HIDDEN IN A FOREST
As the sun rose on this beautiful day I began my walk in the forest among the trees. They seem to have a certain mystique about them. Too often we take them for granted, we abuse and desecrate them for their numerical value. We never take time to realize and absorb the things they have to offer.
The trees are filled with life's beauty and hidden stories of yesteryear. If we take the time to listen, they will tell us their tales, perhaps not in words, but their stories will be told. The rings inside a tree tell us the weather of years past, the dry seasons or the rainy ones. As we look at the branches we can tell if it was a good growing year and how much it grew by the distance between buds. One only has to look and it will be revealed as if it were magic.
They also teach us about survival. As we look at the taller trees reaching for the sky. They block the sun from the ones that are less strong, keeping them contained and controlled. Survival of the fittest. Yet, they do not kill the smaller trees but learn how to survive together in harmony. In the fall trees drop their leaves only to become fertilizing nourishment from which all benefit. Each tree is a separate entity yet each depends on the others for their existence.
Looking up in the tree we see nests, where bird live in peaceful coexistence with the tree. The birds use the trees for shelter and in turn eat insects that would cause harm to their host. The squirrels use the tree not only for their homes, but as their super highway through the dense forest, jumping from branch to branch and tree to tree. The turkey finds a place to roost as he sleeps high above the ground, safe from all the danger that exists below. The Hawk perches on a high limb stalking and waiting for his prey. A butterfly use the tree as a place to rest her wings after a long flight to and from the meadow. The tree playing an important part in all their lives.
We smell the sap as it runs to the newly formed bud and it lightens our hearts with thoughts of spring. Or perhaps on a hot summer day we sit under the trees fine plumage, out of the sun in the cool shade they has to offer. When we walk by in the fall and look up in awe, the tree displays her beautiful colors for all to enjoy. Perhaps in the winter as she stands bare and cold, we look and wonder what beauty she will bring to us in the coming year. This gives us the ability and the patience to make it 'till spring.
Only, too often these things are taken for granted. The next time you take a walk, find the time to learn from what is around you. The simplest things can bring you peace of mind and be the best teachers. Open your heart and mind to all God's creations and He will reveal his plan.

THE RIVER
Today as I was walking by the river, it was amazing what the waters revealed to me. A river is much like life. When you stand in one place things pass in and out of your view in a short period of time. If what is floating by is something we want, we must be fast to grasp it before it passes. If we miss it we expect the tides of life to bring it back our way again. Perhaps the next time it passes it may be just out of our reach.
As in Life there are times when the water is choppy and rough and is hard to navigate and causes disorientation and confusion, tossing us up and down, to and fro without direction. Although it not as often there are times when it is smooth and comforting, not a ripple to be found. We tend to have a clear view of our directions and problems and all seems to be going well until the tide changes or the wind picks up and the water becomes turbulent, once more. Some of us have learned to how to navigate the rough times and endure until the calm returns. Others become victims, and are swallowed up by confusion because they lack the determination to survive. Sometimes the tides of life are too high and cause us great discomfort or they can be low and not meet our needs.
Much like life, the period of ebb tide is very short and the tide changes from day to day, hour to hour, minute to minute and even second to second. Nothing is ever stable and it is continually changing. We become flustered and confused because we have no control over the waters. Perhaps the tides have washed parts of our lives or memories away. Knowing that we can never get them back we become frustrated.
If we want to take control of our lives and preserve what memories we have, we must enter the waters of life and learn to go with the flow. We can never change the tides but we can regulate how fast the water pass us by. The Lord has put all these things in our lives so that we may learn from them. The walk of life is a very complicated one but if we learn as we go it make life easier.
Maybe this is the reason our bodies are made of 98% water.
