yours Truely G.W.
