In Time Cancer For Harry
©2007 by Matthew Abuelo
When fate crystallizes in the brain
to appear out of place like a finger print on a x-ray
or the smile on dirty faced orphans.
The life you have trusted for so long turns back on you with range that reaches deeper
than the fingers of angels that touch
in time cancer
the diseased pathways of the flesh
repetition of rabid cells that come on like images in the factory.
What walk will you take to the end of the wilderness
where the garbage heaps of your creation finally breaks in two.
At the end of the road is silence like a vanguard French film
there is no turning back
with eternity at our finger tips.
And those that cared so deeply for you are left to look on at what once was
that shatters into space and fades in to a supernova of the collapse of the heart.
At the final station all distances fade and wings form on those memories that disappear far quicker than the pain of trying to remember.
But this is when the defeat of time caresses you between the synapses.
When the light that glows bright inside connects with the stars
your genius goes off in a flash
and what you leave behind is burned into our memories like photograph.
I wish I wrote to you more often
You know?
