the important verse to remember is 2John1v6-so go read it!
Because God is love, its in loving that we're most like Him! From God's perspective life without love is worthless. Paul writes:'..No matter what I say..I'm bankrupt without love' (1Cor13v3 TM) And love cannot be learned in isolation. You have to be with people- irritating, imperfect, frustrating people. Sometimes we act as if relationships are something to be squeezed into our schedule. We talk about finding time for our children or making time for those who count. Not so! Jesus summarised matters most in 2 powerful statements: 'Love God and love people' (Matt22v37-40)para.
Relationships, not things are what really matter. So why do we keep allowing our relationships to get the wrong end of the stick? Because our own lives become overloaded, we start skimming relationally, cutting back on the time, energy and attention, thjat loving relationships require. We become too preoccupied with making a living, paying our bills and accomplishing our goals, as if they were the point of life. They're not! The point of life is learning to love-God and people. Life minus love equals zero! Mother Teresa said, 'Its not what you do, but how much love you put into it that matters.'
Love is the secret of a lasting heritage. In our final moments, we all realise that relationships are what life is all about. Wisdom is learning that truth sooner, rather than later. Don't wait till its too late to figure that out!
Before you get up in the morning and rush into your day, pause and pray: 'Lord, don't let me waste this day. Whether or not I get anything else done, help me to spend today loving you and loving others- because thats what your word says life is all about.'
The more time you give to somene, the more you reveal their importance to you. Its not enough to tell them they're important; you must prove it by investing time in them. The best way to spell love is T-I-M-E! The essence of love is not what you think or feel about others; no, its about how much you give of yourself to them.
Men, in particular struggle with this. They say, 'I don't understand my wife and kids. I provide everything they need. What more could they want?' They want- you! They want focused attention! Love concentrates so intently on another that it forgest itself. That kind of attention says, "value you enough to give you my most precious asset-my time."
Why is now the best time to express your love? Because you don't know how long you'll have the opportunity to do so. Circumstances change. People die. Children grwo up. You've no guarantee of tomorrow. If you want to express your love, you'd better do it now.
Who do you need to start spending more time with? What do you need to cut out of your schedule to make that possible?
The best use of life is love...
The best expression of love is time...
The best time to love is- NOW!
