When ChuChu Rocket was released on the Dreamcast last year, no one thought that a bunch of cute looking mice and a space rocket could have such an impact. They could not have been more wrong, however, as the helped greatly towards a successful launch of SegaNet with its online multiplayer capabilities.
The game is basically a puzzler. The object is to load up as many of the ChuChu mice ("Chu" is Japanese for the noise a mouse makes, as in Pikachu - but we won't go into that) as you possibly can into your colour-coded rocket to escape from the KapuKapu cats and complete the level. This is achieved by moving your cursor around the screen and placing arrows to guide them along their way. The skill comes from thinking ahead of the game and timing your arrow drops to make the best of the situation, and there's the added factor of the three other players all competing for those very same mice. It's extremely simple, extremely fast, and one of the best multiplayer titles ever created.
The question is, what about the online capabilities? I and a number of other people would be extremely surprised if Sega didn't make use of the Mobile Adapter for online play, but whether we get this option all depends on what Nintendo of America have up their sleeve for the US launch. Bluetooth, maybe? Who knows? The main thing is that ChuChu Rocket will be released at launch in Japan and before the end of the year (hopefully) elsewhere, and four player link-up fun is pretty much a guarantee!
