Nintendo have done it again. After inventing the karting genre on the SNES with Super Mario Kart and then following it up with the greatest multiplayer racing game of all time, Mario Kart 64 on the N64, they've decided to bring this brilliant series to the Game Boy Advance.
Mario Kart Advance plays like a cross between the SNES and versions. The handling is straight from the SNES, with powerslides
a-plenty and no analogue control. The rest of the game, on the other hand is based on the N64 game. The power-ups are identical to those in MarioKart 64, and the character line-up is the same. The tracks shown here like the the Luigi Raceway track from MK64, and the Ghost House (a.k.a. Banshee Boardwalk) tracks.
Mario Kart's great strength was always in its multiplayer, which has
thankfully been transferred perfectly to the GBA. Want some good news?
You can link-up up to four GBAs for multiplayer antics and everyone gets their own full screen. Want some even better news? You only need one cartridge between you! That's right! There's no more of this "Oh, sorry, I can't play link-up because I don't have the game" rubbish. If one of you has the game, anyone with a Game Boy Advance will be able to play with you.
It will all look great, too. Just take a gander at those screenshots! Mario Kart Advance will be one to watch out for.
Expect it to shift several million GBAs on its own next July! |
