THE RAINBOW
As I awoke this morning, after a long and stormy night, there seemed to be a strange atmosphere around me. Feeling lonely and lost in my thoughts, depressed from the lightning and loud thunder that had kept me awake most of the night, my mind seem confused. I knew that we needed the rain but could not understand the turbulence that had accompanied it. What possible purpose could it have served?
Although the storm had been violent and disrupting there was now a peaceful feeling in the air. There was something different about this morning. I couldn't put my finger on it, but it was there. I just knew it and could feel it. It was a rainbow, with such beautiful colors, red, orange, yellow, green, and blue with just a touch of violet to accent the morning sky.
As always at this time of the day I opened my front door, to allow the morning sun to fill my home with its light and warmth. I stood there looking out the door and across the river, that had brought me such great comfort many times before. To my surprise I saw a vivid assortment of colors draped across the morning sky. They were simply beautiful and breathtaking in all their brightness.
The colors were so radiant and pure as if they were composed with a feeling of love and caring. I knew at once it was a gift that was put there just for me this day by my Lord.
While taking it all in I began to think of an old story about a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. It was at that very moment I realized, it was not the mythical treasure at the end that was important, but the true treasure at the beginning or the place of origin.
The Lord had put it there just for me, to brighten my day and make me forget any discomfort it may have caused. It was His way of reminding me of a time long ago when He promised His children that He would never consume the earth by water again. The rainbow was just His way of letting me know just how important His promise to His children really was and that it still stands.
What a beautiful way for Him to remind us, by using a rainbow.
