Back in Bible times, there are many examples where God physically speaks to people on earth. (e.g. Matthew 3 v 17) However nowadays people seem to think God no longer speaks to us anymore. But I beg to differ. I believe God still speaks to us, tha we just become so wound up with our own lives that we don't stop to listen. And something that happened to me a while back confirmed my belief.
I had just started my GCSE mock exams in school. The first few days were very stressful with 2, sometimes three, exams each day. I began to feel as if I couldnt cope with the pressure being piled on by teachers, parents, peers and so on. I prayed about it, but nothing seemed to happen.
The following day I received a text message through my mobile phone. There was no number, it simply said new message. Curious, I opened it, and it was a bible verse. It read For I can do everything with the help of Christ who gives me the strength I need. Phil. 4 v 13.
This really made me stop and think. I re-read it, and at that moment, everything seemed ok. My exams continued for another week and a half, but I was able to survive them without becoming totally stressed out.
This incident really reminded me of how God does speak to us in the 21st Century. Maybe it is not always physically having a conversation with us, but perhaps it is through other people, the bible, and maybe perhaps even text messages.
God speaks, but are you ready to listen?
