Band Name
Davesnothere
Who are you?
"Joel Neill (JN) , 16, vocals
John Hughes (Johnny/Chucky Finster), 25, Bass
Mark Wharry (Fingers Mcgraw), Guitar
Neil Woodside (Nelly), 15, Drums"
Where are you from?
"We're all from Larne (Northern Ireland), apart from Mark, who is from Germany. "
How did you meet?
"At the start we had an entirely different line up. Our guitarist Mark moved from Lisburn to Larne when he was 11 or 12, and he met our bassist Johnny through the Boys Brigade. He also met the other two original members through church (one of them was his cousin). Then when that line up decided to call it a day Mark asked his school friend Nelly to drum. A year later they met and converted me [Joel] , then asked me to sing, and thats the way it's been for a while now."
And how long have you been together as a band?
"Roughly two years. We cant pinpoint a date really...sorry!"
What has been the biggest highlight for you as a band so far?
"There have been a whole bunch of really cool things that have happened to us since the start of Daves Not Here, both on stage and off. I think the biggest highlight for all of us is the fact that we can see God working in us, we get to do what we love for who we love. Another awesome thing is the fact that mot people seem to enjoy our shows and kids come to have a good time and praise God, it's an awesome feeling."
Who inspires you both musically and spiritually?
"Well obviously Jesus Christ comes first in the band, and the day that changes is the day we split up. Musically we all have individual tastes and influences. But we all share a love for The Ramones, and our sound is very old skool punk revival, like Rancid...exept a little more raw."
Why do you do what you do?
"A lot of people today look upon Christianity as something that is out dated, uncool and for old people and geeks. This was one of the main motives for starting DNH. We all have personal relationships with Jesus Christ and have accepted him as our saviour. We set out to break down a lot of the old stereotypes and show the world that Jesus loves us all, as we are. We don't have to change the way we look to be accepted by God.
Without getting to deep we just want to show everyone that you can be a Christian and still have fun. You can dress in the weirdest clothes you can find and listen to any kind of music, it doesn't matter one bit to God. We're here to let you know that Christianity isnt the end of the good times you have had in your life, its only the beginning."
What others say about them -
" "Next up was Daves Not Here. I had heard of these guys before but never heard them, so i was looking forward to it. Although they did throw us out during their sound check (boo!) Anyway, when we did get back in it was well worth the wait. Wow!! No prisoners were taken, this was good old school type punk, good fun and well played. They certainly seemed to be enjoying themselves and so did the crowd. I was certainly impressed by the stand they took for God, by the way, is that bass player from The Rugrats?"
