Early one morning, a man was walking slowly along the beachfront. A violent storm the previous night had washed up many hundreds of starfish onto the shore, and as the man walked along he picked up the starfish, one by one, and threw them back into the sea.
A few mintues later, his friend meets him and asks, "Why do you bother trying to throw these starfish back into the sea? There are many hundreds of them, you won't make a difference."
The man said nothing, but bent over, and picked up another starfish, throwing it back into the sea. As he did so, he turned to address his friend - "I made a difference to that one." |
