It is a custom in many countries to buy a person a gift or present when you are invited to their birthday party.
Imagine that you have been invited to your friend Rob's birthday party.
You go to the shops and buy him a present, thinking about what sort of gift he would like best.
You buy a card, and on the inside you write,'To Rob, Love ______'
You arrive at the party with the present under your arm, and then when he greets you at the door, you hold it out to him.
And yet, the present, although intended for him, and bought with him in mind, and although his name is written on the card, the present is not actually his, until he reaches out and takes it from you.

We all love receiving presents and we feel special when someone we know buys a present especially for us.
God has a present for us. It has our name on it, he chose it with us in mind, and he gave everything so that we could have it. And yet, so many people don't reach out and take it. And what is this gift? The chance to become a child of God.

WOW!

God has a plan for all our lives. The Old Testament prophet Jerimiah tells us of his wonderful plan;
"'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.'" (Jerimiah 29v11)

Will you reach out today and accept this amazing gift, or will you simply turn away?

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose"
Romans 8 v 28.

So what happens when we accept the gift God has for us?

We know that we can be transformed into something new! It's not a physical change, but a spiritual one. God will work through you and involve you in his plan! He will use you to bring about his glory, and to witness to others here on earth. It is a daunting task, but the most amazing thing is this - he is with us every step of the way, and he will never leave us. He will never let us face anything we cannot cope with! There will be difficult times and there will be hard times, but let me, finally, share something with you that my friend once told me about becoming a Christian;
"LIFE BEGINS HERE! WOOHOO! God is awesome and mighty and He will be your best friend ever!!!"
I have to admit initially I was a bit unsure; things were tough for me at the beginning and I found things a real struggle. But honestly, being a Christian is just the best thing ever, and what my friend said is so true - He WILL be your best friend - forever!!
